My heart goes out to you and your family. You sound like a wonderful, caring person. I too am middle aged and have grown children and can only imagine your pain and helplessness. I hope you make it there for Thanksgiving since it will be a good time for you all to be thankful for the love you share among yourselves.
i thought i would share an experience from the congregation i was assosiated with in utah.
about 17 years ago i caught my 15-year-old stepson molesting my 3-year-old daughter.
of course, the first action taken was to call the elders.
slowly you will be more confident that you are right in leaving and knowing that they are a bunch of ass holes. You will one day not doubt what you feel to be right.
Discerning they were/are assholes was not a slow process by any means, kilroy. I have no doubts about my decision to leave. My problem is similar to this example people give:
When someone really irritates you and you go off and have a really bad day because of it, you need to think about the person who ruined your day....they never gave it another thought so why should you let it ruin your day when they were the asshole!
I understand this theory and that's what frustrates me, when I keep letting them ruin my day when they continue along their merry way destroying lives. I know I have to get over this and often ask myself why I keep hanging onto it since it hurts me and does nothing to them. I am going to work through it though!
i know i did.. we had a young fellow who used to live at my grandmother's place.
in may ways he was like family.
after he moved out of my grandmother's place i saw him frequently.
My oldest daughter had been a regular pioneer when she was 17 but was removed when she allowed an older MS touch her breast. Like my other children, she beat feet out the door at 18 and moved out of state. This girl had never even been on a real date. She met someone, got pregnant, turned herself in to the local 'authorities' and was disfellowshipped. Funny.....the PO's 17-year-old daughter living at hom was in the same condition, but she was a 'little slow' mentally so it was 'different'.
My husband said I was to have nothing to do with her in order to force her to see the error of her ways and work her way back. I can't believe I went along and actually missed the birth of my first grandchild. A few months after giving birth, she did work towards reinstatement so I was allowed to see her while she was 'working on things'. Like many others, she came back to have her family back. She went from a large family to nothing in a short period of time, since her younger siblings could not speak to her either.
It makes me sick to my stomach even now, 12 years later, to think I could do such a thing to her. I won't be bitter, I won't be bitter, I won't........
it has to be a sense of humor.

i believe that most jws are deep down inside angry over the fact that they went along with the status quo and the majority just to be accepted.
some witnesses would like to have a tattoo, a mustache, a shaved head, a beard, a new red sportscar, etc.
but they don't because they would be viewed as "immature".

That's right....I forgot the School Brochure did quite a good job in compartmentalizing everything, didn't it? Probably because our kids took the brunt of things when it came to standing up for JW beliefs.

As a mother of many children, I ask you to please think long and hard about what you are doing to your childrens' lives. As you are questioning things, you may soon realize that there are many things the WTS is wrong in promoting; many of which have long-lasting detrimental affects.
All my children were raised by very strict JW standards and I can't honestly say I always felt good about it, but felt it was my duty to obey even if I didn't fully understand. Now my children are grown and raising their children with holidays...maybe even going more overboard than necessary because they want them to experience things they so missed. I feel very privileged to now be able to share these celebrations with my grown children and grandkids, but I'm afraid I will always feel remorse for making them stand up for things that I never had to experience. I am ever grateful that they don't resent my mistakes.
Please, please keep looking and if you don't feel the need to question things for yourself, do it for your children.

a male can have one but he wouldnt get any privilidges and would probably be labeled the black sheep.
The PO in our congregation in Utah had a beard. Why? He had a skin condition is what we were told. WTF?

i have been sifting for hours and even though i've found lots of great information, i can't find what i am looking for.. motivated by the hurricane tragedies, i decided to become a red cross volunteer on a local level.
i had my first training on saturday and came away feeling very good about my decision.
To be on the safe side, the non-JW spouse should have a healthcare proxy in place that says that they want a blood transfusion and then their JW spouse could authorize in accordance with their wishes.
Is this something one would carry like the JW blood card?
