Yep, it's a popular saying with witness-heads. My mom likes to tell me how some CO's wife told her that she thinks only 1 in 5 witnesses are actually good individuals. I asked her how she thinks those numbers are any better than the rest of the world?!?! Actually, I think better than 1 in 5 people are good. It's just a stupid trick to make a person think they are still doing the right thing, in the face of countless facts that say they aren't.

Did anyone hear the expression- If it was`nt for Jehovah I wouldnt stick it
by jambon1 inwhere i live it`s common to hear the brothers/sisters say 'if it wasnt for jehovah i wouldnt be here' - refering to the fact that they are fed up, sick of everyone and they are only staying in the truth for jehovah.
it is normally uttered after a fight in the cong or when someone has done something bad/brought bad publicity etc.
naturally, it is said with a dgree of head shaking.. does this not contradict the idea of a worldwide, supportive & loving brotherhood exsisting among jw's?.

Is (are) sly and the family stone a jw? if so...
by orbison11 inthis just in on tonight's grammy's ,,,,,,
but perhaps the loudest applause -- and certainly the most amazement -- greeted sly stone as he joined a tribute to his music in the middle of "i want to take you higher.".
the onetime leader of sly and the family stone, who has avoided the public eye for many years, appeared with a bleached-blond mohawk haircut, not to mention a metallic greatcoat, sunglasses and a giant "sly" belt buckle.

Prophecor is right. Larry Graham is a witness, and he influenced Prince. I am a bass player myself, and I used to brag about the fact that Larry was a witness. The awake article is about Larry Graham.

Anybody still buy vinyl records?
by DanTheMan ini haven't had a turntable in years, and i'm starting to feel all romantic about getting one and restricting my new music purchases to vinyl exclusively.. some reasons why:.
longevity - cd's get to be pretty skippy after about 10 years, and after 15 or 20, they are pretty much useless.
a vinyl record can last 100 years if taken proper care of.

I have a big collection of vinyl. I have to admit I never listen to them, I just look at them for nostalgic value. My dad will lecture you all day about the virtues of vinyl. He even has 78s of Rutherford, and I mean like 20 or 30 of them. He has an unbelievable jukebox filled with 45s that he fires up when we go to visit.

Magic moment
by Phil infor all the persons that have been lured into the jw organization i was wondering if there is a magic age level or maximum exposure time where such a person comes to the realization that what he /she has been filled with information and doctrine that only hurts families and is the major cause of their breakup with their families.
i have seen some people that have come to the realizationaround the age of 40. would this be the age of realization?
is it something else?

29 for me. I was on a cruise. I was sitting in a lounge by a huge glass window holding a martini. I was just watching the water go by and letting my mind drift. All of a sudden, the world seemed so much bigger and more complicated than I had ever been told. I shook my head and laughed inside at the notion of one tiny group of people thinking they have it all figured out.

The wonderful answer: WOJ
by mustang inyep, waiting on jehovah.
this statement has really good potential as a "catch-all" phrase.
it is a useful palliative and "anti-inflammatory"; it's general but agreeable vagueness is magnificent.

pmj, I suggest you read and reread AuldSoul's post. It contains more wisdom than you have probably gotten your entire stint as a witness.

About Tattoos...
by Mastodon insomebody was asking me about tattoos and what the biblical rules about them are.
i also remember that a magazine (an awake!?
) mentioned that getting a tattoo is a matter of conscience.

I think tattoos are sort of like the beard thing for witnesses, except even worse.
I've been thinking about getting a tattoo of the cross and crown symbol that Russell used at the beginning. Sarcastic, yes?

has your language changed since you left?
by fullofdoubtnow ini know mine has.
i went back to my flat earlier this afternoon to pick some things up, i am moving out of there slowly, and was carrying a heavy box out to my car when i stumbled and dropped it on my foot.
it wasn't too painful, thankfully, but i came out with a stream of expletives, most of them beginning with f. when i was a jw, even thinking those words would have filled me with shame.

Dr. Phil?
It's also nothing to be ashamed of in certain company, imo. I wouldn't curse around children or women, but I'm old fashioned. When I'm with a group of men, I don't see anything wrong with it, and I never did.

2 Samuel chapter 24 - Don't mess with God!
by nicolaou ingod tells david, "don't count my people".
david counts the people.. god tells david, "'cos you were naughty you gotta pick your punishment, will it be 'a' 7 years of famine, 'b' 3 months of national humiliation or 'c' 3 days of pestilence?
choose davey boy!".

Do all those seeking truth arrive at the same conclusions as you, Raphael? That is truly jw style arrogance if I've ever seen it.

I guarantee you Kirk Cameron gets more "witnessing" done through his corny tv show on the religious channel than the watchtower does. If someone shows you proof in numbers that another group is doing more "witnessing", would you switch your loyalty to that group?
