I ran into a sister from my former congregation today, not seen her for a few months, and expected her to shun me like most of them do. However, she made a point of talking to me,( and she knows I da'd recently). After the usual how are you stuff she told me that even though i'm da'd she still considers me a friend and won't ignore me whatever the rest of them do, and whatever the elders say about it. She remembers some of the rough treatment I endured at the hands of the elders before I left, and I commented that she might be putting herself in the firing line by having anything to do with me, but she didn't seem at all concerned, she's always been uncomfortable with the concept of shunning ex jws anyway. We chatted for maybe 15 minutes and ended up exchanging phone numbers (she asked for mine first), and I gave a pretty good unwitness. I got the impression that maybe she isn't as solid in the "troof" as she used to be and is even secretly envious of me now I'm free. I told her about this Forum, and she said she'd take a look, she might even be looking now for all I know. Another one on the way out of the borg maybe?

Another "truth" alternative
by Justin inever hear of harold camping, president of family radio?
he's an elderly gentleman who periodically sets dates for the end of the world and pleads with people to leave their churches, claiming that the "harvest" has now commenced.
sound familiar?

Not for me thanks, 13 years of dubdom makes me kinda wary about any religion

Share a Story...
by misspeaches ini really enjoy reading the stories/experiences you guys all post on here from your jdub days..... the funny, ridiculous, ironic ones make me laugh but reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. the hurtful, sad, mean ones make me hurt as well but again - reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. the scandals that go on - well same again - they reinforce in my mind that i've done the right thing by leaving that organisation.. i do appreciate the time you all take in writing down your stories and will never tire of reading them.
so if you have a story you haven't relayed here before because it is didn't seem relevant to a thread i would love to read it!.
cheers - miss peaches

I could probably write a book on all the bad times i had in the borg, especially during the last couple of years before i stopped going to the kh, but i'll just share this one for now: It happened about 3 or 4 months before i stopped attending.....I had a talk to deliver, can't remember the topic but it was a number 4, but went down with a really bad cold on the day and could hardly speak, so i asked a brother who lived nearby to take it for me, and he agreed, so he called round to get the notes i'd made in preparation. Out of courtesy i phoned the school overseer and let him know what i'd done, for which he thanked me, which probably p**d him off because he hated me, and the feeling was mutual. Next night, the overseer, the po and the bro who had covered the talk came round and accused me of not turning up for my assignment and not even notifying them! They both denied ever receiving a phone call from me, and claimed it was just another example of how i was trying to undermine the elders and cause disruption in the kh. Later on, the bro phoned me and admitted that he had been pressured to lie by the elders, they wanted me to go worship somewhere else because i was a constant thorn in their flesh, probably because i stood up to them. I f they could have dfd me, i think they would have. Oddly enough, i was thinking of leaving at the time, the only reason i stayed for another few months was to annoy them once i knew how much they wanted me to go, so in a way what they did delayed my escape for a while. I did leave not long after, and they didn't get too many opportunities to have further digs at me, just a couple, which i'll relate some other time

I have'nt been to a kh for a few years now, but I am reliably informed that meeting attendance has dropped considerably, no surprise there, but the wallpaper has, the paintwork has, but the elders attitude remains the same

Have you ever got up in the middle of a meeting, bored, and just left?
by JH ini did it many times.
first of all, let me say that just about every meeting i attended was a sacrifice for me.
i was a follower, not more.

the last year i used to go half way through all the time, it gave the elders less opportunity to hassle me, then one night the po asked why i bothered coming at all. i said i couldn't think of a reason, and left before the meeting started, and never went again, best favour he ever did for me
