I'm not sure who owns the name now, but Hasbro didn't come up with it.
No, that's right, they didn't. It was originally trademarked in 1891, by the Kennard Novelty Company.
i've had several expereiences with ouija boards, some interesting, some disturbing, and as skeptical as i try to be i have to admit i have seen it personally say things and do things that i can not logically explain.
some say its your sub-conscience, some say its spirits, others say its demons.
i am just wondering if any of you have had experiences with the ouija board, what they were, and what you believe about them, supernatural or just another simple amusement?

the physics of hell
this is an actual question on a university of washington physics mid-term exam:
"is hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
It is humorous, but it is not as you say "an actual question on a University of Washington physics mid-term exam." This piece of modern urban folklore has been around for some time. It's origins go back to at least 1960.

Oh I agree that even the whole board being a portal to the spirit world for a mere 12 bucks seem ridiculous, but still maybe their is something to it, pherhaps a energy rather so much a spirit. I don't know Ive always wondered myself. I don't think that it having some energy force need go against the realms of science, look at magnets. At one time people thought magnetism was some form of witchcraft but later we find out its just one of the laws of science.
At 12 bucks a pop, scientists should buy up big in Ouija™ wares and harness the energy of these heavenly hereafter harbingers, to develop ghost-driven energy generators.
Is anyone there? Knock once for 'yes' and twice for 'no'.
one of the pharoahs that is mentioned in the bible is hophra (aka apries, aka ha'a'ibra wahibra).. jeremiah 44:30 says: "this is what jehovah has said: here i am giving phar aoh hoph ra, the king of egypt, into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those seeking for his soul, just as i have given zedeki ah the king of judah into the hand of nebuchadrez zar the king of babylon, his enemy and the one seeking for his soul.").
the closest the watchtower society gets to attempting to assign any years to hophra is in a questions from readers article in the 1 october 1970, watchtower (incidentally on page 607 of the bound volume).
it states: "egypt made one last attempt to remain a power in asia.
That's your position because you doubt the conspiracy. But IF the Persians revised their records, which meant expanding the reign of Darius I from 6 years to 36 years, they would have been negligent if they didn't try to create some business references or anything else that would make the 30 extra years seem more authentic. Think in terms of the CIA today. It's the organization that tells the best and most sophisticated LIES, fakes documents and whatever. But why? Because countries have enemies and they have to maintain "national security." Think in terms of YOU being a high official in charge of records during the time and what you would think up to prevent the Greeks from easily discovering that you had lied about Xerxes dying and had extended the reign of Darius by 30 years. What would YOU do? Also, how smart do you think at least one person was back then? Given a consultation of several wise persons to make this conspiracy work as far as records, what do you think they would come up with between them? What would be easy and what would be difficult? Making up clay tablets is super easy. Building buidings and monuments to represent the entire 36 years of Darius' works is another story. Sure, the clay tablets are there, but where are the buildings to go with them? That's what I'm asking.
Based on what you've said, there is no point stating any sources because you have the option of saying they were 'faked' as part of the 'conspiracy'. Why would the Persians bother to lie in the first place, and then make up a big cover-up? The specific motive seems unclear.
I don't have time to dig up references for this, and you've said you know all about them anyway so there is no point.
prior to my resignation from the jws, i heard a taped talk by bro.

and making his way "up the ladder", eventually finishing up as a district overseer.
Further, the body of elders that recommends a new elder prays for the guidance of holy spirit to discern whether he meets the qualifications or not.
What tangible difference does this actually make? It seems as though they would already have decided by that point anyway. It's relatively black-and-white for them to think of a person they know and tick of the qualities in the scriptures that the person has (appears to have).
Have there been any instances of the elders discussing a possibly appointee, deciding he seems to fit the criteria, and then after praying about it, decide they shouldn't appoint him?
i have listed all the books i found at the library that mention 586/87 as the fall of jerusalem.
i was also able to link to all of them (except the first one listed) on amazon.com!
many are out of print or unavailable as new books but you can buy almost all of them used on amazon.com ... some are only $10-12 each!
Thanks for the link Alleymom. I had a massive sense of deja vu when I started reading. Scholar just rehashes the same wrong information over and over again.
Scholar, at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/54983/818192/post.ashx#818192 when requested to provide "a chart of Babylonian king and their reigns with their respective dates" you replied with a request to "post the reigns and dates for the Divided Monarchy for Judah and Israel."
As we both know, I have answered that 'challenge', so I will be expecting your detailed chart of Babylonian kings any minute now. On that chart, please also indicate the years of reign of Hophra and Amasis as well. And obviously because you have such a definitive chronology to rely on, there will be no need for big gaps with question marks next to them. If you state any reigns that are not accepted in standard chronology, I would like to see your source material. Thanks.

Ouija™ boards are definitely real (i.e. the boards with numbers and letters on them exist). Ouija™ is a trademark of Hasbro Corporation (the toy company) and literally means "yes [French] yes [German]".
I think the fact that the name is a trademark of a toy manufacturer indicates their veracity.
i know that jws view df'd ones as the walking dead, but how do they view non-jws?
i thought that they considered them walking dead, too, but my mom says no.
can anyone clear that up for me?
*** w52 11/15 p. 703 Questions from Readers *** The law of the land and God’s law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship.
This amounts to saying:
"Those pesky 'law of the land and God's law through Christ' won't let us kill our own family members. Bring back the good ol' stonings."
i have made a real effort in not trying to make fun of stereotypical jw idiosyncrasies any more but this just cracked me up.

here you have one of the loyal jws trying to offer a few items, make them specific to the jw lifestyle, and also make a few bucks.

we've already got some "most hated" threads on here, like "most hated bible verse" or "most hated meeting", don't know if there's another thread on metaphors/analogies.
one of the most used analogies used is the "jehovah's like a loving father holding your hand and leading you, you can trust him like a little child trusts his father".
i don't know how often i heard that one.
The 'sheep' anology is important for the Witnesses because it's much easier to have the wool pulled over your eyes that way.
