I feel that the problem lies with the Watchtower Society's interpretation of scripture. They always apply everything to modern times like the wheat and the weeds illustration. The fact is, we are still living in that time period. It is just like the dark ages. First Corinthians, 13:12 - For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known. John 17:3 is what it is all about. Everyone can do that. The details we can try to understand and perhaps be right about many of them, but to make big claims about knowing the truth about the details, is presumptuous. Their are true Christians even in the Watchtower. Not all, but some. The separation of the wheat and the weeds is future.

EXACTLY Why JW's Are NOT Christian
by Perry ina lot of people, ex-jws, believers and unbelievers alike, think that jw's are just a somewhat kooky brand of christianity.
is it possible to "try and follow jesus" and not be christian?
what exactly makes someone a christian?

That's it! The Jesus stories are most reasonably explained as myth. History makes this obvious.
by Island Man ina careful examination of the historical pagan religious context existing at the time of the genesis of christianity leads any reasonable person to conclude that jesus is just another one of several similar myths.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn7teoa9ark.

I have been down this road. As was said, we see what we want to see. Their are two sides to EVERY story. When I first joined this forum, I would research what many said about about God's existence, Jesus being a myth, the Bible not inspired and so forth. At the time, I was trying to get my bearings. Atheists seem as certain as religious leaders. I wanted to to make sure. What did I find? And what do I continue to find? No matter what someone says on this forum about where the Bible came from, what the Jews "really" believed, the "proof" of evolution, Jesus being a myth, God being a man made concept, so on and so forth. . I probably research just about every comment a person makes about these things, simply because I want to know. What I found is that for every claim, I can find many, many, solid counterarguments. The fact that 90% of witnesses turn atheist is telling. High control groups turn out more atheists than any other group. It is clear that the problem lies deep within the individual and his experience. We see what we want to see. -

JW Lurkers and curious. This is for you.
by punkofnice inhello, lurkers and curious.
i imagine you're reading this because either you think you can defend your beliefs victoriously or you have doubts.. i have 2 questions that i hope you can log in and answer (no one will know who you are unless you tell them or leave your page open for others to see).

I've thought about that question lately. What did I learn? It is almost like I have some mental block. The only things I really remember are things taught in Bible teach book. I guess because all the "deep" things I read are no longer "current truth". "Public" talks were just regurgitated Bible teach stuff. The service meeting was forgettable everytime they said amen. Being under mind control, you didn't realise that the Wt. was all about being loyal to GB. Example: Be Loyal to Jehovah and his Kingdom (the GB). Anything different was just filler. It just amazes me that when you look back, you can see clearly that you were under a "spell". Today I read scholarly works from Bible Hub. I could never go back. -

Does anyone know of someone that allowed something like this to happen and then woke up later? I can only imagine a person losing their mind and taking a trip to NY and....you know the rest. I would be scared to be a member of the GB. -

Wow! This really has been going on for some time! I knew these things but was not awake . So what we see now is not the beginning of the end. We might be seeing the second to the last stage. -

I just wanted to express a simple thought. Having awakened 11 months ago , I feel blessed to have awakened at this special time. I feel so vindicated. The Royal commission, the May broadcast, stopping of building projects, the GB clearly working in desparation to maintain power, Splane's generation chart and so on. In the long ago past, the "apostates" appeared they were looking for trouble. Now, we don't even have to try. It truly is a special time. I know some say the Watchtower will still be around when they die. But Greece is still around. But it's not the world power that it was. No one can say that what is going on now is anything similar to the past. It truly is different, and it will never be the same. It's the end of the Watchtower as we know it...And I feel fine. -

FMF: A Wake Up Story
by freemindfade insorry for the length of this, i hope anyone stopping by to read will take the time and read it.
i haven't included any things i would consider "apostate" specifics about doctrines, or major scandals.
it's just a general layout of the path i took to becoming an exjw.

freemindfade:
Appreciate your story. It is interesting what makes a person wake up. That is why it is so hard to wake up someone else. I remember telling a friend all the cover ups and deceptions of the Watchtower. But the next day he is still calling it "the truth". I think what you are saying is that while a specific thing may be the straw that breaks the camels back, it is actually a process. As I reflected on your story, I think about what really lead to my climax. The bottom line was that I was truly tired. I was removed as an elder unjustly because I was a bad father simply because I did not study a book with my kids. I was fine with that. I realised how free I would be now. I was so tired of battling jealous elders about everything. I was so tired of watching other "happy" witnesses do nothing in the congregation, while I was working like a dog. I moved to sign language, and was so tired of seeing 22 pioneers out of 40 publishers not going out in service. I was tired of watching people wear their responsibilities like military stripes . Yes, I was just physically tired. After serving for nearly 25 years in the congregation, I now seen things through the eyes of an average publisher. I seen more hypocrisy. I now knew what it felt like to not be appreciated and be "just a publisher" who had to prove their value. Counting time, pioneering, started to really irritate me, since I knew that it was simply a self elevating thing that you can be judged by. Yes, when you start to reflect on things, you can see that a lot more was going through your mind than you thought. All you needed was that green light and then you got the heck out of there!

Did you see a GB member ever...
by Gorbatchov intoday i read a news topic about the pope in the us.
of course, we were all indoctrinated that the pope is the devil himself.
but, did you see a gb member or a local wts official ever giving attention to a paralyzed witness?
-
vinman
I just heard on CNN, that the Pope will visit victims of child sexual abuse by clergy. Maybe some will contrast this compassion with the filthy, self-centered scum in NY that sit around a table trying to figure out how they can get their members to believe that they have the best policies !
