yesterday's bookstudy on divorce got my shorts in a bit of a knot.
apparently, according to the god's love book, a wife could consider legal separation from her husband if she is physically abused, but (get this) only in the case of extreme physical abuse, and if the wife's life is in danger.
He encouraged women to stay with their husbands in such circumstances so that they could be "won without a word".
Oh, I have a "Word" for them...
But, I don't think Simon would appreciate it here on the board !!!
I can't believe I actually sat there, in that seat, week after week, and listened to such bull.
My heart goes out to all the woman that suffered, I am so glad you got out.

i sometimes fell that i don't.
i mean that i don't put out the long thought provoking posts of some, such as atjeff, and i don't delve deep into the socio-political arguments that are always flaring up between the cons and libs.
as a matter of fact, except for smartass comments, or contributions to fluff posts, i don't really add anything that matters.

I too, think we all bring something to the board, a mutual understanding, as was stated. I've been here so long, I'm basically over all the deep spiritual threads and I stay out of politics.
I'm at the stage where fluff and just enjoying the site is enough for me.

i'm back from my first ever date with a non jw guy!
i'll tell more about that later, but as i was on the way there i remembered about how i used to pray before meeting a jw date, ( none of which ever worked out) and i realised that not praying and not attributing everything good to god has really boosted my confidence and thereby my pride.. it means that whatever goes right in my life is down to me and my hard work.

what do you members think - is there any mileage in 'formally' apologizing to my 4 sons (now aged 20 - 34) of my stupid jw indoctrination during their formative years?
i still have pangs of guilt.
yet, on balance, i have to admit that it couldn't have been too damaging as they are all totally out of the cult.
I apologized to my two Daughters...
We had a very good discussion about it, and they both said they forgive me, something I think parents in these situations also need to hear.

i have come to believe that we are an amazing bunch of people - we made our way despite all the odds and fought for individuality - and won.. even today i was told that going back to the hall would solve my problems (by a jw family member) and i honestly can say that i felt amusement.

i know some jw's who only watch movies with specific ratings.
some will watch only pg and g. others will watch pg-13.
but i know which ones i can watch these with and which ones not to.
PG-13, never watched R... as some in our cong. were counseled for it many times, and we always had to hear the talks about it.
Took me awhile to catch up on all the movies that I missed during my 13 years of being a witness....

i have been looking at this website for about 2 months now and feel i am now ready to say hi and intoduce myself.i dont want to give out too much info at this point in time as i still am in the org, but have only been to 2 meetings since the district convention in august and last time i went out on service was in march.
i was basically raised in the truth as my parents became jw when i was 2. i was married in my late teens and after 21 years of being married to a total control freak he left me (yay).
anyway since me ex left, i had been doing a lot of thinking about being a witness, and i wasnt really going to a lot of meetings - just didnt feel like it.

i was thinking, not counting those who are df'd for "conduct," it seems to me that there are two type of exjws that leave.
by this i mean the ones that woke up and came to their senses while still inside.
1. those who found doctrinal errors and couldn't stay with the lies.. 2. those who found that there was no love and left because of the betrayal of emotions, and realization that by this fruit you knew they were not the ones, their lack of love.

Maybe a #3... ( a desire for freedom)
I became a witness at the age of 28, I "Knew" what freedom felt like and after living in a box for 13 years... I wanted my freedom back, so I just walked away.
I now consider myself agnostic, and open minded to searching out and exploring new ideas.
I now have the freedom to do that...
