MsMcDucket's mom
by parakeet inmsmcducket's mother died this morning.
she posted the announcement deep in a thread she had started several months ago when her mother first became seriously ill, and as a result the post sort of got lost.
msmcducket, i hope you don't mind my taking the initiative to start a new thread about your mom.

Hello/Goodbye (I Don't Know Why I Say Hello/I Say Goodbye) - What Gives?
by BizzyBee inseveral posters (whom i will not name because it doesn't matter) have basically said good-bye lately.
we all responded as usual, with genuine sentiments - how much we will miss them, etc.
but, quite frankly there is something almost disparaging or critical implied toward the rest of us who choose to remain on the board by those who "move on.

Some folks have periods of their life that are especially busy, enough so that they know they won't have the time or energy to post much...so they let the board know. More of a courtesy than anything really.
Others are having a bad day or are feeling low and maybe decide that all the posting they do on the board(s) is detrimental to them so they say farewell...only to reevaluate when they are feeling better (which could be in a rather short period of time) and decide they want to continue posting.
Burn out too contributes. They ususally intend to return. Some say a goodbye, some don't. Depends on the person.
A few decide that they are done with this phase of their life (which is great, honestly). The unfortunate thing is when they think that the world revolves around them and that everyone who is anyone should think and feel the same way they do. They get almost angry at people who haven't felt the need to "move on", and have decided that those who continue to post and discuss JW issues are "losers". In their vast superiority and wisdom, they decide that they must let everyone know this.
Personally, except for that last group, I don't mind. People do what they feel they need to do. I don't mind wishing them well when they leave or welcoming them again when they come back. I've learned to relax a bit and not take these things too seriously.
LOL @ kk and ballistic. Yeah, I've dropped out a couple of times too...I wasn't missed either. Maybe I should have made a big announcement.

I became inactive about 5 years ago because I was fed up with feeling like crap all the time. Kept saying to myself that I'd go back one day but somehow that day never arrived. It felt too good not to play the game. A year and a half ago, I found the online world of ex-JWs and there was no more thinking about returning to that mess.
I was going to DA but never got around to it.

A Walk Down Memory Lane
by Undecided ini had a couple of tires installed on my car today and while i was waiting i walked down the old main street of leaksville, the name of the city before it was changed to eden.. i had a lot of old memories come back in my mind from my childhood.
there is only one store that was there when i was a kid.
i remembered doing street work and the very spot where i stood and talked to a girl i liked who came by with her mother who was a friend of my aunt.

New Tracts fill Recycling bins
by Lilycurly ini thought the jws would never visit my appartement bloc...but they finally did.. i came home yesterday night to find one of the new tract folded a few times and inside my mailbox.
i was really excited of course, but a bit dissapointed that i wasn't there to get it directly from them.
i looked around the other boxes, and it seems like the dubs just left one to everyone without even trying to knock.

Cool idea on taping up an altered copy down by the mailboxes, Lily. Oh, the persecution!
As I recall, none of the Old Testament prophets went into cities, wrote a note of doom, and left it behind for people to read later.
Arthur, this totally cracked me up. Hm, yes, that doom thing doesn't quite have the same impact when you read it in a little note shoved in your mailbox or tucked in your screen door.

Any active dub disappointment 'bout lack of persecution from the CRAP TRACT
by Kudra inyou know, they were all riled up and saying that the tract would precipitate armageddon and all.
have any of them even noticed that no one batted an eye in response to the "campaign"?
isn't the tract-work supposed to be over now?

This is going to be just like every other big, important, CRITICAL, (stupid) handout campaign. They get everybody all worked up because it makes for at least a miniscule spark of excitment at the deadly dull assemblies. That excitment carries over into what ever month the pieces of tissue paper are being distributed...then....nothing. Nothing at all. The dubs won't even remember that the big persecution was supposed to come on the heals of their shocking handout. It will all just fade away never to be spoken of again. Until next time the WTS decides it needs to goose up the faithful.

circuit ass-embly
by bonnzo injust a few notes.
the entire ass-embly was dealing with materialism or higher education; apparantly one leads to the other.
why cant the wts realize that higher education is not just a means to get rich or ahead in this system, but a means to have a career outside of janitorial work?

Chameleon said: Ok, so the WT says that college isn't necessary, and at the meetings they say "Give us more money or God will kill you."
Apparently, the WTS has determined that its in their best interest if the majorty of JWs are lower-middle class (or less) on the income scale, who have to work like dogs to afford their extremely modest apartments or houses (if they are lucky), who do limited television viewing (because they really can't afford cable), who have no high speed internet so that surfing the net is difficult, and who can barely afford a family outing let alone a vacation. This way all attention can be focused on the Kingdom Hall, where the remainder of the family's disposable income is supposed to go. This was certainly what we were hearing back in the mid-80's in Illinois. I had gone back to school. Probably the best thing I could have done for myself and my sons...and I quit on their advice. Probably my one biggest regret ...other than joining the cult in the first place.
