  parents became jws 1953. i grew up under the old congregation regime, congregation overseer, assistant overseer and theocratic ministry school overseer, along with assorted ms. father df 1956 reinstated 1962. i was baptized ?63.

  in 1972 was being groomed for ms position in new kh until i married a girl who was?gasp!!!

  ?only an ?interested person?, that is to say she was ?just studying?, divorced too (another gasp!!

  Thanks Michelle, I'll look it up. I've only started reading the Bible again after a 30 year lapse. I've got S.D.A. baggage from my teens which makes me concentrate more on the good news of the gospel, instead of concerning myself with whether/ when the signs of the times are here. I now ask why should it matter? Was the call to "stay awake" just so that when things start to happen big style, faithful believers will not be too alarmed?

  4. "Spot on" is an expression I use just about every day. It simply means "dead right" or "you've hit the nail on the head"

  Can you answer a baptism question

  someone got baptised last week, and their partner who was present (i was not) says she was baptised in the name of the father, son and holy spirit, not a spirit-led organisation.

  he says the 2 questions did not refer to the organisation.. is he mistaken?

  somebody killed the pope's last poop thread just because someone else was offended when i mentioned that i think that he wasn't such a good guy.

  if you think you might be offended by what's said in a thread then don't read it.

  I don't mind threads like this, after all I'm posting on this one, and did the last.

  I have just started studying with a JW, and I thought I had an agreement with this guy that neither of us would attack other religions. He keeps breaking this agreement. I can't understand why he feels it important to prove something false, when I already know it to be false. Perhaps he thinks that makes him more right.

  I have no problem exchanging views about the Pope, but the way it is so emotive reminds me of my study with this JW. I'm going to try once more to persuade him to ignore the negativity of criticising other religions, and spend more time on something a bit more positive.

  I've been avoiding the news as I don't like to hear all the over the top sentimentality when someone famous dies. Princess Diana was a good example.

  I think every death is sad, and we are all of equal importance.

  However, if someone feels the need to criticise the Pope at this time, does that mean they are still under the power of JWs. It seems the org may have done a permanent job on some folks.

  i live in an extended family of jehovah?s witnesses, consequently i am often asked why i "dont accept the truth".

  long ago i found that it was always best to keep my answer short, to the point and non-confrontational.

  those in a similar position to myself might find my usual response of interest.. all my family are aware that i did extended research into the watchtower religion at the time i studied with the witnesses.

  I believe the words of 1 John 2:26-29 apply to all, not just those who were baptised before Joseph Rutherford closed the New Covenant in 1935 due to heaven being 'sold out'

  BTW, Why did Jesus Christ think it was so important for us to be born again?
