Alaska joined the Union of the United States of America in 1959!
NO WAY....
No one tells me these things...
(since i suspect i am being watched to ensure my compliance to the terms of the settlement agreement, i thought i would take advantage of the captive audience) .
hey!
watch tower!
Alaska joined the Union of the United States of America in 1959!
NO WAY....
No one tells me these things...
i was a forth generation witness.
my great-great grandmother came in near her death when she and my great grandmother lived in new york and would go to rutherford's talks.
then my grandmother got baptized in her late 20's and went inactive.
I was fourth generation on my Fathers side and third on my Mother's.
As for me and mine... we won't be adding to the string of ignorance, thank goodness!
i'm too cheap to pay for cable.
there's really not a lot of stuff to choose from that's worth watching for the price.
free tv sucks the most, reality shows and other mindless garbage that keep making its way to market.
I generally have too much going on to watch a whole lot of tv. When I do have it on, it's generally tuned into HGTV. I love home improvement shows, and we're in the middle of remodeling our house so I get lot's of great ideas.
The only show I'm addicted too that probably kills brain cells every time I watch it is "Most Haunted" on the Travel Channel. I don't know what it is about that show... I just can't bring myself to miss it.
my kids constantly amaze me.
when other people are around they are little angels but once it is just their mom and i...look out....they release their true selves !
lol.
I don't know what you're talking about.... they look like perfect angels to me!
No really, hahaha... I have a few of my own... and they don't even bother with the angel-ness around other people. lol
The other day my beautiful but strong-willed (to say the least) two year old freaked out and threw a tantrum right at my feet because I wouldn't give her something she wanted that was inappropriate. She screamed and threw herself to the ground and flopped around for awhile. The other Mother I was attempting to hold a conversation with looked at me and smiled and said "So does that ever work???" LOL
The cuter they are.... the more they KNOW it!
i've been lurking here a long time.
one of the topics that i rarely see disscussed is how many of you parents beat their kids because the religion told them to?
if so did you really beat your kids (after reading from the bible) or did you ignore the rule?
I can't speak from a parents point of view when it comes to spanking and physical punishment. I have children, but I feel guilty even giving them time outs. I'm a horrible disciplinarian, I'm more apt to laugh at their antics than punish them.
I can speak from experience of being a child beat on a regular basis because some men in Brooklyn told my Father to.
As much as I'd like to think I've totally moved on, and as much as I cringe at the cliche' of "having a bad childhood", I still carry quite a bit of baggage around from all that.
My Dad never told us twice... ever. He told us once and then we were beat. There were times I was given a note to get out of PE because of the bruises from my middle back down to my knees. It still makes me sick to my stomach to think about it.
I won't get into all the horror stories, just suffice to say I still carry the feeling that my Father never loved me. My brothers and I were mearly little robots to be beat into submission. My Father never knew me as a person. The disciplining policy is a big reason for that. My feelings were irrelevant... my obedience was all that mattered. They don't make any effort to understand the psychology of children... just make them fear punishment, and your children will do anything to try to make you happy.
It worked until I was 17, I took the first chance I got to get out. That's the problem with the system... control only works so far.
I don't know if this answers any of your questions... just a bit of rambling on my part. I find it hard to even articulate this stuff... it's pretty buried.
just some good advice from the watchtower regarding researching the religion of your upbringing... .

3-4 my religion is good enough for me!
Haha- This reminds me...
When I first left, my Dad called me and told me- "I know you'll come back to the truth, because you're a smart girl and you'll figure it out just like I did".
Geez... I really hope he wasn't holding his breath.
i got reinstated some time ago.
to get back my family.
went to a couple of meetings, then called saying i'd be out of town for a while.
Good for you for taking such a firm stand! Best of luck in continuing to fly under the radar!
If I were you I'd start by changing my phone number. At least then you don't have to experience those gut wrenches every time you hear one of their voices on your answering machine...
ok so i have pissed my wife off today, but i couldn't hold my tongue on this one.
lol
we are going bowling tonight and she had on this sweatshirt that her daughter (also jw) gave her from college.
Very funny, but sooo typical. I remember my parents freaking out over certain words. For example... I got into trouble for mentioning a Taurus... as in FORD Taurus. My stepmother got agitated and asked me to call it "Torso" instead.... WTF?
.
.
i will tell you why i think that you didn't get picked later.
So, Effervescent and Sparkplug, would you ladies like to, uh...do it? uh hehheh, uh heheheheh
heh heh heh... you said "Plug"
.
.
i will tell you why i think that you didn't get picked later.
Dan, I think you underestimate the power of geekdom over the ladies...
I caught myself a geek, and he's the sexiest thing EVER.
Maybe it's all that talk about hard drives and software....
