I also have a few of the assorted house keys (front and back door), car keys (for two cars) and small coupon cards from a couple of stores. My favorite things are two of those picture thingies that someone else mentioned- (my daughter, k-1st grade) and a thing that says- "I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on". I've had that for years and I can't bring myself to part with it!

I don't live in DC, but I was just there a month ago visiting the sites and was pointed to a place about a block from the White House called The Old Ebbitts Grill. Great place, authentic antique interior for the most part, very cool atmosphere and good food/drinks. It seems to be one of those historically interesting places. It's on 15th Ave I believe. I would definatly recommend going there.

Moon Halo's?
by Jordan inhas anybody seen many of these before, i just saw one as i was coming in from the pub, i thought i was imagining at first, until a friend rang me and told me to take a look at the sky, he seemed convinced it was aliens.
lol.
just interested, have they been there lots of times before and i've just missed them, or are they rare?.

We see these frequently up in my neck of the woods (Alaska), and they are quite pretty. We are lucky enough to live in an area with lots of great things to watch in the sky. I've actually recently seen a setting sun with two large sun dogs on each side, almost like a partial rainbow around the sun. Also, the northern lights are fantastic and very visible in the remote area that we live. It's been my experience though, that the moon dog is a sure sign of cold and/or snowy weather. Gotta love those phenomena. Has anyone here ever seen the elusive Ball Lightning? I've seen it once, about 10 years ago from an airplane. Would have never believed it if I hadn't seen it myself...

Bible study turns tragic two dead
by DannyHaszard in2 kids drown in qc pool

a bible study turned tragic for two children after they drowned while swimming in a pool at the watchtower compound of the jehovahs witness in roosevelt ...

Also of note is the statistic that FHN posted that said 75% of drownings occured when the children had been missing from sight for five minutes or less.
As a mother of four I've had ample experience with the fact that children operate at warp speed. You can literally turn your back for five seconds and in that time they can dismantle, climb to the top of, destroy, color on, or eat almost anything.
I'm a paranoid parent, and I still haven't managed to avoid them hurting themselves somehow. (Not badly thank goodness!)

Do you still *want* to believe?
by daniel-p inif the answer is "yes," please explain why.
.
(i don't think this question needs explaining - i think you all know what i'm talking about.

I don't think I ever had a firm conviction or belief in the JW doctrine, which was far worse to me than anything else. To have doubts about the "Truth" but to still feel the guilt of indoctrination. Alot of stress left my life when I realized that it was ok for my beliefs to be a fluid and evolving thing.
So no... I wouldn't want my brain bound by their limitations.

Disturbing Information Passed on in Annual Elders Meeting?
by Dune inas you all may know, the elders around america have had (or will have) their annual meetings.
you know, the ones where they are trained and brought up to date about the whole scheme of things.. anyway, an elder who i happen to be close to was telling me yesterday that some troubling/disturbing things has been going down in congregations worldwide.
he also mentioned that it will be mentioned in watchtowers and km's in the next few months.. anyone know what he may be talking about?

I would imagine this would cause even more paranoia and judging. Hardly the spiritual paradise they claim JWs enjoy even in this imperfect system.
Exactly my thought... If this is indeed the "Disturbing Information", they're setting themselves up for a witch-hunt. As if it wasn't bad enough already.

JW kids: How old were you when you stopped getting spanked?
by rebel8 injust curious.
i was 17 when i was last spanked.
it was the day of my high school graduation.

I don't remember the specific age that the formal spankings stopped. I'm pretty sure I was in High School. But that's not to say that the physical lashing out still didn't happen, mostly by my step-mother. More than once I had finger mark bruises around my upper arm or a swollen face. I could handle that though, I personally preferred to be beat than to be told the things that were screamed at me in anger. It's no wonder my self esteem was in the toilet by the time I ran away for good.
If for no other reason, at this point in my life I can't even wrap my brain around being in a church where it's your spiritual obligation to abuse your children.

Yes, this article was quite vomit inducing. Thanks for the brilliant as usual comments Blondie!
I found it most interesting how they blamed the falling away of college students to the (so-called) immoral atmosphere of University. Of course it wouldn't have anything to do with forcing the students to start thinking for themselves and looking at things logically. Oh nooo

Have you ever just wanted to pick up and leave?
by destroyedbyhate inhas anyone ever wanted to do that?
to just leave and tell no one where you are going.
start over fresh in a new place where nobody judges you based on your past.

Ohhhh yes!
This is the reason I live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. Wouldn't give it up for a million bucks.

Methinks the only thing that would truly distrub the Society is a lessening in the cashflow coming in. This would relate to attendance at the KH and hours in FS. Of course they'll put a "We're living in the last days" spin on it. Put the fear of the Org in them.
It's all about the $$$$$$
