  The Capable Wife....

  right before i got disfellowshipped in 2002 i was sitting in the kingdom hall listening to an elder give a public needs talk.....and this one floored me.. so the brother starts talking about what it means to be a capable wife...of course all of the scriptures and regular bullshit we've heard over and over....but then he goes on to say...."so what i'm saying sisters is.... to save money to help with the household you can make a garden and get food from that to make your dinners.... you can learn how to sew so that you can make your own clothes instead of spending money to go and buy them at expensive department stores.... and you could look into your circumstances to see if its feasible for you to quit your jobs to stay home and run the household....blah blah blah.." i can't much remember the rest because my head had blown up to the size of jupiter with the hot steam i was about to let go in the middle of the talk.

  i decided it was better to get up and go... and i did.

  i only mention this now...because (now divorced from my ministerial servant husband of 10 years), i am a single mother that has worked her ass off not only in the secular world, but now as a mother raising two children, getting my college degree and maintaining every avenue of the household responsibilities on my own.

  Rebel got it right.... this guy's a total dork who has NO IDEA what he's talking about. Nowadays it's not cost effective at all to make your own clothes and can your food. Clearance racks and coupons will take you a whole lot farther! That being said... I love to sew, and make clothes for my girls all the time, but just because its a hobby I love. And gardening is very time consuming... especially if you have to grow enough to feed your family for a year!

  Pretty much all of the rules and regulations surrounding women in the congregation are silly. It's all a bunch of overblown men trying to assert their authority over anyone they can. Especially if a woman is raised a JW, they can become an easy target. (this might not be true for everyone... but I know it took YEARS for me to get the idea out of my head that I had to submit to my husband's and other men's authority)

  Can a prospective divorced member marry another JW

  i have recently chosen to have a bible study with the jws because i have recently met several jws who have inspired me by their goodness towards others.

  i have been married twice, divorced once and now recently separated.

  none of my marriages ended due to adultery on either side.

  On top of what others have said...

  I would have to wonder about the mindset that Watchtower rules and laws supersede what the bible says... Why not just see what the bible says on the matter and let that guide your concience if that's what you're looking for?

  Jehovah's Witnesses will quickly fill your life with man made rules and regulations, I would think now on the implications of that before you're too deep inside.

  Disfellowshipping is still alive and kicking.

  They've just changed the announcements to read the same as disassociating... so that in the congregations minds they are one and the same...

  this may not be as amusing to the members here as it is to me, but i would like to say that irony is my favorite thing.

  i was doing some searches in the watchtower library cd 05 and it was crunching the numbers on the loads of bull crap it found.

  all was going well until i decided to do a search for "witchcraft"... when the program crashed, gave me fatal error, and shut down.

  Holy Spirit not in the Halls

  at at district convention, the speaker at the beginning, saying how we need to take notes.....listen, don't miss anything....sleep well at night .

  no walking in the halls, hanging out in the halls.......... jehovahs spirit is in the auditorium, not in the halls!

  Unusual preaching method I spotted today..

  while waiting for a streetcar today, i noticed an unusal flier stuck to the side of a newspaper box.

  why has love of neighbour grown cold?many people feel miserable with no solution.

  in israel, jews and arabs live together, but often hate one another.
