Flat Stanley needs to move on!
by bikerchic indamn that boy can eat you would have thought he walked all the way from new york his last designation!
in his defense he's also a worker, he's trimmed our cedar trees, walked the dog, cleaned up the dog's poop, did the dishes (sorry about his arms falling off, they are paper ya know), oh and he did the dishes after he cooked the dinner.........gawd do i really have to part with him?
all in all he's a great little guy, doesn't talk much, is very well behaved and doesn't take up much room either, so anyone interested in having flat stanley be a guest please pm me with your addy first to reply is the winner but get in line for the next designation after.. here is the original link explaining all about flat stanley: .

Watchtower and Awake in the waiting room
by kj ini found a couple of nice wt and awake magazines in the waiting room at work today.
i decided to dress them up with some flourescent green labels with the freeminds.org, silentlambs.org, and quotes' website.
hope the jw who left them will come back and check them out .

We had a sister in one of the Halls we went to that was very old, but had been pioneering forever. If I remember right she had for 40+ years. Her name was Myrtle, and she was probably the only one I had seen in my life that just LOVED going door to door to talk to people. Problem was, she was very hard of hearing. I remember many times being sent to a door with her and when the person would tell her they weren't interested, or pretty much "Go Away", she wouldn't hear a word of it. I was pretty young, and afraid to interrupt her, so I remember many times the householder having to just shut the door on our faces because we wouldn't just leave.
On the other hand she placed alot of magazines simply because the household thought that would be the quickest way to get her off their porch!

Gave 586/587 evidence to elder today
by SeymourButts ini decided to take the big gamble today and stopped to visit an elder relative of mine.
the gamble wasn't the visit, but what i did while there.
i am many years da'd, but still have a fairly good relationship with most of my family.

Thanks for bringing this experience to the forum! I'm relatively new to the board and hadn't seen Alleymoms thread. Really great stuff, it's nice to know there may be hope for cracking those dyed-in-the-wools after all. When I end up having to discuss this with my Elder father I'm calling you!

Mental Migets
by mrsjones5 inyesterday, while i was folding and getting ready my papers for my saturday paper route, i was in the jw chatroom on yahoo.
there were quite a few jws there (which has become an unsual thing - most diehard jw chatters have gone to paltalk where the control over a chatroom is more rigid) and i engaged a couple of these jws.
i asked my usual stumper "is there any historical proof for the year 607 b.c.e.?

His sense of humor... he can always make me laugh. And we love the same stupid things.... We're even such nerds we can watch hours of "Flying Circus" and then spend the next hours quoting from it. I found a fellow geek after my own heart and I was just lucky I found such a handsome one!

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier Celia!
Stan did arrive safe and sound and is actually currently on his way to Jezabel in Florida. I told her he's ready for fun in the sun and has his speedo packed!
There's a neat video I picked up all about Alaskan animals headed to the sweet kids in Washington. I was soooo happy to be a little tiny part of this-Thanks!!!

What more is there to the equation than "happiness"? It's not enough.
by AlmostAtheist inthe thread on "happy jw's" got me to thinking about this.
there really are some truly happy jw's.
maybe it's because they don't take all the "do more, do more" stuff to heart and just do what they think is "enough".

Some of the things you describe make me think of the saying "Ignorance is bliss". If one has known nothing else, either culturally or religiously, they have no reason to feel discontent.
On the other hand, I think there is a big difference between a truly joyful life and mearly existing, but finding things to be joyful about. Someone can live in poverty, and be unhappy about the state of their lives and their families but still find laughter in everyday situations.
This is just my speculations, but I think to make a life worthwhile for an individual there must be some kind of moving forward. The knowledge that you can move on to better things, learn more, be more, do more. If I had nothing to look forward to in my life, goals to accomplish and personal growth, I don't see how anything would be worth it.
The problem with the Witnesses I believe is that a person can grow and accomplish all of his life and still never reach the standard that they put forward. You can never be worthy of God's love no matter how hard you try. How can you be happy when your goal is so totally out of reach?
I for one am much happier on the outside where my growth is unlimited, both spiritually and otherwise.
