The ridiculers were "right ".............all along
by vitty inhow do you feel, now, knowing that the ridiculers, objectionist or non-jw family and workmates were right.. i feel a tad embarrist, i spent a long time, 20 years, trying convince, or prove ppl that i had the "truth" .
my only consolation was that i would be proved right and that they would end up looking foolish.
pride is a terrible thing.

I agree with 24k. My dad who was never a JW actually started crying when I told him I was done with it.
Told my dad I'm leaving the JWs

Star of Bethlehem
by HAL9000 inlast night my wife came home from a book study at which the topic of the star of bethlehem was raised.
she asked me (ubm) whether i was taught that the star of bethlehem was from jehovah (god) or the demons.
the response from her was that it was from the demons as (i think that this was the response as my interest was evaporating faster than ether) "the light shone on herod first" plus 1 or 2 other reasons.. first time i've heard this line.

One of the best explanations of this I have EVER read is located here:
Was the star of Bethlehem Satan's Star?
The beauty of that article is how it is written in dialogue format.
Enjoy!

I personally thought it was really cool.
Unlike many of the washed up celebrities (aka Meatloaf) that showed up and REALLY NEEDED this live TV performance - Prince didn't need it.
To me he epitomizes a true superstar and that arrogance is part of what makes him Prince. He spent most of his career exposing a corrupt record industry - so the last thing he is gonna do is sit there and kiss Ryan Seacrest's ass, or even Simon's. I mean Simon and some of the other record label owners there represent some of the worst cheese on radio today.
And the way Prince sauntered off the stage, with swagger, was cool IMO.
For the record:
No, I am not a Prince Fan Club member. I don't even own any of his albums.
No, I don't post on any Prince messageboards.
I just appreciate his career, songwriting ability and musicianship.
Now if we could just get him out of this kooky cult ...

Are JWs Discouraged From Seeing The Da Vinci Code?
by Seeker4 inin another post on the da vince code, it starts by saying that the wts doesn't want the witnesses to see that movie.
does anyone know if this is true?
where has it been stated?

Honestly I think it puts the Society in a tough spot because the Christian churches are railing against it because it puts into question the whole bible. But the Society can't really side with the Churches because they take great pride in being (supposedly) different.
But they can't really condone it either.
So the Society does what it typically does in it's dysfunctional, passive-aggressive manner - they simply don't say anything.

It is finished, or is it just beginning?
by IP_SEC inwell i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.

Letter to family - first draft
by sass_my_frass inafter a few weeks of being very angry with everybody, making an ass of myself, and being rotten company, a few people told me to start sorting this hurt and anger out, and an effective way is to direct it to the people who caused it - the people who shun me.
so i might send them this, or some version of this, in a while.
in october we're going to the other side of the country where they all live, to see my darling nan and maybe close things with the witnesses for good.

I love it. That last paragraph is especially golden because you don't dwell on the real issues but you do enough to make them have to think about it.
Great job.

Lots of Bethelites Not Happy With Downsizing
by Seeker4 ini had a long conversation last night with an old jw friend whose sister and brother-in-law are bethelites since the 1970s.
she is an artist, and he runs a small but important department there.. we were talking about the bethel downsizing (my friend was well aware of it), and i told him i figured his sister and b-i-l would be safe due to the fact that they are now in their 60s and have something close to 4 decades seniority.
but he said no, that they were worried that they would be asked to leave as well, sent into the circuit work or as special pioneers sent where the "need is great.".

Here's some more Blondie:
Examining the Scriptures Daily, May 19th, 2002
Of course, the number of those associated with Jehovah's Witnesses is not a criterion for determining if they enjoy divine favor.Watchtower July 1, 2002, p.13, paragraph 17-19
Now is the time for Jehovah to express mercy to his anointed servants and their other sheep companions. The evidence that this is so is the extraordinary increase with which he has blessed them…18. Each year, hundreds of thousands of additional "foreigners" associate with Jehovah's organisation, and the way will remain open for many more to follow them. Jehovah says to Zion: "Your gates will actually be kept open constantly; they will not be closed even by day or by night, in order to bring to you the resources of the nations, and their kings will be taking the lead" (Isaiah 60:11) Some opposers try to close those 'gates,' but we know that they cannot succeed. Jehovah himself has said that one way or another, the gates will stay open. The increase will continue.
19. There are still other ways that Jehovah has blessed his people, making them beautiful in these last days. It's great when they contradict themselves in the very same YEAR!
