I was always told it is because we are so close to the end, ie it is right around the corner, it is more important for everyone to be attentive at each meeting so as not to miss any of the necessary spiritual food if they are to survive armageddon. ha! such bunk! meanwhile our families are suffering...

Why don't Jehovah's Witneses offer childrens activities?
by Dragonlady76 ini have always wondered why the jw's don't have a playroom/area or offer kids activities during the meetings.
i would imagine it's been brought to the societys attention at some point.
it just makes so much sense to offer a place where kids and go and play, where they can be read to, have them sing, color pages on bible related stories etc..... .

Interesting. When I was a 'dub' growing up, one of the arguments they used against the Catholic church was the fact they made changes, meat on friday, saints, etc. But, J's people didn't change or need to because of having the 'truth' from the beginning.

A special Christian message to terrorists.......
by WingCommander inlondon has my sincerest condolences on this great day of tragedy.
during this difficult time, it is easy to become full of hate and want vengence.
i know all about those feelings, and i remember in the bible somewhere where it states, "vengence is mine, sayith the lord.

Any Lefties?
by Why Georgia inmy oldest son is left handed.
everytime he does anything different from the rest of us.....my husband relates this to being left handed.. he is very artistic, detailed, and extremely particular about how he wants things in his little world to be.. this may be because he's 5 - who knows.. are there any traits of left handed people that you lefties may want to share so i can be prepared in the future?.
thanks in advance,.

Leftie here as well. We certainly are better lovers and more creative and noisy as well! hehehe Brooke: I don’t turn my hand or paper either. Even been complimented on my unique & beautiful handwriting, ahemm, it was a lot of work compensating. Originally I would write from the right side of the paper till forced to learn otherwise. My parents even took me to a doctor before school age to see if my undesirable leftness (word?) was a fixable medical condition???? And, yes they were jw then. The world is definitely built for the right-handed. Check out the slant of your kitchen spatula! In the past wasn’t the left hand considered the hand of the debil himself? I’ve even run into older European born individuals who have told me that my leftness should have been corrected to rightness in order to be acceptable in society. Huh???

A Challenge For FunkyDerek... My Experiences With The Afterlife
by FMZ inhey mate, don't mean to pick on you, but i know you are a good sport.
;) to all other non-believers, this thread is also for you..
it seems you always want proof and evidence of some kind of afterlife, but always have a "reasonable explanation" for any evidence put forth.

I believe one would have to have an experience themselves in order to firmly ‘believe’ the happening to be true. It is something that simply ‘rings’ true in your mind and life. Should we ignore such experiences when they can have such a strong impact on our lives by convincing ourselves what happened is not possible? On the other hand the inexperienced, so to speak, certainly have no basis on which to believe such things/events are real unless it happens to them. Things of this nature are very personal and individual. These events seem to just happen and cannot be contrived for scientific examination. I'll now add, IMHO :). Personally I would love to set up the the scientific equipment to read the events as they are happening, we just are not there yet...

Spirit Directed
by Smiles_Smiles in.
and i just wanted to know if i am the only one that felt that 'spirit' led them into the jw and the same 'spirit' led them out of jws???
a bit confused but loveing every minute of the peace,.

I was raised a jw and had no choice in the matter. Alot of their stuff never made sense to me but I tried my best to conform. And did, until I came to the conclusion that if I and my children were ever going to to have a chance for happiness I had to stop all involvement. I chanted my way out, "I will not feel guilty, I will not feel guilty..." and into peace and happiness. So no, no spirit direction by any definition leading me in or out, just common sense and the will to live and be happy.

dropped wife off at convention this morn...
by tetrapod.sapien ini just got back home from dropping my wife off at the convention this morning.
i took the day off of work so i could celebrate the occasion of freedom from mass-delusional-cult-think-programming.
out on the porch, sun shinning, birds chirping, scotch in one hand, demon haunted world in the other.. as i was driving my wife to the convention grounds, she thanked me for all the help i had provided her in getting ready for the convention, and for driving her.

I just read your post and it brought tears. you are so wonderful and loving, what a fool she would be to accept the jw cold-heartedness! Beard? you certainly do not look militant or disrespectful of anyone to me. and just where does anyone or any organization get off picking on someone for their physical appearance??? again your avatar is hardly one of a scarry, godless, or uncristian individual!

Elders wont answer my questions
by gringojj inwell i had written up 30 or so questions for the elders.
i made it very easy.
ther were mostly simple questions with yes or no answers.

because they can't. anymore than you or i could answer direct questions from householders when faced with them in the door to door work. also because no one wants to have the finger pointed at them for giving any kind of a definite answer. jw reasoning is nothing more than circular. which means, they will never give a definite answer to anything. after all, only the most high can do that... and just when was the last time you were conviced he/she has done that?????
