i have been visited by a local jw woman weekly for almost 4 years and started weekly study about 1 year ago.
friday things took a more serious turn and i am very uncomfortable.. i need advise on how to stop the meetings (without being offensive) and still get away from this madness before it gets out of control.
You don't have to be rude if you don't want to. However, YOU MAY HAVE TO BE FIRM AND CLEAR because JWs are a very persistent people.
I totally agree with this. Be firm, but don't be rude, and above all, just be honest. If you feel that this religion is not exactly what you want for yourself, then just tell them. They will insist, they might even suggest you study with someone else, or you study a different book. It is not alway easy to say no when they insist. (heh, I know that for a fact). Good luck.

back in the early 90's began researching the bible (not the nwt because it was too flawed), she used the kjv and the niv, she also used strongs and a bible that had both greek and hebrew in it right along side the english.

I am mad because most of the people on this board know what it is like to be persecuted being that they came from the org and now some of you are still persecuting others by calling them crazy for their beliefs.Thank you ever so much for making me feel welcome here. I read through the posts and just want to say I am sorry. Personally, I have never believed that God all of a sudden stopped communicating with people. There are countless examples of people in history who said that they have communicated with God. Were they taken seriously, or were they laughed at? Right, they were laughed at. Although many did turn out to be fakes and had their 15 minutes of fame, I believe in at least one person who 'saw' something. If you are not familiar with Bernadette of Lourdes, then look it up on the internet. If not, I can send you a couple of links. I visited Lourdes when I was young and it left an impression on my soul for the rest of my life.
There is no way for me personally, or for anyone else, to know for a fact that your mom's experiences are true experiences or a product of the imagination. Therefore, I prefer to keep an open mind.
You have my support and I hope you stay, because I enjoy your posts (and I'm not just saying that to make you feel better). People react in different ways, and I can understand the unbelief and the suspicion when a post like this one appears on the board. Please don't feel disappointed. Just ask yourself what you can learn from this, keep the positive comments in mind and forget the ones that hurt you.

I've never known anyone who's kept a skunk as a pet....
Well, I didn't say I was normal. Some animal was eating my garden, so I set a life trap, in order to catch it. The next day, a skunk had been unfortunate enough to get caught in the trap. Now, how do you take a skunk out of a life trap without getting sprayed? It's not easy. I made a 'spoon' on a long stick and started feeding him catfood. He loved it. After a few hours I was able to come very close to the trap. He knew that I was bringing food and he was no longer afraid. Once I got him out of the trap, he spontaneously followed me home. True story! My cat loved him and they liked to play together, so him moving in with us seemed just like a normal thing to do. He was an albino, and probably shunned by his family because of that. This is what my guess would be, because I have tamed skunks before, and it usually takes a lot longer than a day! In the end, I had grown quite attached to him.
i'm wondering if our departure has cost the society and local congregations money.
It depended on my income. I usually gave $20. Not on a regular basis. Just whenever I had cash in my pocket, or when I had ordered a book. I did make it a habit of taking the poor ones out for lunch after the Sunday meeting. They would never have gone out for lunch if nobody had paid for them, because they just didn't have the money. I am hoping that now that I am gone, that perhaps I can still take them out for lunch some time.
Got to admit that I have donated much more money to good causes than to the KH.
i am pretty sure there are many different (excuse my layman) "denominations" of judaism, but what typically is the hope of a jewish person?
do they believe they are going to heaven?
do they believe in a paradise earth?

Haha, hmm, I never specified what Waldo did. I use the name Waldo quite often in my writings. I used to have a skunk whom I named Waldo, but he died last year, got hit by my neighbor's car. He denied it, but his car smelled like skunk as if there was no tomorrow.

Thanks Robert. How about the books that are left out in some bibles? I can't remember their names, but there are like 4 books which I used to see in the bible when I was a kid, and recently found out that they were left out in most versions. Are there books included?
