MissPeaches,
Sounds like an interesting conversation coming up, as the elder probably won't know much either, but can't afford to appear to be ignorant of the info, so he will blah blah blah as elders do to make out they know everything.
It must astound some people when the ex dubs know more about what is going on than they do!! Go JWD!!!!

What was your first Apostasy?
by Dune ini'm re-reading 1984 and the similarities between the wtbs and the "party" astound me, but anyway, it made me think of the time when i started to get doubts (thoughtcrime).. i remember once at this book study a sister commented about the 1914 and was reciting it's historical accuracy.
anyway, she went on to mention that the demons were probably learning everything about biblical prophecies from the wtbs.
i was 13 at the time but the comment made me cringe, i was thinking "why would superior beings need humans to interpret the bible for them?

Mine first came after all the changes, i.e Generation, Judging of Sheep/Goats, etc. The scripture in Matthew 13:47-50 about the KIngdom of Heaven being like a dragnet. So I wondered about the explanation, as there had been quite a description in an WT mag and DC talk some years earlier. It was all neat and packaged, but now with all this "new light" the whole explanation of this illustration is totally cocked up.
Nothing makes any sense.
So I asked some family about what they thought. I explained it all and hightlighted the inconsistencies in the new light as related to the WT explanation. Well you'd a thought that I had two heads. They were quite scared that I had "run ahead" of the FnDS, and was now on the edge. I asked a few others about it, all claiming to understand, but no one being comfortable to listen to where this was going.
I know, I'll ask the CO, he'll know, wow!! did he get cut. He didnt have time to be discussing these kinds of questionings.
So I know, I will continue to support the brothers of Christ, not get into a twist about it.....what a dummy. Should've persisted then.
Took all the pedophile stuff to finally jolt me out of my BRAINLOCK, as well as heaps of sh*t that went down over time. -

WT copyright violation, using others' music as Kingdom Melodies??
by rebel8 indoes anyone remember being taught that the wts got into trouble way back when for using someone else's music w/o permission?
i swear i remember reading or hearing from the platform their excuse that they didn't remember the melody was used by someone else and it was an honest mistake.
something about them using parts of some other church's hymns in the kingdom melodies....something like, "a musician hears many songs and doesn't memorize them all.

At a meeting once, there was this guy who was a bit of a fringe dweller, who commented that some of the songs in the old song book were directly from christendom. He listed about 12 that were from Anglican, Protestant and other sources, with only a few minor changes. It astounded many, and didn't win him any favors for some time.

Like many, I have seen several CO's finish their tours of duty. They then have to settle back into congregations as a normal pleb, except these guys are used to throwing their weight around and being all "manly". Their wives have been bitches to people and now they have to be nice because thay have lost their status.
Some publishers still push a few dollars into their hands for a while, but eventually these ex co's cant do that much for the up and coming young gun ms or elder, so the fade into history.
One previous quote: "How much glory does the rank and file bestow on poor insignificant ex-bethelites. In the eyes of the publishers they will have been demoted no matter how much the Society tells them and the flock that it is all for Big Jah.
They are all new and exciting, but before long every one has a gutful for them. These guys are usually big rule book pedlars. -

My D/f appeal meeting went amazingly, but the still want to d/f me
by jwfacts insorry how long this is but i found the meeting very exciting.
the short version is i said directly that i do not believe in the wts, feel being d/f is unfair on my jw family so asked them to just leave me alone.
it didn't work.

jwfacts....you stood up, for everyone. Some may not have attended, some would, but you have shown all your fans one way of dealing with this situation, which helps us all to be prepared.
They had to stick to the WTS rules... they think that if you could get a law suit up, that by doing that the WTS would then back them, would they? They have ducked and dodged other law suits in the U.S. and they would do the same here. These guys would be sitting targets.
Thanks for all your hard work. Wonder if Yana Vendt would be interested? -

The Watchtower Society achieved their goal
by Honesty in.
they were able to use the united nations to get access into countries where their literature had previously been banned or rejected.. i just wonder why they don't give the united nations a little credit in the publications when they announce that new doors have been opened up for the kingdom preaching work?

SWALKER...question, is there a money trail too? Does the WTS receive money from the UN or is it the free use of planes, vehicles and a door into certain countries?
Love the info BTW. -

A New Trend for JW Baby Boomers?
by NYCkid ini'm sure this topic has come up before but i'm new here :-) since many of us are offspring of the baby boomer generation or of a generation earlier, i've noticed a trend.
my parents and their siblings who largely grew up as witnesses are now entering or have entered retirement age.
although my parents were generally hard working and responsible people, they have little retirement savings.

Even now 92 years past 1914, if you start trying to do some financial planning and get yourself ready for when you retire, you get frowned upon by the self righteous class. We started our own retirement program with the aid of a financial planner nearly 5 years ago, and then comments in talks started about people investing money blah blah blah.
At the time I guess we were having a bet each way, now we see it as a necessity, we didnt take out supperannuation when we could have at 18 years of age, so now it is work work to get some where, at least we can work and not waste time banging on peoples doors and sitting in dull lifeless meetings..... -

You cannot live forever in paradise on earth
by Gopher inthe watchtower society has, for about seven decades, been attracting new volunteer workers for its field ministry with the promise of life forever on a paradise earth.
even the titles of its main study books since 1968 bear the promise: the truth that leads to eternal life, you can live forever in paradise on earth, and knowledge that leads to everlasting life.
how logical is this hope that leads people to entrust the watchtower with their time, energy and worldly possessions?

I enjoyed the logic used in your post Gopher. My mother-in-law told me on Sunday that we'll [the wife , the kids and I] be back [in the "truth"] dont you want to live with us in the new system? I know she means well, but really, I had a hard time agape-ing everyone as it was, let alone being forced to live with them for eternity!!

What would it be like if I weren't brain washed for over 20 years?
by NiecyMe inhello...this is my first posting.
i heard about this web page from a friend that has a boyfriend that is trying to live life out of the clutches of jw's for the last 2 years.
i have found that even though i haven't been involved with jw's for about 10 years, thier nails run deep.

Hi and welcome,
As has been said, I could mirror the thoughts that you have written too. My wife is 3rd generation JW and I am 2nd. Having spent all our formative years in the borg, and now mid forties we have ceased. Not DF or DA, just stopped going.
I think that to unhook, we need to understand, and it seems that you are doing that, that the WTS is not God's organization, just a group of old men muddling in peoples lives, with selfish intent, holding you back from whatever life has to offer. We have read heaps, books, forum posts, listened to peoples testimonies from JW Info, and broken down the teachings by reading alternate points of view like Carl Olaf Jonnson and Ray Franz etc. One the high and mighty walls come down, the guilt factor reduces too.
I love this forum, so many diverse points of view and the one thing that many posters have in common was that we were all conned......bad. Most seemed to take a fairly severe hit [a big theocratic upset] before we began to unlock our brains, [that had been force fed crap for so long].
My 2 cents worth.
Keep focussing on the peace. Enjoy your tuesday and thursday evenings and sleeping in on sunday mornings, sitting in bed drinking coffee and reading the news paper...... :-)))
