Question Re: Jwfacts: In catching up with ex JWs I am learning that a number of young couples commit fornication prior to their wedding and never confess, including brothers in positions of authority. Some of these are never found out, and to this day some still have positions of authority.
Isn't there a loophole for position people? If their sin was unknown and a whaile ago, they could confess it and NOT lose status?
BTW: We had a couple here, raised their family, 2 sons and a daughter. The daughter grew up, married but later was DF'ed. The Father, our PO for many years had a certain amount of contact with her and her new husband. The contact was questioned a few times, but he always controlled the situation, and after a while, it was left alone. One of his daughter-in-laws was not happy about it and either was her father a top gun elder but no authority as he lived elsewhere. When there was an opportunity to take him down for it, she had "evidence" she got cold, and left a couple of elders out in the cold.
Jump forward a few years.
The wife/mother dies. The daughter-in-laws father had moved here and was appointed and elder, as well as we had a big shot elder who was on the local RBC and thought nothing of cutting the guts out of other elders move in as well as the CO visiting. The question arose about the funeral and the attendance of the df daughter and the cup of tea ofter the service. The big shots all said that this would be "eating with her"!!!!!
Dont worry that her mother has died....just any elder or ms that would be in attendance would NOT be attending the afternoon tea final!
Then they even moved around the crowd at the funeral and reminded the whole servant body to stay away from the daughter and not attend the afternoon tea.
Man it really sucked. Even though I was an elder at the time, you were absolutely caught by the balls. These guys patrolled all the time, it was absolutley sickening. Dont reach out to this poor woman, dont show her any concern.
I couldn't be like that, so I made a bee line, shook her hand, told her that I was sorry for her loss, but couldn't give her a hug, who would be watching? Everyone!! She held my hand and you could tell she didn't want to let go. My wife also extended her sympathy.
What did her husband think?
What a huge slap ihn the face it was to the former PO, and what of his departed wife? It still makes me sick!

How Jehovah's Witnesses are told to treat disfellowshipped Relatives.
by jwfacts inin another thread it was mentioned the witnesses do not shun disfellowshipped relatives, so i thought i would copy a few articles that show the watchtower says quite definitely that they are to almost totally shun relatives, along with some examples that i know personally.
i personally know many that have not been contacted by their parents for years;my cousin was my best friend, and for a year before my disfellowshipping week after week i spent hours with her and her child, who spent 4 months of his first year in hospital.
on the day of my disfellowshipping i was informed that i am no longer welcome there, and i have not seen my second cousin for 6 months now.

Drew....you rock!!!
Having taken the Wt study, if I had someone who made the "way out" comments, I would see their hand up, look around, wait.......look some more then look at my page, then with my head down, I would then call on the reader to read the next paragraph, instead of asking Bro Wayoutthere his answer. I concur with a previous comment, about it being your last answer. Let's hope not.
I did give a talk about bible chronology from the SI book, but interspersed it with the information from Gentile Times Reconsidered....I loved it, and no one seemed to pick up on my opposing information.
But all the best to you. And it is their problem, not yours. -

Internet fulfillment of Matthew 13:47 - WT 9/15/06
by Gregor in"again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net (interossos catchmo), that was cast into the sea (universalis webicus) and gathered of every kind (neticus surfas)" mt.
so today, as we all strive to be worthy of the blessings of jehoover gawd we must avail ourselves of the blessings of his internet.
truly "food in due season" for those who hunger for the truth and some occasional soft core porn.

This passage is/was a big deal for me. After the "new light" of 1995, I was looking at the wt explanation, which I think is still the current light a wt from about 1992, which had a huge explanation of how this scripture was understood, but in line with the 95 light, nothing fitted.....check it out for your self. The sheep and the goats, the wheat and the weeds and the good fish and bad fish, none of it ties together at all.
I asked a few people about it, including our CO at the time, no one wanted to even look at it, or consider that the 95 light was crap!! they all thought I was a screw loose....an embryonic apostate!!! -

The advice is spot on. But, yes the question remains, What is "necessary family business"?? When I was "in" and an "elder" this term was bandied about, as in "only necessary family business" and nothing else. [You know, elders laying the law down because someone thinks that someone else has crossed the line and needs a sharp jab up the rear!!]
But the family with the df'ed member says, yes, the wt says necessary family business, so there are times when we can have contact.
NO ONE not even the mighty elders almanac spell out exactly what is and isn't necessary family business.
What have others been canned for? What have others been "allowed" to do? -

I'm going back to the JW's
by Honesty inif you can acccurately disprove the mathematics in the following i will be at the local kingdom hall first thing in the morning and ask the elders if i may rejoin them in worship.. here is some information i have compiled regarding what the watchtower has printed in regards to the babylonian kings and how the lengths of their reigns can be calculated to arrive at the date of the destruction of jerusalem by nebuchadnezzar.
if you're like me you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
as the date for the destruction of jerusalem by nebuchadnezzar comes up.

Quandry: I really am clueless here. Even if 607 were the correct date, the point is---as has amply been made in the references to the new District Assembly, OBEDIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Are you kidding??? Yes mr. Scholar does break the rules and he'll be judged by thw WTS for that....if indeed that is his real name!!
But Obedience required? Do you mean blind obedience, or is there a slight hint of sarcasm? -

Why do elders talk to me and smile, and ordinary JW's shun me?
by JH inif i meet an ordinary jw, most of them will shun me.
if i meet an elder, they will look at me, talk to me, smile and make me feel as if i'm still a brother in good standings.. .
who's in charge here the elders or the ordinary little jw people?.

The ordinary dubs cant count their time, the elders probably see it as on opportunity to be seen to be helping you, and they have their meters running...you are helping them with their report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMO

My father in law is a PO in his congregation. A brother had lots of pages and scans of stuff he has got a hold of. Well the UN thing came up. We had mentioned it to him before, so he thought he would write to his branch and find out exactly what it was all about. Fair enough, go straight to the source.
His BOE got a nice little letter back about only becoming an NGO so that they could use the library!! AND as soon as they found out that this happended, they removed themselves from membership.
Nothing about being sprung by a newspaper anbd embarrassed into getting out of the UN.
Sadly my father-in-law thought that we would benefit from a copy of the letter. It might have answered one of our concerns and we might come back. We hadn't spoken about our situation for some time, and it opened the box of pandora. We spat out plenty. He mustv'e wished he had said nothing. Instead of two things that we were concerned about he now knows there are many many more.
Hope that he has a few bad nights of little sleep and the whole conversation haunts him for a while, he may even think about what we said!!
Do you think so? We hope so. -

My Inlaws just told us the other day that they serve and dedicated themselves to Jah, not to an organization........can you believe it? Does this make them apostate?
We said not to go into their hall and say that!!!! they will be in for it, but sadly they didn't get the inference. They dont seem to understand the chain of command, no jesus as mediator, so they need the org and fds for salvation, don't they?
