what is there to find "beyond" reason? (inspired by BurnTheShips)
by inkling ini was struck by the honesty of a recent comment by burntheships,.
but i didn't want to hijack the thread.... [w]e see a lot of threads where atheists try to disprove that god exists.
atheism is a universal negative, how can one know for a certainty that something does not exist without infinite knowledge?

I then ask him about the code it takes to create a human being. Our dna is a much more complex code, so why should that be random but even something so simple as html code must be designed and structured by a creative and intelligent person.
Nature didn't create HTML. Humans did.
Nature is "creative and intelligent" in its own right.
So then, nature vs. god would then be what I would address to you if I were in your son's shoes. -

This is my cousin's wife! My name is Matt and I live in Illinois. Her husband is my cousin. I haven't spoken to him in 5-6 years since my Uncle's wedding (before my DA). I didn't even know they had another child. So sad. Matt
Wow So sad!

my real fantasy
by Hortensia inhere's my real fantasy: i'm a massage therapist and i've been giving massages and listening to massage music for 25 years.
i wish someone would create some well-thought out massage music for me and name it after me (not hortensia, maybe hortense?
or my real name?

I know what you mean! I used to go to school for massage and have a few cd's myself. Just when you think the music should get nice and relaxing (back work), a rather upbeat-scare-the-$hit-out-of-you melody comes on. Not cool... Plus, watching the clock meant for less concentration on the body.

Athiest or Agnostic?
by real one inhow can one be considered an athiest?
athiest means you believe god does not exist.
agnostic means you don't know if god really exist.

Neither do I. I am not saying you need to know everything im saying we don't know everything. and anyone that says they know everything is a liar. The evidence we speak of is limited to the knowledge of the individual involved.
Since we don't know everything how can we take such positions as athiest or agnostic?
Since we don't know everything how can we take such positions as guilty or innocent? Those are black/white whereas athiest/agnostic is more like white/grey.
O.J. is a great example, AA. Based off what we know/what we don't know vs what actually happened.

by NYCkid inhello, just want to highly recommend the danish film, "worlds apart" now being screend at the tribeca film festival in new york.
the acting is superb and the filmakers represent the witnesses accurately (to the "t") withoug making them appear fanatic.
after all, these are people sincere in their beliefs no matter how absurd.

What is the best way to help BurnTheShips...
by nvrgnbk into grasp that the basic purpose of science is to produce useful models of reality.
how to help him understand that trying to make observable reality "fit" around a collection of writings designed in its first half to inspire the oftentimes persecuted jewish people and in its second to consolidate the fragmented roman empire is an exercise in futility?.
sorry, burn.. i couldn't resist.. hope you're having a wonderful day,.

If it makes you feel good to call believers "crazy", then that's your thing. There are crazy people that are believers and crazy people that are unbelievers. Crazy can cover a broad spectrum of people.
Where do you think the term "mad scientist" came from? People thought their "knowledge" was idiocy, but later....sometimes centuries later, they were proven correct. Crazy is not in the knowing or not
knowing.....it's all relative.
You're misreading what I wrote and adding to it.
Again, for lack of a better word meant that I did not want my post taken the way you took it, nor was I going to spend 20 minutes thinking of a nice nice word. A point needed to be made pronto and that point was directed at your words and reasoning that I addressed. Empty reasoning. Call it what you want, I guess.

Most unbelievers....not all....are doubters because they don't experience this connection and can't believe that others REALLY do. They want an explanation....they DEMAND an explanation. It just doesn't work that way.
I would say that most are skeptical because they experience a disconnect from something that has been taught as reality only to grow to accept the reality that truly is, and reality itself is free of dieties, therefore, they can no longer believe that others really do have a connection to reality when a deity is thrown in the mix.
So when an explanation is desired, and reality or at least something that shows hints of reality cannot be provided...then no, reality won't work that way. Crazy does-For lack of a politically correct word.
