i was born into the "truth", so it is pretty much to only life i have known.
i have been studying the bible seriously since my teens, about 15+ years.
then it hit me about 6 months ago, i?m not really studying the bible, but rather the wt publications.
Welcome jula71,

it was pretty odd.
we had a jw sister come to our door on sunday by herself.
she walked up really slowly and quietly.
In our hall they used to call that the "marshmallow knock".
it isn't what jehovah's witnesses believe about the bible that has made them captives of a concept.
it is what they believe about the watchtower society that has done it.. there are two things that are necessary to compare.. 1) the society's interpretation of matthew 24:45--47, the most important scripture in watchtower theology.. with.
2) watchtower history as it relates to their interpretation of matthew 24:45--47, the most important event in watchtower history, 1919 jesus's appointment of them as god's organization.. from don cameron's book, "captives of a concept".. if you haven't read it yet, it's right up there with 'crises of conscience'.if you have loved ones that you want to help get out of this organization, this book is the key.. blueblades
Thanks for that information.I called the bookstore a while back and they told me they couldn't find it anywhere.Hopefully they can get it sometime soon,I'm very eager to read it.
i just had to help brooke pick on had enuf!.
hehe.
doh!
You took me for a fool
Then you took me for a ride

has anyone ever asked someone about way the memorial is still celebrated?
the belief is it is to be done yearly until he arrives, but he was supposed to arrive in 1914. so if that?s the case, he?s already here.
why is it still being celebrated?
I asked that to a former elder once. His response was :"I know where you're going with that one".
And that was it,I think in general they would prefer not to have to reason on it.
It does if you're a jw!
eventually, i believe that if an inactive person refuses to talk to elders, stops all meetings and service and might create any possible problem to the local congregation, that they might be loopholed into showing themselves as having "disassociating" themselves.
it would be an easy way to get rid of deadweights that can cause more harm than good in the congregation.
I agree on this one,and it would make it easier to ex-communicate you or force you back into the productive fold once you understand the consequences of "if you don't attend meetings,go out in service and claim to be one of jehovah's witnesses, then this is what the new green book, jehovah's literal word, printed by the fds says about you....that you've in fact disassociated yourself from jehovah's visible organization....OH,and look here it says you're equal to a disfellowshipped person..."
Maybe this is the loop-hole that some were trying to figure out, wouldn't surprise if they try it.
i ran into an old elder buddy recently and we got talking.. to put it simply, i don't know how he does it!
- that is, i don't know how he continues to be an elder when i consider.
what he knows about.. he knows about the bulgarian compromise.
Ha,Minimus got it right...WAIT ON JEHOVAH!
That is such an ingrained jw mentality, they just can't shake it.Sometimes I tell my wife I'm gonna start a new religion and when someone complains I'll just say " wait on God to take care of it".
This wait on jehovah thing sure covers a multitude of sins.
.
although i don't go to meetings anymore, i usually go to the memorial.
but this year, i couldn't go even if i wanted to..... my jw clothes don't fit me anymore.... i certainly won't spend 200$ just to go to one meeting.....
Yup,I still look more like a banker in my suit than I do a jw.
this thought has sprung from recent threads and speculation over the new book.
i know many who post here are still active jw's or ones who were df'd, but may have not totally left the belief system.
many have trouble with the methods and policies of the wt concerning dfing, restrictions, blood, local elders etc.
NO!
