When will people "stop" relying on "churches and religions" for happiness?
by booker-t init just breaks my heart when i read some of the posts on this websites and hear all of the horror stories about people and families suffering because of what the church or religion did to them.
not just jw's or mormons, but catholics, born-agains are also included in this group.
i bet you could find just as many disgruntle ex-catholics and ex-born-agains out in the world who have been severly hurt by their church.

Intolerance - a new breed of ex-JW

i cant help but think of the analogy of pendulum swings when i think about how vitriolic some are towards religion (of any description), the bible (and other scripture), and christianity (generally, regardless of there being a wide range of denominational flavours) in particular.. it seems to me, from my perspective of sitting here on a remote scottish island, that there are a fair number of folks who may have left an intolerant and generalising religion but forgot to leave those attitudes with it.. just my 2p, coz to be frank i'm getting sick of it.. by all means enjoy some self-expression, it's a relatively free planet, but have a heart....

I am able and willing to endure your use of pot, so long as your use and my life don't intersect in a negative manner. However, your lifestyle choices and your promotion of said lifestyle are not above criticism. Just as mine are not. Being critical is by no means being intolerant.
Secondly, I don't have a problem with people criticicizing Christianity. There are plenty of disgusting things about Christianity in my mind also. What seems odd is that those that claim to be the "free thinkers" are usually the most intolerant when it comes to those of us that profess faith in Christ. I have seen this on other boards that I frequent. For example, I know of one board with a prolithic post who is a Taoist. Among the "free thinkers" he is lauded when he posts according to his beliefs, but yet when a Christian posts according to his/her beliefs he/she is excoriated with intolerant banter. This is not simply critical thought, but with statements that are similar to what is found on this board. Basicly, it is the inability or unwillingness to endure a viewpoint counter to their own.
Lastly, the point that should be emphasized is that critisicism is not intolerance. We are critical of many things, and many times that critical look is the sum total of our personal experience combined with our education. Some times it's too much of one and not enough of the other. This is done way too much today. Too many times the manner of deflecting criticism is to raise the intolerance flag. This is happening here in Los Angeles with a charter school teaching a bigoted & seperatist agenda. They have been called on the carpet for what they are teaching, and instead of demonstrating why the news reports are wrong, they are calling the station that broke the story intolerant, and the reporter a pedophile. So again, since when is criticism equated with intolerance?

When I was being raised in "the troof" I was told I would never leave school, never finish college etc etc ;- well, it's been a while since I've done those things.
How many of you here were told you wouldn't get married or have kids before this old system was destroyed?
Besides that, the Watchtower writes articles that get dumber and dumber.
How's that for a Peter Pan religion?
It is totally a Peter Pan religion.
For these reasons I never took full advantage of public education until my Senior year in high school when I raised my GPA a full point by applying myself and taking college prep courses.
I remember being told that I would never have to finish secular schooling. I remember praying to Jehovah nightly to bring Armeggedon in elementary school so I wouldn't have to face a bully the next school day.
I never learned how to resolve conflict until I left the WTS, because I was taught to "wait on Jehovah."
The list goes on and on.

who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?
so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?
