MEN - when did you finally understand/ forgive your Dad?
by hamsterbait inmost men will agree that in the teens they all fall out with and disagree with their father.. when did you start to understand where he was coming from?.
i remember a poem, where the writer describes how he always thought his dad was mean and intransigent.
he is lighting the boiler in the morning, and starts remembering how all through his childhood, the house was heated when he got up, and like his own father he cleans everybodys shoes before they get up on sunday.. i think it is only when you go through a similar crisis to the father, or finally have rebelling sons that true understanding kicks in.. i was vile to my father whilst he was dying of cancer.

The FDS never put any words in Gods mouth - oh NOOOOOOOOOOH?
by hamsterbait infrom the watchtower 1943:.
"these expressions of god's will by his king and through his established agency constitute his law or rule of action for the "faithful and wise servant" and for their goodwill companions today who will dwell upon the earth for ever in the new world.
the lord breaks down our organization instructions further and makes them more practicable by further instructing us through his "faithful and wise servant".. .

DRAG ME TO HELL - a cult classic to be?
by hamsterbait ini saw it tonite, and was scared out of my wits, giggling and enjoying spotting the horrendous number of continuity gaffes (i am convinced they are deliberate!).
the cat fight with the gypsy is a classic - she is trying to put a curse on the girl.
during the fight her false teeth fall out, and she attacks her throat with her gums!!

Adam and Eve should have scuppered God'sWIll before the breezy part of day
by hamsterbait ingod barred the way to the tree of life after a&e ate of the tree of knowledge.. because if they ate of it they would be guaranteed never to die.. so - omnipotent god says that if they eat the fruit of knowledge they will die.. and - omnipotent god says that if they eat the fruit of life they will not die.. so is god here admitting he cannot make them die if they eat yet another goddam piece of fruit?.
this sounds a bit like the argument i used to dismiss (was it hegel or kierkegaard?).
can an almighty god make an object which he cannot move?

by hamsterbait inwe have two posters whom we all love for different reasons.. they are both children of god, or at least "children".
whatever side you sit on.
be kind.. the love of christ will save us all in the end.. so why be so nasty to each other?.

Were your kids distressed after time with JWs?
by hamsterbait ini am asking this as i think testimony from first hand could help people see what danger they leave their children in with jw baby sitters etc.. my friends let their 10 yr old daughter stay the weekend with her jw cousins.. when she came back she was having nightmares, bursting into tears, clingy (as her mother might be killed at armageddon before she got home from school).
and asking explicit sexual questions, (yes they had taken her to the kingdumb hell).
i am repeating this post as it disappeared the first time.

Gods fluttering spirit and the luminaries of day and night.
by hamsterbait ini was very ill this weekend and started brooding over the ot which fascinates me even now.. according to egyptian religion, the spirit is shown as a pair of wings.
since in genesis the literal words are "the spirit of god was fluttering above the face of the waters", why do translators hide this obvious animistic phrase by translating it "moving to and fro" rather than fluttering?
(remember the gospel where gods spirit flutters down in the form of a dove?).

Awake on aliens and jehovahs prophets - need reference.
by hamsterbait init was a mag at the end of the 70s, beginning of the 80s.
discussing the existence of alien beings.. one of the arguments against it was the use of the scripture that "jehovah will not do a single thing unless he has already told his prophets.
since he has not informed the fds of alien life forms, it must not have been created.. the other arguments are also specious - but it is interesting that even on this subject there is the tacit assumption that they are jehovah's prophets.. (of course they then affirm there is invisible life out there in the form of angels, which was not the original subject under discussion.. where is the quote?.
