My Dating horror= You can't have coffee at the mall without a chaperon???
by Witness 007 inbeing a pioneer/servant for years, i thought i was very responsible.
when dating a sister whom i later married, i read every publication on courtship the society had.
i then spoke to an elder whom i thought was "resonable" and we agreed as the publications say: "a couple can meet together in a public place, when courting, without a chaperon.

Maybe they felt the Martha Stewart linens in Kmart would prove to be too tempting.
Unchaperoned couples + high thread counts = panky (of the hanky variety) -

If They Weren't a Cult Before.....
by AllTimeJeff ini just wanted to officially change something on my viewpoint.
i have thought about this for a few days.
i used to think that while they were in some ways controlling, that jw's did not meet the criteria of a cult totally.

Jeff It's hard to argue with that. I too only thought about the local leaders when I left and felt that it wasn't a cult. It doesn't take long, however, to think about those at the top jobs and what they MUST know about the inner workings and decision making.

I love John Waters too. Remember that Simpsons episode where Homer thought Bart was gay? Great! Also - who was gay on Kids in the Hall?

I wonder if this will give a jolt to many who are desperately clinging to the hope that the end will come before they die. It seems the WT is starting to condition that most JW's should hope for a resurection. The "life is short" comment and the idea of looking forward to the afterlife as their future is new to most JW's from our time. Are they ready to accept that leap of faith to continue busting their humps only to be rewarded after death?

When I first read this thread, I mentioned it to my active JW wife and asked her what she thought of this comment. She said she already heard it at her convention in Dekalb, Illinois - so either it was the same speaker or someone who copied off him or it was in the outline.
