i finally saw that november 15th wt article on prayer that everyone has been talking about - the people in the photos look as stiff as corpses!.
people will be called in the back room for inadvertantly making contact with their spouse during prayer.. i think i will adopt the following stance during prayer now:.

leftchica,
You have been given a lot of good advice here.
Using another Bible to compare the NWT is a great idea. Here is a web site with over 100 different bible translations.
I wish you well.

I've always loved Chet Atkins guitar playing.
Back in the early 1980's, we (my late wife and daughter) became friends with a family in Moundsville, WV through my contacts on ham radio. The brother played guitar just like Chet. He was fantastic!

please feel free to post recent links i may have missed.. .
Sounds like an upright man to me!
I'd say it was because he already had $money$ and didn't need to rely on the organization and KH's to take care of all his needs. Because of this, he was able to think out of the box.

i've been lurking here for many months.
i served as an elder for many years, and regular pioneer for much longer until recently.
i'm also a mts grad and was used extensively on the circuit and district level.
Hello NLP,
Welcome and I wish you the best on how you handle your exit. It does take some time to get over what has been put into our minds by the JW teachings but you have 90% of the battle already won by having family who are not JW's. That give you an edge that many would be jealous of.
Take care,
HappyDad (ex elder and ex JW)
just wondering, are there any religions that exist that might be palatable to dubs?
i realize all of their teaching goes against this, but i'm wondering from an outside or neutral view, can you think of any that would work for someone who was/is a jw?
southern baptist?
I agree with Dixie about Calvary Chapel churches. In 2004 I attended one quite a few times in East Rochester, New York and loved it. Unfortunately here in the Pittsburgh area there is only one Calvary Chapel and it is just too far from me to go.
Also attended a Missionary Alliance church and liked it. Most of my time was at an Evangelical Free church. It was great and I'm thinking about going back there.
For the past two years or so, I've been attending an Assembly of God church mostly because I have a lot of friends there. Guess I like the social aspect more than their "in your face" teaching and emotionalism. At many of the services, I just cringe at the message and antics. The pastor's message all too often reminds me of the JW message...."you're not doing enough." I don't think I will be staying there much longer.
At all the churches I attended, there were wonderful people who showed real love and friendship, so unlike all the JW's I knew for over 30 years.
Try going to as many churches as you can without making a commitment to any of them until and IF you want to belong.

You hit the nail on the head.

overall my fade is going very well, but yesterday it really hit me that certain "milestones" are going to be more difficult than others.. i have basically gotten down to one meeting a week, wth no field service.. this despite the dreaded admonition "one week without field service makes one weak!
" (puke).
as i was on the way to the meeting yesterday, i was informed that i was assigned to read the wt.
Wow! When I read this part: ".........people give parts, put in their time in the ministry by peddling literature, and be considered good Christians, when they treat people like crap." it reminded me of my feelings 10 or so years ago. I know I said almost the exact same thing.
Hoping your fade continues well and that your wife eventually sees through the org. as well.

The last KH I attended about 1999-2000.......about a year or so later I heard the PO was finally caught and DF'd. Seems he had a girl friend nobody knew about for quite some time. The KH is in Western PA. If you want to know which KH it was.....PM me. I don't remember the PO's name though since I was slowly fading at the time.
