i have read somewhere that jephthah's daughter did not really go into temple service but was a victim of ritual sacrifice.
the bible says that after weeping over her virginity that the maidens would visit her annually.
how could they visit her if she was killed?.
Why is God so stupid that he can't inspire books to be written that mean what he really means? It requires mental gymnastics to get to anything but the conclusion that Jephthah murdered his daughter. God sure is a poor communicator if he meant anything else while inspiring this writing and subsequent translations.
I remember the horror of reading the account without apologist glasses on for the first time. Wow.
so lloyd evans will shortly be releasing his new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
i do enjoy his rebuttals and the stuff he manages to get hold of and leak.
but i'm struggling to understand what he could possibly write to merit a whole book.. all info on how to leave is right here on this forum.
Why do we have to agree with everything someone does lest we judge them as unworthy? Is it remnants of the cult? The person that does the most is the easy target by people that often do nothing. I'm sure he has an ego (like the posters here don't?) but many times that ego pushes them to help more while others feed their ego by pushing another person down. We are all susceptible yet we hold others apart.
Lloyd certainly has screwed up at times. I hope none of us are held to the standard of our worst moments to define us.
In the end, he can't be everyone's cup of tea. I'm sure someone out there hates my podcast. I'm okay with that if many like it and some are genuinely helped.
hi does anyone think that with the rise in abuse cases in the uk and the rest of the world and the w5 video as well as many others exposing the organisation that the society might use the loyalty to the organisation as brainwashing to keep people in?
they might say its all lies and an attack by satan and have to stay loyal and not believe any of it.
i bet quite a few will leave.
Will the sun come up tomorrow. The answer here is obvious. Yes, if pressed they'll do what they always do. Of course, the active JWs will do what they always do and bury their heads in the sand. Most everything now is brushed off with a simple "of course the organization is imperfect excuse". Nothing to see here.
hey guys!
i just want you guys to know that today is a really great day.
there are so many jehovah's witnesses that saw this documentary and were disgusted by watchtowers policy.
Great job by everyone involved and it was brave to be so open and vulnerable. Sorry that you had to ever be subjected to the abuse or the cult in the first place. We all walk away with so many scars from a religion marked by "love". Best wishes on your lawsuit as well.

Lloyd has stated on the record that he earns a living as an activist and openly thanked his Patreon backers. I frankly applaud the man. I think that many of us still hold onto the JW mindset that charging for this is somehow wrong.
I'm just started a Patreon account for my "shunned" podcast because people have asked me to and there are ongoing costs with what I do every month. I will continue regardless but if I could make a living helping people and spreading TTATT that would be amazing. I can't fault anyone wanting to do that. I'm sure that Lloyd would continue his work in a limited capacity if he wasn't backed financially but he's getting donations that allow him to do more. Good for him!
We need every video, book, podcast, flyer, conversation, etc. that we can get. Each voice attracts a certain person so let's all put ours out there and it seems like we should applaud others that do.
so, as some of you will know myself and my husband are in the process of fading.
haven't been to a meeting since beginning of 2017. .
we weren't planning on going to the memorial, but last week my mother broke down and said that we have to go to the memorial even if it's the only meeting i go to this year.
I don't deal well with people that are travel agents for guilt trips and their bad boundaries. You aren't hurting her, she's choosing to disrespect your decisions and to be hurt by setting expectations based on her values. That's her problem, not yours. I would feel worse stringing her along, giving her some false hope.
Hey mom, I'll attend the Memorial. It's like what, a couple hours of my life. Then you can sit down and go through Crisis of Conscience with me for a few hours. What? You don't want to? Oh, this only works one way in our relationship? Well then, I guess I won't be going, eh.
w5 on now in canada.
taking about the arc.
and other things.
Thanks for pointing that out Vanderhoven!
My wife and I just watched it. Very powerful.
i have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?
some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.
or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?
Women seem to be more community oriented and religions are great places for that. There also seems to be some correlation (anectdotally) between childbirth and looking for a religion if you don't have one. I've seen and heard story after story of ladies having kids and suddenly wanting to join a church. A lady we clean for is a data analyst and professor in the field of psychology and first pointed that out to me. I've noticed it ever since, and not just in JWs. Stereotypically women tend to be more emotional and I think religion caters to that more too through feel good stories, rituals, etc. Clearly that doesn't reflect all women, but adding those things up may account for a lot of the difference. These things are usually a by-product of many variables.
today is my birthday :) in happy to be able to say that guilt free!
.
Happy birthday man. Hope it was a good day.
