This thread was my email with a JW elder asking me how I got to a point where I couldn't believe in god anymore.

i'm not asking this question to cause an argument or accuse, but i am honestly just wondering?
for those of you who are now atheist or non-christian, how did you come to this decision?
i hadn't given this much thought until about a year ago.

just got done watching this program and what impress me the most was the bravery of those x-witnesses to sit there on national tv and tell everyone how the wt.
cult affected them.
no hidden faces, no avatar names and no disguise.
Wing Commander nailed it in his response. Good for you David!
thought i'd post this since the date is almost upon us for those who want to see it as it premieres.hope it turns out really good and that she can help many to see the watchtower for what it really is like she did about the scientologists.here's a link to a small preview of it:https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/video/leah-remini-scientology-aftermath-jehovah-s-witnesses-special-event-trailer-1153594
Oh, I think I misunderstood. My bad. I've seen lots of questions on Facebook about how to watch and thought maybe you though Barbara was helping on that. Lots of confusion put there among some on how to watch.

Are you all looking for links to watch the Leah Remini special?
my aunt is a super uber jw, albeit a little more delusional than the standard issue jw.
she has 4 kids all who are out and never baptised, she's a widow now and sold the family home and has bought a new place and has plenty of cash in the bank.
my cousins are all very concerned because their mum has a new friend whos "anointed" and says jehovah has spoken to her and she will survive armageddon and so will her kids if she sticks close.. she has been paying out for holidays and vehicle repairs for this anointed sister and her extended family and my cousins are alarmed at whats going on and can see the situation for what it is.
What's up my friend? Isn't it great how the elders "protect their flock" with such love? They don't care. As for the diet of nuts, you become what you eat, what can I say. I am sorry on a level that someone is getting taken advantage of, but that just kind of comes with the whole territory of being a JW. It's happening everywhere there. I don't miss those times.
I never knew any anointed but wanted to chime in anyway.
alright, so what is the deal with the thousands coming to the states right at election time seeking asylum?
i'm not up on this, usually try not to be, but how can this not be manipulative?
it's either manipulative in the size of the group and pressure that creates, or in where it started or who started this, etc.
@never a JW - Why can't libertarianism work with unequal distribution of wealth, beauty, etc? There are plenty of dumb and ugly people that hit it big. Of course, then they're seen as evil because they're rich, but why doesn't liberty allow people upward mobility?
It's not a fixed pie. One person's success doesn't necessarily equal the lack of success for another.
I ask sincerely as I've been told that I lean libertarian myself. I've listened to podcasts with libertarians on them. I don't grasp your assertion.
crazy people shoot up places and kill people.
take away guns and they will find knives, poison, bombs , etc.. seriously, there are a lot of mentally unhealthy people!
they need professional long term help..
I don't think it's an either/or situation. I'm not saying that I have the answer, but let's try not to make it easy to go kill people. Knives take work. Bombs do too.
Mental help also doesn't equal mental health. My guess is that many mentally ill people that kill have had mental help in their lives.
Honestly, I think it's a problem of mental health, gun culture, and the media fame that comes with these horrible tragedies.
good afternoon!
we are ex jehovah's witnesses.. in this video, we begin the world-wide action.
we call it action “escape from the watchtower”.. slavery in the united states was abolished on december 18, 1865. the fortress law in russia was abolished(аболиш) on february 19, 1861.. but jehovah's witnesses are still in captivity, in fear that they or their loved ones will ban communication through a procedure known as disfellowship.. we offer three easy steps to release:.
@Tameria - Oh good grief. How many times has that ever been an issue.
People that go on and on about not writing letters are usually those without what it takes to write one. Do or don't, it's up to you, but the anti-disassociation rhetoric is weak and easily shredded.
The whole "you're playing their game" argument is usually put out by people that are playing all kinds of JW games to keep toxic family while those that disassociate can just move on without having to pretend anything.
If fading is your thing, do it. If disassociating is your thing, do it. It's a personal choice based on many factors. There is no right or wrong no matter how much certain people, for whatever reason, demonize disassociating. It's just different. The Borg holds power over all of us to some extent or we wouldn't be here.

Disassociation is awesome but you have to have the guts to take that stand and you don't do it because a hash tag or forum post or video tells you to do it on a certain time frame.
a new episode of the shunned podcast is available now.
episode twenty - tamara is shunned by jehovah's witnesses.
i was editing this episode earlier this month, listening to the interview again, when i noticed that i had never said "what" or "wow" so many times in one episode due to the jws' appalling behavior.. .
