A new podcast interview, and a new book, on episode 15 of the "shunned" podcast.Jason grew up in Amish Country but was raised in the cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This story has cars hidden in the woods for a getaway, living on boats, time spent in rehab, a JW group of “lost boys” that were dealing drugs, just your average story of leaving a cult. You can see that Jason is an explorer, a person driven to learn and try new things, and how stifling it would be growing up in a cult where that is discouraged. He made mistakes after leaving the cult and wants to help others to avoid doing the same. In fact, he’s written a book about his experiences that goes into greater depth than we can do here. You can find his book entitled “Worldly – How NOT To Escape A Cult” on Amazon. As always, the episode can be heard on your podcast player of choice (iTunes, Google Play, Podbean, Podcast Republic, etc.). You can also stream it from my website at shunnedpodcast.com and find it on youtube on my channel called shunnedpodcast. -

Just because you weren't cut out for it doesn't mean that others weren't or aren't. Why is it so hard for some to understand that other people are different than them?
Good for you for leaving it behind if it wasn't for you. Good for others for having what it takes to do so if it's in their wheelhouse.

I have had active JWs listen to my podcasts. You never know who will listen, who might have a seed planted by activism, etc. All of this discouraging of people with the balls to do something publicly is pathetic. Sack up or shut up. It takes all kinds. People aren't all carbon copies of one another, not even in the cult. Some need a message that's in their face, others are scared off by it. Just the same, exjws need to express themselves in different ways.
We aren't in a cult anymore. I know some of you are so narcissistic that you feel the acts of every exjw reflects on you personally as one, but that's not true. Go show that you're different. Write a book (didn't you Morpheus, or am I thinking of someone else), sing a damn song, sit on your hands and do nothing, whatever you want. Let others do the same. I get expressing an opinion if you think it's not the greatest but why keep going at someone?
I applaud anyone with the balls to rise up and put themselves out there. I also respect those that can't or don't want to. We all have our own journey to go on, and we all have opportunity to voice ourselves in the ways that we can. If we can't, that's fine too. The way some act like they're the governing body of exjws in trying to tell everyone how to feel about the cult or how to react to them is the same as the bullshit we all lived in. As someone on here said once, your JW is showing. Celebrate diversity and freedom and let others be themselves. It's hard enough to fight the cult without your ex cult members pissing on your efforts.
I've been there. I've felt the same as others, trying to discourage things like crashes thinking that I knew better than people actually doing something. It's easy to be a keyboard warrior. It's harder to get your ass up and go make some difference. You never know who will listen and be helped. You do know, however, that by doing nothing you won't help anyone. Even if something you do helps inoculate the general public against the cult, that's no small thing.
I went to an Apostafest over a week ago. It was great. Imagine that same group going and hanging out while doing something active against Watchtower. My guess is that's what a protest is. Lots of community between those taking a stand together. Why discourage that? Are you still consumed with what JWs think only in a potentially negative way?
Good on you protesters. Do you.

My father has cancer??
by blisterfeet ini am semi estranged from my jw family.
i am interested in a relationship but it never works.. they aren’t interested at all so we just leave it like that.. i received a text from my half-sister yesterday saying “your dad has cancer, it’s bad, i don’t know anything” i figured there was more to the story and if my dad needed me to know anything he would tell me.
or not.. i spoke with my mom this morning.

I'm very sorry Blisterfeet. About six months after I disassociated my dad died. I was told that I could visit him in hospice one last time. My decision at the time was to be the bigger person (as I saw it) and to just be me, a loving guy that was now healthy emotionally.
I went. It was weird. It was all about them, as it always is with JWs. I pushed for my moment alone at the end and said some heartfelt and poignant things. I wanted to release my dad from worry and send things out on a good note. He offered me nothing.
Once I left I was dead to them again. I wasn't even invited to the funeral. My mom said we'd get together. That never happened. They'll lie or do whatever they need to do to get what they want. It's all about them.
Seeing my dad ultimately wasn't good. I got to end things on a better note but it was just me making it all happen. Being catapulted back in and spat back out of the family so quick was a mind fuck.
My mom can die alone (well she still has my youngest brother and my sister) . I won't be used by them any longer. I'm done unless someone comes out of that toxic environment. I owe them nothing. It was and has always been about them. One of my mom's biggest fears is that my brother and I who are shunned think they were monsters. I do. I can rationalize how they got there, excuse their behavior as victims, but in the end it would be me putting myself last again to make people feel better that would never do the same for me. So fuck 'em.
You do you. Don't be guilted into anything. Don't be something that you feel they want you to be. They wouldn't for you. Don't let them jerk you around. At the same time don't be prickly. Just be you, but make sure that you're taking care of you, not them, in the process.
Just my 2 cents from my experience a couple of years ago and my feelings after. I thought I'd regret not stepping up for them. I regret doing so now. They made their bed and alienated us, they can lie in it.

I have a friend that's a Freemason. They do lots of charity work. He's a great guy.
The Freemason thing is of no consequence. There has never been any proof other than inference that the JWs have any ties to them, people that have researched to try to get proof have failed. Bbbbbbbut, a pinky ring! Gasp!
There are way bigger and more real issues to get all riled up about. The theory is interesting, but without conclusive proof it means very little.

Bill Burr is my favorite. Brian Regan had a special called something like I Walked On The Moon that was funny. Jim Gaffigan is funny too.

cha-ching - "If they don't want to work, neither let them eat".... They quote it, but do they live it?
If they don't want to work, let them live off the government and worldly people's taxes that they talk so much shit about.
Fixed that for you. Bunch of damn hypocrites. I remember a couple being lauded on stage at a circuit assembly for moving into section 8 housing and quitting nice jobs to pioneer. It made me sick. I have no problem with people that need help getting help. I have a huge problem with people pioneering and collecting money from the government, which is you and I.

I got to listen today and enjoyed getting his take. Of course, being in the position he was in he has to remain as professional as he can and I felt like he did a great job of walking the line while being truthful, much like he did at the ARC. I like him and hope he gets another crack at them somehow, somewhere.
