nevermind my question, I looked it up and found what they were talking about... very sneaky.

Revoke Your JW Baptism Vows on this thread!
by Sirona inmany of us here were baptised into the jw organisation.
shotguns shootout thread (part 5) touches on the fact that since 1985 the vows included a dedication to "jehovahs organisation".. have you publicly revoked this?.
why not use this opportunity to revoke your vows to the watchtower organisation?

Movies and TV Shows You Didn't Watch Because You Were A JW
by minimus inthis week i mentioned how i never saw the movie "ghost" because it was considered "demonistic".
i also volunteered that that i could not watch "bewitched", although "i dream of jeannie" was a conscience matter......any thing you didn't watch because you were a witness?

I always watched exactly what I wanted to, R-Rated, "demonic", horror, whatever. I just didn't talk about it with Witnesses. Movies and tv are an art form, the writers and actors are trying to communicate something. You don't have to agree with the statements TV and movies are making, just be aware that's all it is - someone communicating through an artistic media. I didn't see anything wrong with looking at it that way. I did get caught a few times, but what were they gonna do, disfellowship me? Bring it on.

What site made you leave...
by Tuesday ini was asked the other day when telling my story about leaving the witnesses when relating finally having the courage to type "jehovah witness" into the search bar on internet explorer and clicking around.
i was never into doctrine at all when i was a witness, i barely listened at all anyhow it was the comical sites that got me.
while freeminds was a great tool i was more influenced by the bethel cartoons on the site.

Realized it wasn't "for me" in 96, but still basically believed until last year when a true friend broke it down for me how they are a cult or at least cultish. That's when I began my internet journey and wow! how nice to find out my inner voice was guiding me correctly, I'll never ignore it again! I've read so many sites it's impossible to say any one of them clinched the deal for me, even at first I was sort of resistant to the idea of exploring "apostate" teachings, as if a lightning bolt was gonna get me or something... My favorites are Beyond JW and Freeminds.org. Also I enjoy reading various sociological and psychological studies relating to the Witnesses.

That's nice that a ritual like that helped you feel free. I can see how that can happen. Are you part of a coven or are you a solitary? (Not sure if I have that right...) Anyway, good for you. I think that's cool... not sure if I really could believe in it, or anything really at this point.
I consider my baptism void because I now consider that religion to be invalid and irrelevant.

Hi RC, I can understand where you are coming from... sometimes the overbearing families can be hard to take. It's easier when you don't have to live with them, so make that your goal. Good luck to you and i hope it doesn't take longer than you can stand it to strike out on your own.
Freedom!

Back from the Memorial......Special Announcement at the end....
by ScoobySnax inthe special announcement read at the end was an invite for any interested ones (tm) to ask if they wanted a bible study.....and that a special meeting will be held next sunday in all the congregations worldwide, and an invite was given for all to attend.
i loved going and was good to see all the brothers and sisters again, the po who gave the talk made a bee line for me straight after the closing prayer, straight off the platform (i had to stand as there were no seats) and asked to speak to me, and directed me to the back of the hall, i thought here we go......jc convening shortly......but no he said the wt society in london had contacted him as i'd wrote them asking for the magazines, and he would be happy to drop by and had done, but never found me at home.
so we arranged a date for him to call next week.. the hall was packed, and from my standing point i had plenty of opportunity to have a scan about, despite being horrified that their were brothers there who were betting looking than even me ( in my newly bought outfit!

I don't know how this thread got so off track.... oh, yeah. Somebody wanted to give a pro-JW witness about the memorial...
About the memorial - yes I did go, but was seriously considering getting out of it by saying I was going with friends to a different one... they wouldn't buy that - I've got no witness friends!!!!
Anyway, it was great because this was the first time I could read the context of the scriptures they sited and know they were full of shit. Thanks to this board and other sites I've been reading lately. And this was the first time I could see so easily it wasn't about Jesus or observing anything, it was all about the visitors. Join us! Join us! Join us! Join us! Join us! So transparent. I can remember when it seemed like it should be a more emotional thing, but in reality it's stuffy, unemotional and very business like. Not a celebration at all.
And I completely agree with Mulan.... Let's get over it! I certainly aspire to that!

Scooby, It seems like you are losing your patience with some of us out here. I've seen posts on this board that affected me the same way as you are affected here, (people wishing to give physical violence on witnesses doing street work, etc.) and I wondered if I really fit in.
But people react to being disfellowshipped or losing their families in different ways. Some become more aggressive from this type of unfavorable treatment, but most are able to find other ways to deal. We are not "united in worship" out here. Just ordinary folks reaching out. Some of the old-timers out here have said they see a pattern with this, that eventually most people relax with the agression after a while, become less argumentative.
It's really hard to not argue about some things out here, and when you see something that seems like it doesn't represent what you stand for and what you think probably most everyone out here stands for, you want to say something, but I'm beginning to think it's not worth it. I don't get anything out of that but frustration. Just look for the good inspiring topics and hope you can carry something out of it.
