Memorial - What are people actually thinking during it?
by asleif_dufansdottir ini had posted some of this on another thread, when i thought it might be fun to have a thread of "what is actually going thru people's minds" when they are sitting there at the memorial...
"i don't care what mom says, i'm never going to this dumb thing again.
she could at least let me have my gameboy if she's going to make me come to these dumb things.

he gave a good talk ,this is one time he had to mention jesus but he did well not overstating the name.. he quoted the american standard version a few times except when he talked about john 3:16 then he used the new world translation.. i liked how they have a curtain up around a pretending window, that initself gave me food for thought.. the local priest has been attending the memorial over the years word has it when he retires he is going to become a jw.
a few people talked to me, all in all i guess it went well.

Which was scarier... the torture scenario or the Armageddon scenario?
by Gopher infor those of us who grew up in the jw's, there were a couple of scary scenarios presented, one supposedly to happen before armageddon, and armageddon itself.. before armageddon, all jw's were going to be chased around by worldly nations because they would be the only religion left on earth, satan's system having destroyed "babylon the great" (all religions outside jw's, we were told).
so as part of that, jw's would be persecuted worldwide for being religious and proclaiming the "kingdom".. now -- connect that with the actual persecution that happened to the jw's as documented in the annual "yearbook" and in the pages of the watchtower magazine.
sometimes the details of what happened to jw's when in confinement were quite graphic and frightening.

Armageddon scared me the most.I used to get so scared whenever there was a storm outside
the pictures in the paradise lost book helped perpetuate my fears that lasted long into adulthood.

Here I go again...
by Joysome ini read and take in a lot on this board.
but i have yet to see hard facts.
what are the actual beliefs of jw's that you have found are false and what is the basis for it?
-
galaxy7
The biggest false fact:
1:
The governing body is gods spokesman on earth
2: You need watchtower literature to study the bible, after all we are to stupid to read it without the watchtower
3:The Memorial everyone should partake
4: the changing dates and the lies about changing them
5.stopping the faithful sheep from researching their own religion
6 adding Jehovahs name to the new testement
7:changing scripture so that it matches the jw belief
8.prophesy that has never come true

Misconceptions of the GB
by Larry inwhat was your misconceptions about the gb?
here was one of mine, when folks would ask me why wasn't their any blacks on the gb.
i would say that the blacks weren't educated enough at the time (late 1800's - early 1900's) to govern a worldwide organization.
-
galaxy7
I know when I left in 1980 or so that it was still preached that blacks were hams decendants and blackness was a curse. That blacks were forever condemned as slaves and inferior.
Littlewitch, I never knew this.Is there anywhere I could look this up in their literature?
The more I learn here, the more I realize what I didnt know about the JWs
thanks,galaxy7

Watchtower Society Destroys Families!
by UnDisfellowshipped inrussian court bans jehovah's witnesses from moscow .

Thankyou for this post,I am copying it for my family .
Disfellowshiping is one of the cruelest things I know.
I find it hard to believe sometimes that there is such a lack of love in families that they would shun their children or parents
If they were told to jump off a cliff would they??Probably not, but they have complete disregard for the welfare of their loved ones.
I find it even harder to believe that someone would subject themselves to the silent treatment to get back in for more abuse
I would like to see a law where one could sue the organization for destroying the family ties

Whenever anything bad happens witnesses are in their glory saying "see the bible fortold it", they just love bad news.
The witnesses love being persecuted it makes their self esteem go up.
So I wont make your day by sayng anything mean
go with god
i will leave you with one thought though
ITS NOT THE TRUTH

The good in Jehovah's Witnesses.
by ScoobySnax ini don't think i've made any apology for my leanings here towards jws, whilst i don't imagine most here will agree with me, i just think its good sometimes to redress the balance on this forum in a small way to let people who might be reading/lurking/ know that.. despite feeling messed up a bit in my own head about which direction i want/have to take in my own life, and despite many struggles as deep and traumatic as many have experienced here, i still hold jws as a group in the highest esteem.
i can remember what it was like to try and do the "right" thing and follow the way of the truth, it was bloody hard, and i fell down many times.
i always used to try and pick myself up dust myself down and start over again, sometimes with success for longer periods than others.

I like some of them .I like my mother, sister, husband and other assorted witnesses close to me
but the fact is they do not have the the truth any more than any other religion

Genisis 24
the ten camels of abrahams servant and the prophetic signifigance:
this is brought up in the kingdom ministry it asks the question what does each person signify
the camels from what i figured out are supposed to represent the new world translation
If someone has the watchtower 1989 July1 page 27 it explains it ,alas i cant find mine.
I am just wondering how they come to these conclusions ,I read it and the 10 camels didnt represent anything other than camels to me.
