with no end in site in either country for maybe the next 10 years, do you think they could have avioded this and spent this elsewhere...can you imagine 900 billion spent on american healthcare or homeland security?

No, sadly they won't. CEO's in the USof A are for the most part exempt from any negative fallout. That exclusive club of Rich White Boys takes very good care of it's own. Bush and Cheney worked very hard to insure folks we don't even know exist made profits that we couldn't even dream of. They will be rewarded. Unless they f up too badly. I bet that bumbling idiot Bush gave them some fits though. Oh well, all's well that ends well. Senior Bush is probably still trying to apologize for his idiot son. "Damn, if I had only given then Jeb".!

That depends entirely on what types of companies you were invested in back in 2000 or 2001 ;) It hasn't just been a good investment for some Americans, it's been a great investment for some Americans.

My thoughts exactly. Very profitable for those who knew this was going to occur early on. It's a common theme in the Great Democracy.

i think it's only appropriate to put out a thread to thank simon for the great job he does in moderating this board, watching over discussions to make sure that the purpose of jwd discussion stays focused .

i believe that he and the mods do a great job in helping this board along in it's journey - and enables us to have the freedom of speech- without having fear of reprisal - as long as the guidelines are met.

so, i for one would like to personally thank you simon - for bringing this board into existence, as it has helped many to be able to vent after leaving the jehovah's witnesses cult, and get support, and for others it has helped them have a great place to discuss many important topics that have a heavy play in many of our lives !

Ugh, I'm kinda new here but nonetheless I'm throwing a shameless plug to Flippers Apostafest in South Lake Tahoe.

If you have never been there, you need to go. It's an old family hangout for us. It's everything he mentioned and more. I remember being there as a kid in my grandfathers, brothers cabin? a few trees away from the Lake. Phew. It's changed a bit in the last 50 years, but not really for the bad if one is just visitng. Bring your bikes, bring your kayaks, bring the hiking gear, running gear, fishing gear...secret how to win when gambling books. Cameras are required. Damn, bring your ski's...you might get lucky with an oddballstorm, in fact if you like to dance, best bring some dancing shoes...skiers are manic dancers, they are more manic when they can't ski. Of course some of the Casino's have GREAT live music.

Did I mention Tahoe is one of the clearest lakes in the world? Oh, and all you Bonanza lovers...the Ponderosa is just 15 minutes away. I know most are Ponderosa??? I couldn't resist though, my grandparents would approve of the plug.

Guaranteed good time folks.

I don't know about yall but over the last 8 years we have moved away from knocking & talking. So unless you have an Elder (who is not your relative) by your side all you do is 'rap' the door once, place a tract nearby & leave. Most of the studies are not from knocking but from personal acquaintances. Several are doing studies with weaker KH members.
Also if the pew report is correct, with us being one of the 'fastest' growing religions but lacking retention.....this means more & more householders have already had JW experience and qualify as apostate.

There you go, that explains why I rarely see Witnesses at my, and my neighbors doors.

You folks do know that whoever inherets this mess will have to conduct a paced drawdown. You cannot evacute the people and assets we have in theater in a week or two. There will be a rear guard to cover the exit in place.
I'd rather see a "bad" plan working in this case... instead of the "last man out" deal we did in VN.

I'm with you there, the "last man out" debacle in Vietnam was about as embarasing as the mess we made of that whole conflict.

The pullout in Iraq needs to proceed at a rapid pace though. We've meddled enough in Iraq's internal affairs for a generation or so.

There's always another hornets nest somewhere else we can stir up to keep our all knowing leaders entertained and give our troops the combat experience our generals so highly value.

So, you pack up and leave and wonder why, in 20-30 years time there is an oil-rich nation that wants to kick your ass for what you did to their country. Not that this is like your previous meddling in Iran at al ...

We Americans have a pretty poor track record when it comes to Foreign Policy. Heck, we can't even stop bickering among ourselves long enough to take a rational approach to Domestic Policy. When all of the posturing was going on prior to this idiocy I was dumbfounded. I just kept telling myself, "No, we aren't going to be that stupid...".

Let's not forget that the CIA backed Sadaam in his rise to power. We helped create the monster, we then killed the monster and the Iraqi citizens paid the price. Hell, we even dropped cluster bombs on those poor people. Good job. Bush did a bang up job of spreading his Christian message there.

I can't even begin to fathom how angry I would be if another Country invaded mine without provocation and proceeded to murder 10's of thousands of civilians around me. I'd darn well make sure my kids, my grandkids and anyone else who would listen remembered what had occured.

i'm new to the site and have been watching my husband (thechickennest) enjoy his time with his "freinds".

someone i work with told me that a witness told her the reason he came and talked to her was to save himself.
