We Have Wonderful People Here
by Sparkplug ini have to tell a story.. yesterday i begged my boss to let me leave work to go to reunion arena and try to find a child or a mom and child to take in.
then i bugged the heck out of six of nine to go with me because i was not sure what i was getting into and did not want to go alone...though i would have.. so we went to the store and bought 100 dollars of items.
well i went over budget and six paid another 100 for the rest of the items.

Excerpts from NBCs Red Cross telethon - Kanye shows courage in speaking out on what is on many of our minds.
Bleary One - if you are going to quote me, then do it accurately. I wrote as quoted above. Who am I speaking for? myself, friends, and in fact some on this board who agreed with his statement.Sounds like your reaction to my statement was the knee jerk.
Edited to add: While you may not agree with the views, the topic of class and race associated with this disaster is receiving widespread news coverage and debate. Here are just a few links from major news outlets. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9163091/ http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/09/03/katrina/main814623.shtml http://www.blacknews.com/pr/racecard101.html http://www.nationalreview.com/lowry/lowry200509021731.asp http://www.nationalreview.com/lowry/lowry200509021731.asp

I may paint my kitchen.
Laughing at tales and myself ... I so want to paint my bathroom ... envisioning it completed ... then picturing all the work to achieve that vision ... in all probability taking the lazy-ass-cuz-its-a-3-day-weekend route and continuing with the fantasy portion of this exercise.....
I don't care if it IS Labor Day Week-end, I hate to labor ...

Why do people hate Americans?
by dorayakii inmaybe the correct word is not "hate", but "distain" or "dislike"... .
many people were against the war in iraq and dilike president bush, has this had a baring on how people view americans?
when america flexes its military muscles how do you feel?

We do things over here that would probably get people shot or locked up in America.
This piqued my curiosity. What things would those be?
My opinion is Americans are hated for a number of reasons ... An image of wealth that is terribly imbalanced when compared with many in the world, a cowbow mentality and image perpetuated by our government and its actions throughout the world, a lifestyle that does not correlate with the morals and views of many other societies, a reputation of arrogance and superiority towards all those not American. There is an internal struggle to come in America as well, in fact I believe it has already begun ... at least half of us who vote do not agree with many things our government is doing. The results of our government's actions in recent years are beginning to permeate the nation and affect citizens more visibly and broadly ... I believe that this will foment change. I cling to that belief, actually ... if it doesn't take place I despair for my country.

Okay Sara, fair enough - maybe I did misconstrue your point.
But here was my line of reasoning ... Kanye states Bush doesn't care about black people. My view, as posted, was Kanye speaks the truth. You post that he said "Bush hates black people" and that it didn't ring of truth. First off, you didn't quote him correctly, and you disagreed with his point. I continued on using Kanye's word care to offer a comparison of caring leaders, since you made the correlation between care and hate.
No, you're right - I don't see where you said you supported Bush. But your opposition to Kanye's statement in my view implied it. My main point was to recognize Kanye's statements, however inarticulate, as representing the truth from many American's point of view.
Sorry if my interpretation of our exchange was off the mark.

Katrina Aftermath - whatever happened to personal responsibility?
by EscapedLifer1 inok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.
there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.
i have a few questions about this mindset:.

stilla!excuse me but don't our tax dollars go to our government to ensure that when the time comes (read *DISASTROUS HURRICANE AND FLOODING* here), they will have a freaking plan of attack that doesn't include thousands of people baking for five days in the sun before they are provided water? food? medical care for injured and infirm?
I'm sorry but in this case it IS the government's responsibility. Otherwise, as someone else said above, let me keep my god*da*ned tax money ...
