Yes they can, even if the funeral is in a church. In fact they can serve as pallbearers.

Can JW's attend Funerals for ex Jw's?
by ThomasCovenant inthere was a funeral for an ex elder recently.
out of about 150 attending the service only 5 jw's who weren't immediate family attended.
this is because the ex elder was viewed as 'turning his back on big j'.

Why Did Adam & Eve Need An Immune System???
by enlightenedcynic inhere is a question i would like answered intelligently if possible.
i asked my wife and another brother during an informal gathering of friends and was given the typical "wait till the new system, jehovah will answer all questions" response.
for the last year or so i began to seriously doubt the existence of a "loving, caring god".

So immune system is God's gift of grace against consequences Sin created.
Don’t think so. Before sinning and becoming imperfect man’s immune system was perfect and prevented ALL disease perfectly. All of God’s creation including germs and bacteria, etc.. is with a purpose although we may not understand the purpose. The purpose of germs and bacteria was not to make us sick but to perform some other function that God intended. Problem for us is that having imperfect immune systems Germs and bacteria are also wreaking havoc on mankind.

Question for Ex Elders... Field Service
by zeroday inbehind the scenes, how did the elder body view field service.
were they enthusiastic about it, viewed it as necessary to maintain their position or just indifferent about it.
in my 28 years inside i know of only one elder that had the pioneer spirit and actually pioneered when he retired.

I think it would be impossible for anyone to answer the question of how do elders (as a group) feel about field service. No one I know has interviewed all of the elders. My gut feel though would be that elders have a variety of viewpoints about their personal field service.
My observations have been that some elders are rarely in field service (apathy?); some are in service regularly for the “right” reasons while others are there for socialization. I used to go in service with an elder who almost always ran personal errands and counted the time as field service.

An interesting article quote from the guy who confessed to killing JonBonet
by Check_Your_Premises injonbenet's body was found in the basement of the ramsey home in boulder, colorado, early on the morning of december 26. karr told reporters in bangkok that he was with jonbenet in the basement when she died.
but lara karr's attorney, michael rains, said his client "sincerely believes there was no christmas ... anytime between 1989 and 2000 when they were married ... when her husband was not with her and her family at christmastime.
ok, speculation alert... you all know where i am going with this.

My opinion at present is that Karr is a whacko that is admitting guilt for a crime he did not commit. His admission of guilt is not enough to convict him of the crime. There has to be hard evidence tying him to the crime scene. If the palm print the police have is his then that is (IMO) irrefutable proof of his guilt, as would any of his DNA found at the crime scene. Lacking this type of hard evidence coupled with his ex-wife's statement the he was with her when the crime was committed gets him off the hook regardless of what he says he did.
I also wouldn't make too much of the fact the he was infatuated with Jon Bonet since he has a "problem" with regard to sexual fantasies (and maybe forays) with children.

I was 19 when an elder came on to me
by Mistah MOJO ini was a nineteen year old kid when a jw elder in his late fifties came on to me.
i was going through some awful stuff and dropped by his mobile home for spiritual counsel and a listening ear.
he answered the door in skivvies and a t-shirt.

The boy (being fatherless) had no status in the hall at all, and so everyone just ignored him
I guess some are more equal than others.
Also it would have been the boy's word against the elder's word. Guilt based on accusation only is a scary proposition.

Will You React With Prejudice?
by Jamaican JW inwill you react with prejudice when faced with "absolute truth?
sometimes, an irrefutable "truth" can be spoken.
and yet, this statement or fact of "truth" can be glossed over or dismissed or not recognized by the community at large, because of preconceived ideas taught us and engrained in us, from our previous upbringing or training.

Which means Jesus Christ would have been produced in some fashion or form, by God's Heavenly Organization of angels...a supposition that quite frankly directly contradicts the facts themselves, as the bible makes quite clear
Well, just because Jesus created all the angels doesn’t mean he would not have been part of their group. It was the group that produced Jesus, which is not the same as the group creating Jesus.
how can we say that a perfect man, Jesus...one who was above sin in fact -- how can we say that Jesus came from Adam and Eve? Can we say this?
Of course we can say Jesus came from Adam and Eve, through Mary. He was sinless because Jehovah is his father and not some fleshly man (Joseph).

Do you regret obeying the rules?
by ButtLight ini was talking to my sister tonight.
the elders made a threat to her that if she didnt tell the truth whether my mom was smoking or not, they would df her.
so she turned her in!.

If a rule goes "Beyond What Is Written" or is something "Added To" what is written then I don't believe Jehovah requires you to obey it. So, I don't regret not following man made rules.

If there is no hell what is this?
by Rooster in"but a certain man was rich, and he used to deck himself with purple and linen, enjoying himself from day to day with magnificence.
but a certain beggar named laz arus used to be put at his gate, full of ulcers 21
and desiring to be filled with the things dropping from the table of the rich man.
-

Maybe this was one of the many illustrations Jesus used. Notice how it starts with a "certain rich man"? The doctrine of a burning hell where the wicked are eternally tortured makes God into some kind of a monster. Just my opinion.

Do you look your age?
by Virgochik inhow many of you guys are like me?
raised in the truth, (or joined later), but here we are, finding ourselves in our thirties, forties, or fifties....and the end hasn't come.
we were never supposed to get this old!.

I don't think I look my age (I certainly feel younger). However, when I tell others how old I am they don't bat an eye lash.
