The betraying of confidential matters by elders was the single biggest factor in my starting down the road of distrusting the whole WTS arrangement. How can the WTS expect its’ members to trust the elder arrangement when they won’t police it? How many long-time JWs will willingly confess their sins to the elders? I think it is only the new and naive ones

Confidential Elders meetings, HA!
by restrangled inmy father was and elder and i remember him coming home from elder's meetings telling my mother all.
we lived in a small house so all could hear through the heating vents what was happening at the kh.
i learned more than i ever cared to know about at a young age.

Witnesses cannot refute the real "TRUTH"
by integ inno matter what any pompass ass witness says about the religion being the "truth", they cannot refute the simple fact that nothing they have ever predicted has come true.
that's a pretty poor record for gods' chosen people.
oh sure they can point to lame obvious things such as " critical times getting harder to deal with" (even that is debatable), but no hard facts to point to that show they are right, or have ever been.

In 1942, Nathan Knorr gave the speech 'Peace, can it last?’ Using Revelation chapter 17, he predicted that the League of Nations would rise again. He specifically said that this new organization would rise after WWII. This came true.
Yes, but at the time Knorr gave his speech it was public knowledge that plans to form another organization such as the League of Nations were under way. So the WTS’ prediction was an educated and calculated one.
On the topic of “truth” I once incurred the ire of the TMS overseer by saying that facts were the truth and that Jehovah was a God of facts. Anything other than facts are speculations that may or may not be true.

I ride a bicycle 300-400 miles a month, all on rails-to-trails. IMOP anyone who rides a bicycle on the streets is living on borrowed time,

District Convention Resolution?
by TheListener ini've seen some threads here on the dcs this year but i don't remember reading about a resolution that may have been passed.
i saw this on another discussion board and have no idea if it's accurate or not.
it is posted that this occurred on sunday during the last talk.

7. Be determined to resist spirit of the world; not getting involved in chat rooms, Materialism, Entertainment, Drunkenness, Pornography."
Does this mean that they were involved in Materialism, Entertainment, Drunkenness, Pornography? Otherwise why affirm that they would not get involved in these things?

WTS says no confession to men necessary
by TheListener ini ran across this the other day and it caught my eye.. w85 12/1 pp.
6-7 righteousness before god
neither catholic nor protestant "justification".

and there's no public announcement - even for mass murder - the confession is sacred
Would this mean that Child Molesters that are Catholics are not reported to the police when this sin is confessed to a priest? If true, it sounds to me that the Catholic Church is worse than the WTS.

Really serious question!
by 5thGeneration indrifting away is one thing.
i'm curious if anyone has written a letter (not a disassociation letter) that simply told their friends and loved ones that you don't really believe a lot of it anymore and blah, blah, blah.. or is it better to shut up and just never show up again.. problem is my wife says if i want to leave that i have to fess up and tell people.
ouch!.

Wives say a lot of things. As to writing letters explaining that you no longer believe all the WTS teaches you would only be providing ammunition for your eventual DFing.

JWs believe the beast is the world wide political system that has been in existence for centuries. When a person has the mark of the beast it means that they look to the governments of man to solve our problems rather then to God’s Kingdom. The “666” being on a person’s forehead denotes a mental support for the government’s of man over the Kingdom of God. “666” being on one’s palm symbolizes one working to support the political system (donations, etc.).

Let cut JWs some slack on Christ's status. They might be right.
by Spectrum inthe alternative light i have received regarding early christianity has made me wonder whether jws have unwittingly got it right regarding the status of jesus.
a lot of strong criticism is made on this forum about jws sidelining of jesus in preference for jehovah the jewish god.
they have been equated with judaism because of their lack of inclusion of christ in their worship as well as their draconian code of expected conduct.

Gumby, this statement confuses me:
2. Again, who said Jesus is not made out of whatever god is made out of?
How could God be "made" out of anything? This implies a maker who made God as well as a maker of the substance of which God is. God must not be a substance that we can understand. Actually the substance of God is God himself and it as well as him have always been. God having always been is understandable in the context of existence outside the realm of time (God created the physical universe and our concept of time).

Latest Adventure At The Hall
by ColdRedRain intoday, i made up my mind to be as big of an ass as possible at the meeting so they force me out rather than to whimper on my own and let the jw's say that "maybe he wasn't right for it afterall".
so first thing i did was i loaded up on liquid courage.
second thing i did was wore my "kiss my ass" t-shirt.

ColdRedRain, you did a lot of things today. All of the things you did take a lot of Bravado. Will you be going back to that Kingdom Hall? If someone in my congregation did all the things you did, they would be thrown out on their ear if they came back. How do you get away with it?

My Questions about the US.
by ballistic inmy god, there's going to be so many - so rather than spam the board, i'll put them all here... any help appreciated.. .
what is the best mobile phone (cell phone) to buy when you arrive in the us that has coverage right from the east to west coast and central regions?
the phone itself will get ditched after the trip, i just need one that's cheap to use.

Speaking of Dallas you'll love it if you like big cites located in the middle of very hot flat plain. The worst thunderstrorm I ever saw was in the Dallas Fort Worth area. My reccommendation is spend one or two days in Dallas and then move on to the real scenary.
