Tepic, Don Cameron has written a book titled Captives of a Concept that addresses the hold the WTS? FDS doctrine has on JWs. I have read the book and believe it to be, in its? own way, as enlightening as the book Crisis of Conscience. This is not an expensive book and can be obtained (hard copy or download). If you are interested, visit www.captivesofaconcept.com . I believe that anyone who reads this book will find it quite worth their while. FairMind

Strictly speaking, those who are officially to be shunned are the disfellowshipped and disassociated ones. What about child visitation rights for a DF/DA person? That?s really a legal matter. If I was a DF/DA person and my legal visitation rights were infringed upon, I would be suing someone. It is also good to keep in mind that a grandparent has certain legal visitation rights as well. Will they ever be mainstream?
by Justin insome religions which have been on the fringe of society are eventually accepted into the mainstream because they have an aspect which is socially acceptable or beneficial to society.
for example, the seventh day adventists have hospitals and the mormons have the tabernacle choir.
but the jws seem to have nothing with which to appeal to the larger culture.

Adding to what eyeslice said, I don?t believe the GB would be swayed at all by the possibly of dwindling assets (financial or otherwise). They already have more than they?ll ever need. Some of the younger JWs at Bethel (especially the lawyers) might be concerned but it is still the GB who ultimately calls the shots. FairMind

by slimboyfat in.
i heard from my bethel contact that the magazines are to be published monthly from 2006 and 2007. only 12 mags a year, but 46 pages each with no colour illustrations.has anyone else heard about this cut back?
i also heard there is to be a new song book in the summer so that witnesses no longer sing about "sheep and goats" and other "old light".

If both the Awake and WT become monthly then that will be twice as many of these magazines I don?t read. OMG, what will I do with the extra time?

Hello, I need a few JW views on a couple of bible verses. Thanks!

Hey Chance and pericusmeus, you both put up persuasive arguments. I mostly agree with pericusmeus, which makes sense, as I too am a JW. However, I think I have an open mind and I have heard much argument both for Jesus being GOD and for him being what he said he was God’s son. Maybe pericusmeus is right in that being right or wrong doctrinally (including this doctrine) is not as important as one might think. Love really is the identifying mark of true Christians.
Pericusmeus said that the universe has no limits, no center, so how can God be contained? This is a way of thinking I do find fault with (sorry pericusmeus). God existed before the universe existed and it was he who created the universe. This must mean he exists outside of the universe, perhaps in a place called Heaven. It also would mean that whatever size the universe is, it is irrelevant as to whether or not God can be contained (which he can’t be, of course).

Unforgivable Sin?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini seem to remember back in my jw days, a scripture that said something to the effect that if you publicly denounce jehover, you would never be forgiven of it?
i really want to bring this up to my ever-persistant family as a good reason for me not to come back to meetings and try to be reinstated.
i have already told them that i will never, ever, ever come back, that i don't even believe in god per-se.

Blondie showed how the WTS would like for us to believe that sinning against the Holy Spirit is to reject them as Jehovah’s appointed ones. There must be certain actions that qualify as sinning against the Holy Spirit or this sin wouldn’t be mentioned in the Bible. Whatever these sins are they are most assuredly not the disagreeing with the WTS GB.

The future of printed newspaper, do you read them.?
by one infacts to consider
internet advertising seem to be getting stronger again.
presen economic situation for newspaper is not bright, they include the new york times, boston globe international, herald tribune gannett co., (100 newspapers including usa today), ew scripps (21 newspapers) dow jones & co./the wall street journal.

I think that paper newspapers will eventually have very limited readership as more people become familiar with and have access to the Internet. I even believe that local weekly newspapers will be replaced by websites that report local news. The age of paper, be it in the communication industry or financial industry, is on the decline.

Annointed: yearly figures
by DaCheech in.
is it my imagination.... or did the numbers of "annointed" partaking in the lords evening meal go up by 5 people this year?.
what explanation can make any sense at all about this?
-
FairMind
Triple A, thanks for the chart! I know a fair amount of effort went into compiling these numbers. I started to do the same thing a couple of years ago but did not have the patience to dig for all the figures (especially the older numbers). I copied your chart into an excel spreadsheet for personal reference.

Armageddons coming.

Back in the middle to late 1970’s after I had been removed as an elder and become pretty much inactive I had an Armageddon scare. A US military rocket had released a gas filled balloon at about 100 miles altitude. It was approaching twilight as the balloon burst and caused a spectacular display of spreading brightness. I, by chance, was looking skyward when this happened and I almost swallowed my heart, thought that I has just witnessed the sign of the son of man appearing in the heavens. FairMind
