Scientology really is a lot like the JW's
by dissed inat the edge of arid foothills far outside los angeles, hundreds of scientology followers live on a gated, 500-acre campus and work long hours for almost no pay reproducing the works of founder l. ron hubbard and creating the church's teaching and promotional materials.. the church says its 5,000 so-called sea organization members are religious devotees akin to monks who are exempt from wage requirements and overtime.
but two lawsuits filed by two former sea org members, as they are known, allege the workers are little more than slave laborers, forced to work 100-hour weeks for pennies and threatened with manual labor if they cause trouble.. i don't feel the wt's bethel is quite this bad,...... but it's not far from it.
(as one who used to work there says) lol.

Do you believe in reincarnation?
by TastingFreedom inreincarnation, literally "to be made flesh again", is the belief that the soul, after death of the body, comes back to earth in another body.
according to one belief, a new personality is developed during each life in the physical world, but the soul remains constant throughout the successive lives.[1].
belief in reincarnation has ancient roots.

I think that there is something to it, but I don't like to give it a lable or confine it to a set belief.

Do we have any rights to see corespondance from the branch?
by allelsefails ini have a friend who is an elder from out of town and he told me i do have the right to see any letters the branch has sent to the congregation about my case.
i always thought they tied that stuff up tight and nobody could see it.
is he right or just deluding himself that this might be a fair and upfront system?.

The "move away" Fade
by jacquicortez inlooking back there were quite a few families that did the "oh we're moving" fade.
they would move to a rural area.
or a state or two away.

This is how I accidentally faded. I moved, then moved again and had a time consuming hobby and worked full time. It sucked still being a believer though.

I've lived in Washington State all my adult life, but I was born in Menomonie. After my family became JWs, went to the Menomnie hall.
What time of year are most wisconsin Postafests held? That sounds like a must attend event, I'm thinking like Oktoberfest but early summer.

Extremeism of any sort is scary. Interesting conversation.
I'm a little dissapointed that there were no Otters riding Ostriches in this thread.

Sorry for those who may be annoyed with someone digging in ancient history...
I have taken the Meyer's -Briggs 3 times over the course of a few weeks. I am an INFJ, my F is closely balanced with T.
I am an extreme Introvert.
I have always been highly Intuitive.
Feeling vs Thinking.
Judging.
So, these lables have specific meaning as far as Meyers and Briggs were concerned when they created the test. Basically it helps a person understand how they think, process information, relate to others, relate to themselves.

I'm stunned. Was going to post a field of flowers, but I'm using FireFox. I didn't know him well, but what I knew of him, from brief interactions, was that he is a very loving soul.

"Created": Are we artificial life forms?
by cameo-d inif we are created beings and not a product of a natural evolution of something....and since we are told that we are created beings...... does this make us an artificial life form?.
and what exactly would an artificial life form be intended for by its creator?.

by SnakesInTheTower inso i have been having problems with the renters that moved in next door.
the last 3 months have been a living hell.
i have an ongoing complaint with the slumlord that owns the property and the city is taking him to court for derelict vehicles next week (which i anonymously complained about, but i am sure i am being blamed for).

I think Ip_SEC and Satanus have the best advice, for YOU. All the advice given here is good for varying situations. Don't get a restraining order; the neighbor is already the type to ignore that anyway, and I agree it would only serve to provoke. I'd usually say get a concealed weapon and learn to use it well, but again in this situation that will not do you good: only serve to make YOU a criminal and if you can't use it swiftly and deliberately when needed, it will only serve to endanger YOU. You already know that moving is the best option, but untill then, I would try to not interact with him in ANY way possible, and even that can set this type of character off. Goodness or kindness can not be shown to this type of animal, he will see it as weekness, and"guilt" for whatever perceived insult you have given him. My thoughts are with you, I pray for your safety.
