I think some people do pump it up some, but then again, everyone's experience with the borg was different. My most negative borg experiences are what I did and felt about myself, I am my own worst critic. So, even though I didn't have problems with the elders or other stuff, I can see how other people did. And looking back from this view I know stuff now about my former elders that if I'd known then would have caused problems.

Are we too cynical?
by Princess Daisy Boo inis it a good thing to look for fault in everything the borg does?
.
are we clutching at straws sometimes in our efforts to strengthen our fight and fuel our anger?.

Beating Fear
by joelbear69 inpat robertsons doom and gloom forecast for 08 (his 07 forecast that the us would be hit by a major terrorist attack was incorrect).
reminded me so much of the watchtower's constant doom messages: definitely rule by fear.
if you do this you will be destroyed, so will your kids.. if you do this you will be disfellowshipped and lose all your friends and family.. if you don't go out in service you will be marked as bad association.. and of course every natural or man made disaster meant the end was coming soon soon soon.. it takes a lot of effort to overcome the fear paralysis instilled in us by the watchtower.. and it doesn't just go away and stay away, conquering fear is not a one time event, it is instead.

I'm still working on unwiring the fear programs, it gets really tiring and depressing. Fear and negativity are my main issues I think.
I can smile around people and talk a positive game, but internally is where I need to change. What also bothers me is that I can give people advice or tell them what i see might be an issue, but i can't seem to do that for myself. The season also tends to get me down, being all burnt out on the rush and hurry, darker and wetter, birthday comes right after christmas and that always seems to put my moods in a downcycle too. I'd feel better if I had my own place not in the city, where I could garden and just sit outside and relax, meditate, be content.

I used to ride with my cousins on their farm in WI, through the fields or on the snomobile trails.
Here in WA I like to just drive on the logging roads up in the mountains. I don't like the tear shit up kind of 4x4, I like to go where there are few or no people or its difficult to get to. Lots of places here to go dig up rocks or pan for gold. I like the peace and quiet.

Confidential Body of Elder Letters from 1981 through 2006
by Elsewhere inhere it is guys.
this is what darth frosty was talking about in his post the other day (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/149460/1.ashx).
this is a collection of confidential letters from the watchtower society that were sent to the bodies of elders in the years 1981 through 2006. these are the letters that you were never meant to see or read.. there's all sorts of information in them ranging from the boring and mundian to instructions about how to handle child molesters.. many thanks to darth frosty and others (who i'm not sure can be named) who worked very hard and took risks to collect and scan the information.

A Holiday Gift to JWD, from Scully & Friends
by Scully ini have been working on this little project for quite some time, and it's finally ready to share with all of you... just in time for the holidays!.
this project entailed converting scans of hard copies of public talk outlines into pdf format and then compiling all of them into zip folders.
there are over 150 documents in total, complete with update notices from brooklyn.

Ok, two questions: 1.) I haven't worked with zip files since Win98, do I still neet to download an unzip program, or will Xp natively unzip the files?
2.) Somebody mentioned BOE letters, where is the link to download those? (Is there a link?)
I am thankful to those with the resources and time to put this stuff out there, like Skully wrote, we need this info for when history is edited.

Take a deep breath and let it out. Do that again. One more time. Anger can motivate you, but the long term affects only hurt you.
As for working on your family-the JW adults-that would be an exercise in futility, they are solid in their beliefs and you can't help them.
The children on the other hand, can be helped. Just hold them and love them, tell them what is going on, maybe even warn them what the JWs will say and do. When they're old enough, they can choose to leave, but only if they know that they can do that, if they know that that is a possible option and that its up to them in part. If they know that you or their mother (?) are waiting for them and will be supportive, if they can resist the Borg teachings, then they will be ok. Giving them tools to use to resist the borg, in an unconfrontational way, is crucial. Why unconfrontational? Because they're children, with adults in authority over them, there would be nothing gained by making the kids fight the fight, why make their life harder than it already is. Silent resistance.

Climate Change. Yes the science is settled.
by mavie inthe science is settled.
special interests do not want you to think that it is.
"in a candid memo about political strategy for republican leaders, pollster frank luntz expressed concern that voters might punish candidates who supported more pollution, but he offered advice on the key tactic for defusing the issue: "should the public come to believe that the scientific issues are settled, their views about global warming will change accordingly.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr SCIENCE IS NEVER SETTLED. Even somethings as "settled" as Newtonian Mechanics gave way to quantum mechanics
StillaJw- I like that, "Science is never settled".

Which church?
by faundy ini don't feel comfortable living as an atheist.
i believe the world is far to complex and humans are too incredible to have just occurred.
therefore, if i was to attend a church, which one should i consider?

Believe nothing (be flexible, question everything)
no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it,
(pretty much all external data not directly observed) unless it agrees with
your own reason and your own common sense. (but even then be open to question, its ok to change your mind.)
-Buddha (I don't know if he actually said that, but I think its still valid)

I am not convinced of the "Truth" of evolution either, sure populations change, but how did it start off? Is that one of the things that's bugging you?
Also, the big bang is more of a universe-physics thing than a biology thing. I don't see why a creator couldn't use a process like that.
I am not an atheist, but I can't see myself as a theist either. I'm not sure what to tell you to help you out, except don't get frustrated by lack of information.
