"Congratulations" - WHY?
by Prisca inwhy is it a social custom to say "congratulations" to a guy when his wife/gf has had/is having a baby?.
what has he done to deserve the sentiments?
all he's done is have an orgasm and spurt some semen into her?

Speaking as one who has gone through childbirth and not easy births at that, I have to speak on behalf of the men here. I think maybe it is like the grass always looks greener on the other side. But men deal with 9 months of irritable, emotionally irrational females. That is not necessarily an easy task either. Not to mention the worry they go through as their loved one goes through the birth.
A child is the begining of a family. Not just a mother and child. So when a child is born, it is the celebration for all involved with this new life. Mother and father become parents. This is a gift to both.
I give extra commendations for the men who go beyond what some do. Some will let the woman get up everytime the baby cries, change all the diapers, etc.. but there are those special men who share with those sleepless nights, who rock their babies to sleep...

Does the average witness still believe in Armageddon?
by czarofmischief ini havent' been to kingdom hall in over a year, and i haven't talked to any dubs other than my parents for three years now.
i was wondering if anybody still had any contacts in the truth and how the average dub is feeling about the immediacy of armageddon?.
i remember growing up that this was an omnipresent motivation, especially when the whole "peace and security" thing happened in the early nineties, and we were expecting "sudden destruction" after the collapse of the soviet union.. but safe to say, i'm not worried about armageddon anymore - and i was wondering what the feeling was in the congregations.... czar

if they are still attending meetings, they think the end is closer than ever. I had people upset I left because they said it is too close to the end to waste time out of the org...

things that make you go AGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!
by lurk inkingdom melodies did it for me everytime.. i tired so hard not to have uncharitable thoughts about the ppl who wrote the tunes and words to the kingdom melodies.
there were about 2 that i could stomach.. the rest were so totally uninspiring and mechanical.. .i can say that apart from maybe 2 i didnt get any up lifting joy from them.. elders complained that ppl wern't learning the tunes and singing properly.they got realy irritated over it .but i really really hate the dam songs .
eveyone sounded totally joyless

Now it's wrong to sweep up!!!
by petespal2002 inat a meeting last thursday night, so i'm reliably informed, a brother was sweeping up outside the kh as he always does every meeting.
on this occasion however, he was taken to one side by an elder, told it was not his place to sweep the front of the hall, and to go back to a neighbouring congregation as he is "not wanted here!".
maybe only the super-righteous can sweep in public and the rest of us slosh out the latrines!!!!!!!!!

Did I get the wrong Christmas Ornaments?
by Elsewhere ini have a small tree so i got a package of small ornaments that are about 2 inches in diameter.
when i bought them i did not notice that the tops do not have hooks like i expected, instead they have very small loops.
these loops are too small to slide on to the branches of the tree, so am i supposed to use little twist-ties or something?

Couple of days before Christmas, looked at some mags and New Light! Took the wrapped gifts from the spare bedroom, put under tree & Merry Cozy Christmas! (I don't tell anyone who's not an xjw about this - they just wouldn't understand.)
ok.. I feel silly because I don't know what that means..
I remember when SimpleSally told me about someone buying a tree for the first time and she said that person didn't know what a flocked tree was. She was saying.. can you imagine, not knowing what flocked means? and she giggled a little as she said it to me... I said.. what is a flocked tree? I didn't know! So she had to tell me!
Last night I was looking at ornaments.. I see what Elsewhere meant. I see only the loops on the end of the ornaments but I didn't see hooks for sale any where.. Elsewhere, did you find any hooks yet?? Shouldn't those things be sold with the ornaments?

I saw the news and the cars and a bus standed in the deep water.. and then the white stuff on the ground in higher ground areas. I thought wow... who would have thought LA could be white on the streets!
