Have you noticed an oddity at indoor conventions?
by truth_about_the_truth inevery time i've attended a dc in an indoor arena, i 've noticed a u.s. flag hanging on the rafters or somewhere prominently displayed.
of course it is a permanent fixture of the arena.
anyways, since national flags are symbols of idolatry.

The Old International assemblies
by pratt1 ini remember back in the lat 60's earlier 70's the international conventions.
i thought they were great and we always had dubs from around the world who would stay at our house for the assembly.. .
one of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .. .

The first point made is showing how through letters, tracts, personal testimony, the WTS tried to ameliorate their relationship with the Nazi government by pointing out that the WTS agreed with the German government that the US and UK were evil governments, controlled by the Jews. Basically, that the WTS and the Nazi government had common enemies and that the WTS supported the overall goals of the Nazi government to bring about better conditions for humans. From the JW 1934 Yearbook, page 134-5, these are excerpts of a letter sent to Hitler by the WTS, penned by Rutherford:
The greatest and the most oppressive empire on earth is the Anglo-American empire. By that is meant the British Empire, of which the United States of America forms a part. It has been the commercial Jews of the British-American empire that have built up and carried on Big Business as a means of exploiting and oppressing the peoples of many nations. This fact particularly applies to the cities of London and New York, the stronghold of Big Business. This fact is so manifest in America that there is a proverb concerning the city of New York which says: The Jews own it, the Irish Catholics rule it, and the Americans pay the bills.
The present government of Germany has declared emphatically against Big Business oppressors and in opposition to the wrongful religious influence in the political affairs of the nations. Such is exactly our position.
Instead of being against the principles advocated by the government of Germany, we stand squarely for such principles, and point out that Jehovah God through Christ Jesus will bring about the full realization of these principles and will give to the people peace and prosperity and the greatest desire of every honest heart.
A careful examination of our books and literature will disclose the fact that the very high ideals held and promulgated by the present national government are set forth in and endorsed and strongly emphasized in our publications and show that Jehovah God will see to it that these high ideals in due time will be attained by all persons who love righteousness[?]

They CHOSE TO DIE...serving Rutherford and the WTBTS. Millions never had this opportunity to choose. They died in their millions not knowing anything else. If you want to die for a cause ...no matter how stupid it is don't come whining to me for sympathy.

Does anyone know if this is playing on any of the Canadian Networks? I'd really like to watch it.
I watched it on PBS at 9:00 on wed night. I think it will be on next wed at same time.My wife (good dub) said she just could not watch it knowing how many"brothers" suffered and died during this time.
What a crock. All this compassion for a thousand or so dubs that died. They were stupid enough to follow Rutherford into "battle" against hitler only after Rutherford's efforts to appease hitler failed.
In the mean time tens of thousands...hundreds of thousands.. of other innocent people were being gassed and murdered by hitler. True dub...only feels sorry for their own kind.

Do they still do that? It's probably to "encourage" you to keep going and not give it up.
Never did really enjoy it and always did my parts at the last minute.

three representatives from wts, a district overseer and two circuit overseers delivered a symposium that brought an abrupt end for all jw?s working in the tobacco industry (whether selling cigarettes, manufacture, tobacco machinery, etc.

There was a small mom & pop corner store owned by a witness couple in my town. A large part of their business was selling tobacco products as did all small corner stores to survive.
They were given the ultimatum to quit selling tobacco or be DF'ed. They felt they could not quit as they were older and this was all they knew how to do to make a living. They were both DF'ed.
The local newspaper got hold of the story and ran it with a very sympathetic viewpoint to the couple and highly critical of the bOrg.The bOrg did far more harm than good for themselves by their jack booted approach to this couple.
The couple kept a copy of the newspaper article taped to the inside of their front door for a few years after that.I am sure it kept all the dub's from calling and served as a further witness? to all the community.

I can't get a straight answer
by Glofishy incan anyone tell me if the organization believes that when a married spouse is addicted to pornography, they are actually cheating?
i mean cheating in the sense that the "innocent" spouse can then declare that they are victims of adultery, and be free to marry again?
i looked around their website and found nothing that specifically stated that it is considered cheating.

I called their media relations office to ask them, but the gentleman on the line referred me to the same excerpts from Awake publications that didn't provide an answer.
I think the problem is that..as usual they never consulted the bible.

JWs can get an "unscriptural divorce" but they can't remarry or else they're fornicating
If you get an unscriptural divorce that means that you cannot remarry because that would be fornicating...
HOWEVER....if you and the X decided to get together for a quickie after your not recognized unscriptual divorce you would also be DF'ed for fornicating. I believe that is still the policy so....you are screwed if you do and screwed if you don't.
