I used to be nervous that perhaps someone would recognize me from one of the bars I used to go to. I'm a double-lifer, and I used to do some binge drinking and even some smoking. I've stopped drinking now, but before I would actually wear large sunglasses just to try and conceal my identity.

Were You Ever Comfortable Going From House To House?
by minimus inbecause i was raised a witness, i don't think i was "uncomfortable" knocking on strangers' doors.
(weirdo).. but as i got older, i simply didn't want to bother anyone so i was at there door for no more than 30 seconds.
at the end i hated being there..

At 1 Samuel 6:19 where Jehovah killed 70 people just for looking at the Ark of the Covenant when it went by. Even if presumably they would evenually be resurrected, in my opionion this was a gross disrespect for human life by a god who supposedly is fair.
"But God struck down some of the men of Beth Shemesh, putting seventy [1] of them to death because they had looked into the ark of the LORD. The people mourned because of the heavy blow the LORD had dealt them." - 1 Sam 6:19 [NIV]

Actually, I have a sort of gift which I am very thankful for - I have the ability to actually play back music in my head! Any music I've been listening to previously (from a record album, CD, etc.), I can literally play the music back in my brain. This has been an invaluable mechanism I have used to cope with being stuck at the Kingdumb Hall. I can play music even if it is from a record album I haven't listened to in quite a few years, and the sound is perfect quality. This is no joke - I can actually do this. (Not quite one of those "gifts of the spirit" like speaking in tongues or something, but sure is a gift to me.)
I often wonder if anyone else can and does this.
For quite a while I used to pay attention to every word, but now, after discovering a "different take" on the whole thing, now I can use the time for my own little relaxation get-away. (I also have the ability to take quick naps in my chair.)
I have to go to a 2-day Grand Boasting Session this weekend, and this ability will certainly come in handy!

Authoritarian. You had better hope that someone like Osama bin Laden or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi never gets on board the Governing Body. Then you would probably find six million JWs bowing with their faces right down to the ground several times a day, and I think the old ?theocratic warfare? would be kicked up a wee notch.

Circuit Overseer's Talk: " We need 5 meetings a week and weekly mags"
by truthseeker inat the circuit overseer's talk last week he made the comment that some "of the friends" are finding it difficult to move ahead with jehovah's organization (tm).
the co said that a few had asked, "is it necessary to have 5 meetings a week, and a magazine every other week?".
"couldn't we do without one meeting a week, and have monthly editions of the watchtower?

They also need the literature and five meetings for the donations.
Well, don?t you see? They really do need the donations so that they are able to produce more literature and keep the meetings going, so that they can get more donations so that they are able to produce more literature and keep the meetings going, so that they can get more donations so that they are able to produce more literature and keep the meetings going, so that they can get more donations so . . . . well, you get the idea.
Gee, I guess with all those donations, they would have no trouble giving all their volunteers a lifetime supply of teeth whitening strips to keep up that famous ?Bethel smile.?

The only sand was on property owned by the Catholic priest, and he wouldn't sell to the brothers. A storm came up and washed the sand from the priest's land to where it was available to the friends. The project was completed
I wonder if that ?storm? that came up was a ?storm? of those magazine-bearing locusts of Revelation . . . . except this time, instead of bearing magazines, it was shovels. (Do I sense a little more of that ?theocratic warfare? here?)

Your stand up during the song and suddenly what seems like the whole cong gets afflicted with the JW STARE. Some even literally turn around and STARE as if you were an alien or your body is turned inside out and you're the only one that doesn't notice.
You really want to know how to get a good stare at the Kingdom Hall? Just put up your hand to give a comment in the Watchtower study, and then when you get the microphone, try to incorporate a Scripture citation in your answer, and when you can?t seem to think of the chapter and verse, just pull out an ouija board and look it up on that. Then turn your head a full 360 degrees plus another 180 degrees to face the back and, while something like pea soup is coming up out of your mouth, yell out, ?What the f^@# is everybody looking at??
It seems to work for me, anyway.

Why don't you send her back an email comparing the rates of alleged child molestation in the JWs versus say the Catholic church and tell her the conclusion is that the Kingdom Hall is not the safest place to be as she claims.
Well, this isn?t necessarily true . . . . unless the Kingdom Hall has a basement.

WHY DOES THE WTBS HOARD CASH
by Happy Guy :) inthey must have billions...annual revenue alone was almost a billion last year.
they must have close to 10 billion in assets and a large chunk of that is cash.
if the world is going to end any day that cash is useless.

SAHS
Much of that reported Revenue for the N.Y. WT is cash that has been transferred from WT worldwide. Of the two countries outside of the U.S. that I have seen finacials for, it appears they are transferring the bulk of annual revenue to presumably WT in the U.S. In other words, I suspect that this 951 million U.S. denominated dollars is probably an aggregate of worldwide revenues.
This shows how much of the worldwide revenues are being funnelled into Brooklyn. It seems that the vast majority of this cash flow is not so much from non-profit sales of the literature itself but from donations by publishers?who donate for their own literature as well as any literature that may not get placed, in addition to regular donations for the local Kingdom Hall . . . as well as the ?worldwide work.? So, the WT ends up receiving funds for the literature from basically three angles: from the householder in the territory who buys it, from the publisher who adds his/her donation for his/her own monthly order of literature items, and from all congregation members who donate to the local Kingdom Hall and the ?worldwide work.?
Multiply this procedure for all the congregations around the globe, and it doesn?t take long for that grand total to get up there. You can certainly see how it is in the WT?s best interests to keep expanding into as many countries as possible to increase their ?customer base.? Actually, it?s kind of like a ?pyramid scheme? when you think about it (no pun intended?as in the number of steps down into the Great ?Pyramid? of Gizeh used by Charles Russell to calculate the years until Armageddon).
All these funds, of course, get funnelled into the central location of Brooklyn?kind of like how in outer space gasses, dust, asteroids, planets, and even stars get sucked into a black hole, thereby adding to the black hole?s mass and thus increasing its gravitational power.
The ?theocratic warfare? continues.
