Alec Baldwin Shot a Woman Dead
by Simon inso alec baldwin shot a woman dead on set and seriously injured another man.. what do we put this down as?
a tragic accident?
maybe ... except that implies no one was to blame.. the more you find out, the more it seems that this was due to negligence and lack of attention to safety.

They are doing a podcast on the Islamic influence on the movie Dune - yes, I was gonna mention this in the OP but I forgot all about it.
I was gonna say this: there are some names in Dune which are clearly influenced by Arabic.
The main character, Paul Atreides, is also called 'Mu'adib'. This sounds like an Arabic word.
Also, the planet with the spice is called Arrakiss. And this name sounds like the British English pronunciation of Iraq, with '-iss' added onto the end.

Would it be correct to equate Faith and belief in any God with superstitious belief ? I believe so.
by smiddy3 intheir are millions of peoples all around the world who believe in one god or another christian and non christian.. all of them pray to their gods for this, that, and the other.
by far the majority never hear god answer them audibly ,however most assume he answers their prayers or not , by what transcribes next in their lives.. you pray for what is right according to god and he answers your prayers ,otherwise your prayers are not answered .. those few who who do claim to hear the voice of god audibly are usually found to have mental problems ,either physical or emotional.. if you do good you will be rewarded either now or in the hereafter , if you do bad you will feel the wrath of god and his judgments.
i equate this with superstitious beliefs ,what do you think ?.

Yes, Smiddy, I agree with you.
But there must have been some value in religious behaviour, otherwise natural selection would have deleted it.
It's quite a fascinating topic.
I wonder if there are any fossilised religious sites, made by early Homo sapiens or other human species?

Isn't Canada Great, even close to a Spiritual Paradise?
by Disillusioned JW ina moment ago i clicked onto the link at https://bigglobaltravel.com/cities/funny-pictures-canada-yh/?utm_campaign=canada%20pictures%20shira1606%20dup0109%20msn%20edg%20en%20-%20desktop%20usa%20ya&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=msn_us&utm_content=msn.com&psl=g_61cd4e&network_code=cm which shows slides of canada.
viewing those slides (in combination with the other things i have seen and heard about canada) made me feel that maybe canada is about as close as one can get in the western world to a nation which is now a spiritual paradise, much like a new peaceful order now.
imagine that the usa would never have had a civil war.

@mickbobcat - at least she's doing something that normal teenage girls do.
She's singing and dancing. Nothing wrong with this.
I just hope she quickly discovers sex and d*ck-sucking, then she might forget all about this net zero carbon shit.

Yes, it's related to the World Cup in Qatar next year.
A recent UN report has detailed some serious abuse of migrant workers by Qatari authorities - we're talking some serious issues here:
- a caste system with migrant workers treated differently on the basis of ethnicity
- non-payment of wages
- migrants being worked to death in the heat
- migrant deaths not properly investigated, Qatari authorities tend to write 'died of natural causes' and send the coffins home to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya or wherever.
There are some sportspeople and journalists speaking out about this and other issues in Qatar. Some Norway footballers recently spoke out against Qatar's (mis-)treatment of LGBT people. And a Finnish footballer called Tim Sparv has recently spoken out about the mistreatment of migrant workers. To these people must go a good deal of respect. They are speaking out when it's convenient to do so and when it's inconvenient.
But the England manager (Gareth Southgate), England captain (Harry Kane), other England players (e.g. Marcus Rashford) and British sports pundits (Gary Lineker, Ian Wright, Rio Ferdinand) are different. They want to have their cake and eat it.
Y'see, these people are very vocal about speaking out on issues in the UK - racism, discrimination, no free school meals for poor kids, etc. On any and all of these issues their lips don't stop flapping.
But they have been totally silent on the issue of migrant mistreatment in Qatar. It seems we're gonna have a situation next year where not one word will be spoken on this issue, from trendy celebs who usually rush to weigh in on social issues in the UK or US.
Weird, huh .....

Happiness Is A Warm Gun
She's not a girl who misses much
Do do do do do do, oh yeah
She's well-acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicolored mirrors
On his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy
Working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National TrustI need a fix 'cause I'm going down
Down to the bits that I left uptown
I need a fix 'cause I'm going downMother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gunHappiness is a warm gun (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm gun, momma (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)When I hold you in my arms (ooh, oh, yeah)
And I feel my finger on your trigger (ooh, oh, yeah)
I know nobody can do me no harm (ooh, oh, yeah)
BecauseHappiness is a warm gun, yes it is (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm, yes it is, gun (happiness, bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Well, don't you know that happiness is a warm gun momma?

The Beatles: I Am The Walrus
I am he as you are he as you are me
And we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
See how they fly
I'm cryingSitting on a corn flake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you've been a naughty boy
You let your face grow longI am the egg man
They are the egg men
I am the walrus
Goo goo g'joobMister City policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky, see how they run
I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm cryingYellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers downI am the egg man
They are the egg men
I am the walrus
Goo goo g'joobSitting in an English garden
Waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come you get a tan
From standing in the English rainI am the egg man (now good sir)
They are the egg men (a poor man, made tame to fortune's blows)
I am the walrus
Goo goo g'joob, goo goo goo g'joob (good pity)Expert, texpert choking smokers
Don't you think the joker laughs at you (ho ho ho, hee hee hee, hah hah hah)

So, I saw Dune (1984) yesterday. I knew it wasn't gonna be great, but deary me.
I'm not gonna lie - this film is not good, in fact it's laughably bad in places.
First, I'd like to know the thought process that went behind choosing David Lynch to write/direct. Lynch is a talented guy but he makes weird little films which aren't to everyone's taste. For a potential sci-fi block-buster like Dune, you need someone who will make a great spectacle which will have broad appeal. And Dune fails, in every way possible. The special effects are bad, the action scenes didn't get me excited, the writing, the dialogue the acting ... I could go on and on.
I gotta say, I like David Lynch. The Elephant Man (1980) is a masterpiece, Mulholland Drive (2001) is very good, The Straight Story (1999) isn't often mentioned but is very good, Eraserhead (1977) is interesting, so is Blue Velvet (1986).
But Dune was a total misfire. I haven't read the novel, so I don't know how much crap in the film was also in the book. I don't know how much control Lynch had over the film, maybe the producers or film company grabbed creative control from him.
Thoughts?

Superman and Captain America
by punkofnice ini see that marvel are introducing a gay captain america as dc announce the son of superman is bi-sexual.. whereas i don't give a hoot about a person's use of their genitalia as long as it is consensual and not with kids, i'm finding all this 'inclusivity' becoming a bit boring.. are dc and marvel just virtue signalling in the hopes of selling comics and not being set on fire by the antifa frauds?

I don't mind gay super heroes, but turning existing super heroes into gay super heroes doesn't work - exactly. Why can't they create a brand new super hero who is gay?
Suddenly seeing Superman french kiss a nerdy Japanese guy with purple hair is a bit jarring, to say the least.
Let's give these creators the benefit of the doubt: they are concerned with homophobic bullying in schools and elsewhere and want to make society more tolerant.
Ok, but would ramming sexuality down people's throats achieve this? I mean, before I saw this image I didn't think of where Superman likes to put his penis, if he even had one.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with creating characters who are gay. Here's a film which does this, but without ramming any agenda down people's throats because it's a sci-fi action film: Aliens (1986). At the beginning we see Vasquez refer to Ripley, saying que bonita! (very beautiful!). But that's all it is. We don't see her make a pass at Ripley or kiss her or whatever. Because the film's a sci-fi action flick.
We also hear the space marines talk about getting 'some Arcturian poontang' and saying it doesn't matter if you get a male, it's all good. Again, this is peripheral to the plot and doesn't go anywhere, it's just banter.
Compare the above with Disney Star Wars and their decision to include a Lesbian kiss at the end of The Rise Of Skywalker (2019). This had nothing to do with the plot, and was even deleted in Middle Eastern cinemas, because Disney cares more about Arab money than it does about Arab homophobia.
So, is it a good idea to make a super hero gay? The jury's still out on this, I think. If the idea behind that decision is to make gay people a normal part of society, then wouldn't it be better to make a film with gay characters who are just ordinary people. Y'know, like gay people in real life? lol.
And couple more questions ...
There are several superheroes who have been made gay or bisexual. Where are the gay/bisexual villains?
If queer sexuality is associated with heroism but not villainy, does this mean that the whole damn thing is just LGBT propaganda?
