Jaws is a great movie.
I never tire of watching it.
I'm still surprised it had a PG-13 certificate in theatres and is rated 12 here in the UK (viewers must be aged 12 or older to legally view the movie).
The following scene, featuring the shark attacking and devouring Quint, is horrific (and well done).

In my opinion, Jaws should be an R-rated movie.

Black people attacking whites in the US
by JoenB75 ini see a lot of shocking videos on social media about gangs of blacks attacking white people.
how big is the problem really and what is done about it?.

What feminists have said rape by immigrants is a necessary cost?! - in Germany a few years back, there were mass sexual assaults by immigrant gangs on ethnically-German women in towns and cities across Germany.
From what I remember, German feminists and other progressives tried to silence news of sexual assaults as they were coming through.
I can't remember everything about these incidences (it was a few years ago) but they are worth revisiting.
You get to see white western feminists' attitudes to immigrant brown men sexually assaulting white German women.
Then there was this video produced by Finnish authorities after a spate of sexual assaults by immigrants on Finnish women ...

Have Finnish people always responded to a rape crisis by music & dance? Lol

WE ARE ALL AFRICAN! - er, not sure about this.
Homo sapiens evolved in Africa, so my ancestors were African, if you go back tens of thousands of years.
But, different races of humans have evolved since then, largely in isolation.
I'm European. I live in England, a northern European country and natural home for people like me. Northern Europeans evolved in Europe.
Chinese people evolved in Asia.
Sub-Saharan Africans evolved in sub-Saharan Africa.
Some whites live in Australia, America and Africa because of European technology - ocean-going ships, etc.
Some black people live in the Caribbean and North America, also due to European technology - ocean-going ships, etc. It's not nice to say but David Starkey was correct: if it wasn't for slavery, there'd be no blacks in the Americas.
The races do differ in some aspects, e.g. Chinese people cannot digest milk because as adults, they don't produce the enzyme lactase. Other people - whites, blacks, Arabs, Jews - can and do drink milk.
It's not being intellectually honest to insist everyone alive to day are Africans.

What Fun Things Have You Been Doing While In Lock-Down?
by Simon inso we've all been locked down and there's only so much netflix / prime / disney / hbo you can watch and computer games you can play.
what has everyone been doing to pass the time?.
when you're completely stuck inside and working from home it can get a bit boring staring at the same walls all day and then in the evening as well.

I don't have internet access at home so when the public libraries closed I had to stop social media, FB, this forum, etc.
I did manage to save up enough money to buy myself a DVD player, so I've spent a lot of lockdown watching my collection of movies. (I have 110 films and I've seen 70 so far!).
I've also done some reading - I've read Salem's Lot, The Firm, The Whistler, Gray Mountain.
One thing I've managed to do is go out walking every day - whether that's sunbathing on a park bench or longer walking. I have to get out my flat, I'd have gone mad staying indoors all the time.

Meet George Floyd
by cofty inhis murder was a crime and justice must be done, but it's sobering to learn more about the man who is being lionised by millions.
thanks as always to the courageous candace owens.. ....

Good thread, Cofty.
First, the killing of GF was completely unacceptable, and the offending officers are rightly facing serious charges.
I, too, have issues with BLM.
TBH, I don't think they actually care about black lives ... because they only protest and lose their shit when the attacker is white. Black-on-black killings are sky-high in the US (and in the UK, too, I think) but BLM don't say a word.
BLM talk about reparations for slavery (something that happened centuries ago in the US and UK) but have nothing to say of modern slavery - in Mauritania, slavery was abolished only in 2007. Mauritanian society is stratified based on race, with the lighter-skinned Arabs and Berbers at the top and sub-Saharan blacks at the bottom of society, domestic servitude, etc. There are black Mauritanians alive today who are former slaves.
There are slave markets in Libya this past few years. Some sub-Saharan Africans are allowed to travel to Europe, providing they pay the people smugglers a price; others are sold into slavery.
Again, BLM have nothing to say about these matters.
It's far easier to topple some statue of some long-dead whitey who profited from the transatlantic slave trade.
Well done to Candace Owens for speaking out.
That woman is a marvel.

The real Dracula?
by LoveUniHateExams ini'm a bit of a horror fan - i love horror movies and the novel dracula by bram stoker is a pretty good read - especially the first four chapters, with jonathan harker being in dracula's castle.. i've heard before that stoker based count dracula on a 15th century voivod (prince) of wallachia who went down in history as vlad the impaler - apparently, he was extremely barbaric and cruel, as his name suggests.. vlad's father was also called vlad.
daddy vlad was apparently part of an order of crusader knights, the order of the dragon.
this order was formed to protect christian europe against muslim ottomans/turks.

I liked the first and third episodes (no 1 was in Dracula's castle and no 3 was in the present day).
I thought the middle episode, with Dracula on board the Demeter, was a little weak.
But, generally speaking, the series was good.

Are You Afraid To Publicity Express Your Opinion?
by minimus inare you reticent to express your opinion when it comes to religion or politics?.
when we were jws , we had to be so careful that we didn’t stumble anyone.
are you comfortable saying that you don’t agree with someone or something even if it appears you are in the minority?

I'm not afraid to express my opinion on this forum or even on facebook.
The worst I've had is someone on FB doxing me and contacting my old uni because I said that cis women and trans women should talk out their differences re trans-women (biological males) using the ladies' toilets.
However, I would be careful about publically expressing my opinions face-to-face, out in the street.

The best character is the woman that plays Van Helsing - yes, she's good.
I bought the dvd 2 weeks ago.
I also thought Claes Bang was good as Dracula.
I liked the Castle set, too.
It was pretty good over three episodes.

Meet the greatest heavyweight champ of all time
by LoveUniHateExams inand no, it wasn't muhammad ali.. by most objective measures, the greatest heavyweight champ of all time was a guy called joe louis.. he reigned for nearly twelve consecutive years (june 1937 - march 1949) and made a record 25 successful consecutive title defences.
since 1949, every heavyweight champ has tried to break or even match this record.
all have failed.

After 3 and a half years of inactivity, Ali was hardly “prime” against Frazier - yeah, I've heard this lots of times.
Before Frazier, Ali had two tune-up fights against top contenders who had similar styles as Joe - Jerry Quarry and Oscar Bonavena. Ali beat both, and had hundreds of rounds sparring in the gym. His weight for Joe was a trim and ready 215 lbs. Ali fought Joe in March 1971 and had recently turned 29 in January 1971.
No excuses - Ali was as good as he could be, but lost.
