No TARPS Allowed (or large umbrellas).
by problemaddict inmaybe this was already covered here.
i've been absent a bit more than usual.. at qualcomm stadium, home of the chargers and the "special arrangement" with san diego which means they use the venue for free, you are not allowed to bring a tarp in the 80 degree sunshine, nor a large umbrella.. mercifully however, you may bring a small one person umbrella you can hold or perhaps vice to the seat, but if someone asks you to take it down, you are to oblige.
san diego is freaking out over this i can assure you.

Dodgers Stadium was AWEFUL in the heat. (There was also the stupid parking lot that took forever to get out of, so you would swelter in your car) We didn't have any cover for several years. But, when we finally did, we were nice enough to share with people...
I remember they would have everyone take them down during the dramas... I'm ridiculously pale... I blister in seconds. My regular everyday sunscreen is SPF 70... Even with that I burn and am prone to heat sickness. It was aweful. I was so ridiculously happy when they stopped going to Dodgers and went to Long Beach Convention Center. Air conditioning...

Just as a side note...
TO GENERAL ALEXANDER SMYTH MONTICELLO
January 17 1825
DEAR SIR,
I have duly received four proof sheets of your explanation of the Apocalypse with your letters of December 29th and January 8th; in the last of which you request that so soon as I shall be of opinion that the explanation you have given is correct I would express it in a letter to you. From this you must be so good as to excuse me because I make it an invariable rule to decline ever giving opinions on new publications in any case whatever. No man on earth has less taste or talent for criticism than myself and least and last of all should I undertake to criticise works on the Apocalypse. It is between fifty and sixty years since I read it and I then considered it as merely the ravings of a maniac no more worthy nor capable of explanation than the incoherences of our own nightly dreams. I was therefore well pleased to see in your first proof sheet that it was said to be not the production of St John but of Cerinthus a century after the death of that apostle. Yet the change of the author's name does not lessen the extravagances of the composition and come they from whomsoever they may I cannot so far respect them as to consider them as an allegorical narrative of events past or subsequent. There is not coherence enough in them to countenance any suite of rational ideas. You will judge therefore from this how impossible I think it that either your explanation or that of any man in the heavens above or on the earth beneath can be a correct one. What has no meaning admits no explanation and pardon me if I say with the candor of friendship that I think your time too valuable and your understanding of too high an order to be wasted on these paralogisms. You will perceive I hope also that I do not consider them as revelations of the Supreme Being whom I would not so far blaspheme as to impute to Him a pretension of revelation couched at the same time in terms which He would know were never to be understood by those to whom they were addressed. In the candor of these observations I hope you will see proofs of the confidence esteem and which I entertain for you.

Just ordered this
by dynamiterose77 ini just ordered this book.
(ok... it's not linking, it's called "i'm perfect, you're doomed: tales from a jehovah's witness upbringing" by kyria abrahams).
i came across it when trying to explain to a coworker about the end of the world images that would be in watchtowers when i was growing up and why they gave me horrible nightmares.

From the description:
I'm Perfect, You're Doomed is the story of Kyria Abrahams's coming-of-age as a Jehovah's Witness -- a doorbell-ringing "Pioneer of the Lord." Her childhood was haunted by the knowledge that her neighbors and schoolmates were doomed to die in an imminent fiery apocalypse; that Smurfs were evil; that just about anything you could buy at a yard sale was infested by demons; and that Ouija boards -- even if they were manufactured by Parker Brothers -- were portals to hell. Never mind how popular you are when you hand out the Watchtower instead of candy at Halloween.
When Abrahams turned eighteen, things got even stranger. That's when she found herself married to a man she didn't love, with adultery her only way out. "Disfellowshipped" and exiled from the only world she'd ever known, Abrahams realized that the only people who could save her were the very sinners she had prayed would be smitten by God's wrath.
Raucously funny, deeply unsettling, and written with scorching wit and deep compassion, I'm Perfect, You're Doomed explores the ironic absurdity of growing up believing that nothing matters because everything's about to be destroyed. -

I came across it when trying to explain to a coworker about the end of the world images that would be in watchtowers when I was growing up and why they gave me horrible nightmares. I did an image search and found some disturbing ones and sent them to her. Then, hidden in the images was one of this book. It looked like something I imagined as a kid so I looked into it.
It has a lot of good reviews, a few not so good... but I thought I'd go ahead and see for myself.
Has anyone read it?

Interesting read about "Visions" and the brain
by dynamiterose77 inyears and years ago, i had read something in a book that clinically examined joan of arc and gave a hypothesis regarding her visions, using her own descriptions of the episodes and using what she experienced as symptoms.
i can't remember if they had said it was epilepsy or a brain tumor.. i saw this article today and it got me thinking again.
i also started thinking about how in the past, gb has talked about visions/divine inspiration/whatever... russell even endorsed a woman's book where she supposedly spoke to a "fallen angel".. kinda made me wonder....

A Mansion for the Resurrected, in Kensington
by dynamiterose77 ini was roving around the internet looking for articles about a completely different topic, when i came across this one.. i found it very interesting.. here's a quote.. "in a 1920 book called "millions now living will never die" he'd predicted that biblical leaders like abraham, isaac and jacob would be resurrected in 1925 and become "the visible, legal representatives of the new order of things on earth.".
while this didn't occur, rutherford still chose to be prepared for the return of the patriarchs.
he moved into the newly built house in kensington around 1930, calling it beth sarim (house of the princes).

"In a 1920 book called "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" he'd predicted that biblical leaders like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be resurrected in 1925 and become "the visible, legal representatives of the new order of things on earth."
While this didn't occur, Rutherford still chose to be prepared for the return of the patriarchs. He moved into the newly built house in Kensington around 1930, calling it Beth Sarim (House of the Princes). He promptly received gently mocking news coverage after deeding it to King David, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Samuel and others.
Rutherford "pictured the arrival of the biblical delegation, perhaps in frock coats, high hats, canes and spats," The San Diego Sun reported, although the distinguished men of the Bible wouldn't be able to just waltz in like they owned the place. A delegation would have to approve the credentials of the ancient leaders before they'd be able to move in."
All in all it's an interesting read. Also there are a lot more articles about JWs in the group information archives.
