I would have a very difficult time praying to a holy ghost.

Pray to Jesus to God or Both? (Not Just Yet Another Trinity Thread...)
by adelmaal ini just read another post that touched upon praying directly to jesus and it reminded me of the other day at church.
i don't know if it's just my jw roots or what but one of the men who said the prayer in church prayed directly to jesus.
he kept using jesus' name in prayer speaking directly to him on our behalf, he brought out that no other name is higher than that of jesus and when he closed he did so in the name of jesus.

Blondie - you mentioned the meeting being sandwiched between two WT study articles on raising children. Did you know that the June 15 WT has two very similar study articles?

Never have done that before, but wonder if there is any demand since they are not all that old. Actually, I do have some older ones, just can't remember which ones are duplicates right now.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 5-8-05 WT Study (April 1, 2005 issue)
by blondie inparagraph 1
paragraph 2
(1 john 3:14, 18) parents, you do well to imitate jesus' love and patience, never giving up in your efforts to train your children.. children fail to respond to your counsel.

Have you seen the 6-15-05 WT? Two more study articles about "Parents, Provide for the Needs of Your Family" and "Young People, Praise, Jehovah!" I looked at it today during the WT study and wondered why so soon. Must REALLY be having problems losing the children. It mentioned how "economic hardships are common worldwide, as are layoffs, unemployment rates, and a rising cost of living. What can help a provider to perservere in the face of such challenges?" Then it never really answered the question. They mention how, "Unlike many of their coworkers, Christian providers see even the most menial of jobs as being dignified and important, a means of pleasing Jehovah God." Then it talks about how "birds fly to and fro incessantly in their search for food. Even when near exhaustion, they drop the food into the gaping beaks of their hatchlings." Then it compares it with Christian parents who rise early to work at exhausting or tedious jobs. But we're not supposed to get an education--or much of one.

is it ilegal to DF someone for voting?
by Pleasuredome ini was wondering, does anyone here know if there are any countries or states that would make it ilegal for a religious group to ex-communicate someone for voting or voting for a particular party?

We had the same talk from the CO. He referred back to the 1950 WT article about being able to go to the polls (if required by law) but not actually voting. Then he said basically the same thing, some people thought from the 1999 article that it was now OK. He said, "The Society has NOT changed their stance, brothers. Then he went on to make an exception, if your employer required it, then you should talk to the elders to see if it was OK. You know what they'd say.
I then looked up an article I remembered about the brothers in Cameroon in the early 1970's who suffered intense persecution because they refused to even go to the polls when it was required by the authorities. It was OK to go to the polls in 1950, not in 1972, but OK under some circumstances in 1999. Seems like double talk.

What age were you baptised? Do you regret it?
by doodle-v ini would have gotten baptised at the first "special assembly day" but i got sick just a few days before.
so i got baptised at the d.c.that same year instead.
i regret it, but at the time i thought i was doing the right thing, i sincerely believed i was dedicating my life to serving god.

BTW, when I was baptized in the name of Jehovah and Jesus Christ. That was long before 1985 when the wording in the baptismal questions changed. I never felt I was baptized into an organization. Nevertheless, I followed the edicts of the organization to the letter. I've been fading since 1998. Still have a couple of relatives that I don't want to upset.

I was 14. My dedication was to Jehovah and Christ Jesus. I did not regret it for many years. I actually believed it was the truth for many years. It was a long, slow, painful process to realize that Jehovah really doesn't have an earthly organization. About 12 years ago my husband and I almost got a divorce because he had seen the truth about the truth for several years, and I wouldn't listen. But didn't fully come to my senses until I saw that the organization didn't care a hoot about my elderly parents who desperately needed assistance when my mother got sick. They were content to know that they had a daughter (myself) who had to shoulder the whole responsibility of caring for them--this despite the fact that I have to work full time (more than full time to keep the bills paid--after all I was denied a college education).

Does anyone here remember sitting through the WT studies in 1966 about "Why are You Looking Forward to 1975?" I was there. I don't remember anyone arguing with the reasoning in that article.

My husband was counselled for not wearing a white shirt and tie. He was doing volunteer work at the assembly back when we still ran our own cafeterias. It was at the same assembly that the district overseer suddenly appeared with a green shirt. Up until then, for a period of time, the circuit overseer had been refusing to appoint any brother to a servant's position who wore anything other than a white shirt.
