Please see these links. Here is a really decent analysis of the JW disfellowshipping thing:

Within this thread is some great insight into the historical background of Paul's "disfellowship" statements (mostly toward the end of the thread). It was a real eye-opener.

Tell your husband to take the higher road as examplified by Jesus ... to love one another .... very simple.

WW - sorry to hear of this incident.

It is so common an experience among witnesses, but to those from the 'outside' like yourself it must really seem odd. To me it just seems cruel, now that I have gained freedom from the witness cult and culture.

A three hour marathon JC seems a litte ridiculous, esp. since they generally go into these JC's with a clear idea of the outcome before they start. The 'one week' deal is most likely the time in which she has to 'appeal'. Someone may have clarified that, but I didn't see it in the thread. Very few are 'overturned' - the only basis for overturning them usually is proceedural errors, or perhaps conflict of interest of one member of the JC. Rarely on the basis of a bad judgment by the JC [although I have seen that done once].

I would park hubby squarely on the porch, with changed locks, till he gets his head out of his ass on this one. Of course he will then be told by the elders that he is being 'persecuted' for upholding the will of Jehovah, and to bear up and prove faithfull. Hard telling what he will do at that point.

Good Luck to your Step-daughter. Tell her that some on this forum are pulling for her.

The verses, frequently quoted by JW’s, suggest that being accepted by God is exclusive. That is, only a few will be found worthy. I was planning to prepare the flip side, God’s mercy, and His love for all.

I've kept your texts thanks. Can I add to your theme of inclusiveness:

1 Cor 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive". (Adam was not a historical individual but this just describes human nature)

Romans 5:18 "just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life to all men.

The letter to the Hebrews ch 11, lists examples of faith, none of whom are Christian,

John's gospel seaks of "the true light that gives light to everyman."

2 Peter 3:9 "is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

    My JC lasted 7 hours...and I didn't even do anything...7pm to 2 am...

I had them sh*tting their pants...

They finally said... let's drop the whole matter...I said NO WAY...if you file a false police report they don't just "drop the matter"...
I went for the jugular...and they protected their own. From the local body to the CO and all the up to Brooklyn the cover up was complete...

    Now I'm out...for NOTHING...

    Am I lucky or what?

u/d (of the got out with my family (the few, the proud) ...class)

Worldlywife asked about scriptures emphasising love rather than judgement.

In some parts of the Bible God appears to be vindictive, in other parts he appears as loving and merciful. What is the true nature of God, and which example should we follow?

It is the Bible as a whole that gives the meaning to its parts. Does the 'God is Love' overrule the vindictive God? What commandments sum up the law & prophets (OT)?

The 1 week is compulsory and is in the elders manual - in which to think whether to appeal etc
