thanks tink & fbf
I want to ask her out...
tink is a smart lady:
dude ... be so proud of yourself, you are so brave. i am so thankful there are guys willing to take the initiative like that...because i am way too chicken, if i were left to my own devices i would never have a single date ever....
Tink is right on with her comments. I'm thinkin' I'm thankful too... that guys will take the initiative and ask a lady out. 'Cuz I don't ask guys out either. Too chicken, I guess. And I would never have a date either, 'cuz I just don't ask guys out. Now I'm really thinkin' how reeeeeeally glad I am that John took a risk to ask me out. Because when I said yes, and then I went out with him I found out what a really sweet guy he is and how attracted I have become to him. I am falling in love, DanThe Man ...
And it all started with him asking me out for a lunch date.
I have been waiting for days to see the out come of this....So what! She has a girlfriend......You should be proud of yourself for having the guts to ask her out......You should be jumping for joy.....I am too, as many others on the board, are so happy that you took the
right approuch and went for the plunge.....You now have a bit of practise under your belt and the next time it will be easyer for you...Stick to
the same and approuch and do it again ( with a new lady though)...Dan, you are the Man!
Dan The Man !!
thanks Estee & mortons
It's nice to hear the ladies' side of it, that you all really do want us to approach you, which is the opposite of how I tend to think.

i think it's all in the approach itself. stuff like honking your horn at a girl crossing the street or making sexual comments to her as she passes you standing with a bunch of your friends or doing anything that makes her feel as if she is being made a spectacle of is definitely not appreciated. but if someone approaches me in a nice respectful way and doesn't try to act like something they're not, i always appreciate the gesture, and i always make sure to be really nice and thank the person for making an effort even if i'm not single or particularly interested in them....positive reinforcement never hurts, i guess :)
A genuine smile works wonders too.
I have found that being a "figure" attracts attention. Like, being funny with an undercurrent of melancholy, a moody guy with a sentimental streak. Byronic hero, if you will. Being good at something is important, like being a good writer or actor or guitar or spanish. It makes you stand out.
For me, being completely honest is the best way. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does. Like, you have to get drunk and talk about all the deep things in life and ramble on about how your heart was broken in first grade and you've never gotten over it and when it gets to be about midnight, you say "Look, I'm going to go now, because if I stay I'll want to make love to you." If they are having a good time, they won't want you to leave, even if making love is something still taboo in their minds. Show them a good time, and then essentially say, "If you want the good times to continue, we'll have to get the lovemaking underway." Secretly, they want to anyway. It's romantic to be seduced, to be the object of such unquenchable desire that only distance will safeguard her virtue (hee hee!)
If they like you anyway, it's 75/25 that they'll relent and let the lovemaking commence. If they don't like you, well, you don't want to waste anymore time anyway. right?
Once you've had the love, and performed well (practice makes perfect), you want to continue the relationship, yes? That's honorable. Don't do a Don Juan - it will just leave you more alone than you ever dreamed. Take her out to breakfast. Make plans to call her.
When you call her the next day - apologize. It works like a charm. Say that you are SORRY for making her squeal, because you know that being friends is the important thing and you hope you haven't ruined your friendship with her.
"We pursue that which withdraws from us" and so she will pursue you. She has had all day to get the ideas in her head of building a life with you. Believe me, she's picking the colors of the bridesmaids dresses by now, and you think you are getting away? Uh-uh, mister.
(BTW, this is a perfect out for the trampy girls. They tend to want to move on, so they'll just let you go. The nice ones, the ones you really want, won't let you get away at this point.)
True love tends to be spontaneous, you just are comfortable with a person and suddenly, hey, you're drunk and it's midnight and it's time to go home... or it's time to NOT go home.
