Hi guys, long time without paying a visit to this site. Today I returned to check a 'gossip' that is running around in Brazilian exjw forums.

They are stating that is almost certain they will make a big change in their doctrine maybe this year yet in the annual meeting. They say people in Warwick were commenting on this. The bets are on the doctrine of 144k as a literal number.

So, do you guys know anything about this?

    Armageddon is coming ... SOON!

What ever it is, it won’t undo all the damage this cult has done to countless millions of people — adversely harming their lives and destroying so many families.

Haven't heard anything specifically like that though I've always thought that, sooner or later, they will have to revise the 144k doctrine.

Something along the lines of: "For some time, our publications have said that the 144,000 figure is literal. However, after careful consideration was given to the context of Rev 7, it became necessary to adjust our understanding. Does the number of anointed brothers of Christ really need to be exactly 144,000? Not necessarily blah blah blah...."

The “big changes” and “huge announcement” hype was exposed here over a decade ago. I guess people never learn:

The WTS for decades has been creating bullshit to cover over its past bullshit.

This organization has never been about deep theological study, its been about literature proliferation by novice bible theologians running their own publishing house.

The one doctrine they need to revise to keep alive is 1914.

    People are getting impatient.

Each generation of humans, religious or otherwise, likes to believe it is on the cusp of big events. JWs as a high-control end-times religious group personifies this very human tendency to a very intense degree.

Something big is about to be changed and/or announced. Change represents “progress” and feeds the buzz. Of course sometimes there are big events - but that mentality exists throughout all human history. This or that event is the biggest, worst, best, most mementous and so on.

Chuck Russell and after him Rutherford believed fervently they would live to see the end but, as with ordinary humans everywhere, they lived to see their own end while the world continued as if these two very important men (not) had never existed. This speaks to our individual insignificance, rescued only by religious narcissism (“I’m special to live through these special times and to know it while everyone else lives in ignorance”).

The expressed 144,000 stated in the bible is again ancient mythology, believe if you want.

A couple of things the WTS never acknowledged is that this 144,000 were supposedly men who were virgins.

    • Revelation 14:3–5 (ESV)

And they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. For it is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.

Which makes the married GB members today false anointed ones.

I think Fred Franz was the only man who was anointed by his proclamation a virgin or unmarried but he was lying scoundrel in any case so who knows if he was a virgin.

  • Doubter

WT never acknowledged the “virgins” part:

Take a moment and do a shred of research.
