I don't have a problem with people having issues with the government...heck I have issues...but if you continually say you hate where you live and want to leave why in the world would you be suprised or offended if someone offered to give you what you wanted?

The woman I saw interviewed was expressing her sorrow at being vilified in a racist manner, and I thought she was absolutely right in what she said. Her comment just told me that at least in Egypt, the 'person in the street' would treat her as an equal, not as a 'filthy Muslim terrorist' just because she is of the Arab race.

The show I saw the women had no actual events of racism. She just felt people were staring at her at a mall. Basically her definition of racism was 'white people make me feel creepy.'.

So I have to ask from the show:

    • How was she vilified?
    • Where things said to her?
    • Was this a common occurence or one act?
    • What happened to the purpertrator?
    • Where the cops called?

Many Muslim's cases of racism are pure fiction, they boil down to arkward feelings or precieved looks. There were some actual cases of people attacking muslims after 9/11 (about 15 and 2 deaths). If it was 1/365th as bad here as the muslims would like people to believe the Muslims would be headed out of here in droves. Bullshit is these peoples middle names.

    jelly,

I do not have a tape of this program, so cannot provide you with details, nor do I care to.

MY experience, as mentioned in the same paragraph you quoted, is that Muslims here in Canada are being persecuted. Did you read the part about the mosque being desecrated? Property was destroyed and there was racist graffiti.

The woman I saw on TV sounded reasonable and did relate personal experiences where she was 'shunned'.

As a DFd person, I understand that people do not have to throw acid in your face for you to feel vilified.

She was obviously sincere and I believed her. This is not court, it is an opinion forum. So you can take my word for it .... or not.

My opinion - you can have compassion for them ... or not. I don't care.

    have a nice day.

    The site is funny.

As noted...if you don't like it, leave. No one is forcing you to stay. The site even offers you a return ticket after one year. How benign is that?!

Please note that they *volunteers* are all young. Young and stupid.

Let the young man who wants to go to N. Korea go. Let him see what it is like in a true *democracy*. HaHa.

I looked at the site, in fact I stole one of their graphics for my desk top, the one of the eagle head with the flag. My impression of the site owners attitude was this.

It is understood that political tensions are running high and that the military action is not agreed upon as necessary by all. Fact is it is happening, American boys as well as those from the UK and other countries are dying for the furthering of human freedoms provided by democracy in a place where a rather vicious dictator was doing harm.

People who do nothing but bitch and moan about the situation, and offer no other alternative than to get rid of Bush, are annoying. I mean, how long does one have to complain about a situation that is out of their control? The site owner was just, in a very sarcastic way, giving an oppurtunity, for those sick of hearing the liberals and their endless complaints, to contribute to the purchase of air fare to give these folks a taste of life where their complaints might not be allowed, where their "right" to complain, might even be considered a crime.

Things are far from perfect in the good ole US of A, but in my opinion, there are very few countries that offer the freedoms and opportunities found in America.

Also, I hardly expect that site to quote the young woman fairly - in any way other that to put their own spin on things.

    Hardly "welcoming" is it?!

I have a pretty good job....but it is far from perfect. If I cried and moaned about how bad it was day and night....and talked about how much I would LOVE to have another job somewhere else...would anyone be suprised if I was eventually escorted to the door and told to feel free to find another place to work??

Personally, I stay and I do the best job I can. I work with what I have and I try to be happy and foster a team spirit in others so we can hopefully work together and make this a better place for all of us.

Seems to me the same concept works for the country you live in, but then again maybe it is to simplistic an approach.
