As Phizzy points out Bible "literalism" as practised by JW org, is a relatively modern interpretation by those who were appalled by the presumptions of critics who would dare question the Bible's truthfulness. At that time to discredit the Bible was the equivalent to re-introducing savagery to polite society.

At the bottom of nearly all the religious discussion on this site is the conflict believers have with wanting to do the right thing but are confronted with a set of 'holy scripture' revealed to be at odds with scientific analysis.

Believers feel they have a choice of beliefs and that on balance belief in God is the best choice, it happens to be unsupported by facts but has the advantage of 'spiritual'rewards. On the other hand there are those who can put emotion aside and and are prepared to look at evidence for what the Bible says, how it was compiled and most importantly why is was enforced for so long.

So we are left with two alternatives: faith in the supernatural, usually bouyed up by like minded believers, or the mature option and humility to recognise the superiority of understanding life as measured and demonstrated by rigourous scientific methods, not the least of which is scepticism.

Belief in God carries no sceptical element!

How can anything be determined without thrashing out all of the facts, evidences and opposing arguments?

Belief is arbitrary and one sided, knowlege only comes from understanding the evidence. The Bible is evidence of the brutal human values once held 2700 to 1600 years ago -- get up to date and enjoy learning to be sceptical of all information.

There is so much evidence around us that God exists! You only need to open your eyes and you will see that everything was made by inteligent life. It's just a different form of life we cannot see or understand. The only evidence is in the Bible. Cloud formation, water cycle in nature, the jet stream, photosynthesis, the laws of physics and the ultimate machine that is human body ( just to name a few). They are all evidence of God's (as we call Him) existence as a living and inteligent Being(Who creates you is your god). Everything is pure science. You cannot assemble randomly the parts of an engine or any other machine and expect to work. You need knowledge, skills and plannig.

As for the second coming of Jesus and the fall of organised religion there is plenty of evidence. Two world wars (The 20th century was the most murderous in recorded history. The period from 1914 to 1945 can be regarded as a single "30 years' war" interrupted only by a pause in the 1920s - between the final withdrawal of the Japanese from the Soviet Far East in 1922 and the attack on Manchuria in 1931. This was followed, almost immediately, by some 40 years of cold war, which conformed to Hobbes's definition of war as consisting "not in battle only or the act of fighting, but in a tract of time wherein the will to contend by battle is sufficiently known". )

And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying. For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

The humankind managed to put together just the wheel along the whole of its history, and as recent as two generations ago people were still ploughing the land with horses and look at us now? All this technology and science thrown at us in such a short time span. And the cultural and educational revolutions?!

There is also the preaching of the Gospel by all protestant denominations.

04 B.C. + 2,520 + 1 (for there being no year zero) = A.D. 1917; and this year was awaited with considerable anticipation of developments favouring the Jews. These hopes were not disappointed, as both the Balfour Declaration, in which the British Government looked with favour on the estab-lishment of a Palestinian national home for the Jews, and the taking of Jerusalem from the Otto-man Turkish desolators by British forces, seemed to pave the way for the formation of a Jewish state.(Of course this was a scam of the devil regarding the "seven times punishment" as it applied to the spiritual Israel. Nothing was random. It all happened in the 20th century when the time was right)

As for the religion it started to fall since the french revolution when people started to question the devine right of the kings and the church to rule. And then at the end of the 19th century begining of 20th century the church lost its executive power. It was separeted from the state, stripped of its land and many other possesions. And from there on its decline never stopped. The percentage of people that claim to have no religion in all christian countries is going up and is going up fast(and will get even faster after the pandemic), especially in the last 10-15 years. American and European churches are empty. The church attendace is at minimum low. People do no want to be associated with religion anymore. ( Just as an example in Ireland one of the most religious countries in the western world when Pope John Paul II visited the country in 1979, 2.5 million attended this event. Fast forward 2018 at the next visit of the Pope in Ireland only 130000 people turned up and most of them from inside the church. Big contrast!) In Europe religion is long forgotten. It is the so called Christian religion that God has a quarrel. Pagan religions never pretended to serve Him. The Pandemic showed clearly that people don't look at the religion to save them anymore as they did in past pandemics. They simply shut it down like something unnecessarily.

Who made this intelligent life that we cannot see or understand?

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

I believe our brain is not designed or capable to comprehend the concept of being eternal.

If Jesus created the universe and the planet like JW believe he would have certainly known that two homo sapiens called "Adam and Eve" was likely a story. Even if he perhaps knew this was the case, he could probably not tell the truth about the real age of human race but only speak in parables, because they would have thought he was a charlatan or spoke halftruths or even that he was a blatant liar. He would have not destroyed the Jewish religion and brought more science to the world, but would have been stoned earlier.

The only evidence is in the Bible.

Really ? simple written words by men who lived thousands of years ago, who had to suffer and endure of the ignorance of the world in which they lived ?

The written words in the bible is factual evidence to that inherent ignorance.

Just a thought to ponder upon GB the earth has gone through some dramatic changes in climate in which no organisms (us) could live and hit many times by huge meteorites, one so huge it wiped out just about all living things on the planet.

The question one has to reflectively contemplate, does that sound like an intelligent creator ?

We all have the freedom to make sense of the information and facts around us. Nobody should force any ideology on others, although we are exposed to many througout our lifetime. Discussions are helpful if they are constructive but each individual should to make own decission.

GodBeliever, come on, there is no evidence that god exists is there?

The presence of the cosmos has no tangible or provable connection with the God of the BIble has it? There is nothing in the Bible which demonstrates wisdom beyond its time -- which truly would have been a demonstration of divine power -- instead the Bible is misogynistic, homophobic, racist, vengeful, threatening and slavish but promising deliverence from God's enemies. It is merely human wisdom -- all too human.

The Bible is a compilation of mainly fictional texts collected towards the end of the Roman Empire and officially declared sacred for the purpose of controlling the citizens.

There is no evidence that even one spirit being exists and thank goodness too, as this means we can all be ourselves and we need not fear the nightmare scenario of alien forces dominating our existence. Instead we enjoy free will and we should use it for our own happiness and to help others experience this freedom.

I chose to believe in God once as a young child, it was a bad choice. There was no evidence for me to believe in God and doing so led me to becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses which put a heavy clamp on my mind and education.

When the penny dropped, I realised from the Bible's description of his activities that god is entirely a human construct, it was a release from a tyranny. The ultimate exemplar of faith is found in the Bible with God's friend Abraham who was prepared to sacrifice his only son for God. This paradigm of faith is totally disgusting. The God of the Bible bathes in human blood! Who would want anything to do with such ugly inhuman notions of slavish obedience. Wake up! this was never right-- but we have moved on.

Belief in God is a resignation from being responsible moral individuals. Giving up our freewill to the partisan sect which we have chosen as the most likely to have the best doctrines. God and sin only exist in the abstract to lead the gullible away from an honest and objective evaluation of our marvellous existence on planet earth.
