New Light on the 144,000?

Someone on Facebook is claiming to have reliable information that the GB is about to announce new light on the 144,000 -- that it's symbolic, not literal.

One person suggested that they will retain the two-class teaching and just change the meaning of 144,000. His idea was that the change would avoid three problems with the current teaching:

    1. Embarrassment over more and more partakers at the Memorial when the number should be getting less and less.

    2. Embarrassment over 12 symbolic 12,000s somehow equaling a literal 144,000.

    3. Solving the problem of running out of "anointed" ones who are old enough to be on the GB.

    Thoughts?

ding, that would be quite a change considering all the harangueing they have done about this being a literal number. It would probably explain the increase in those partaking but would create more problems But then starting a few years before 1935, the WTS was gradually preparing Bible Students/jws to accept the concept of the great multitude (now crowd) being earthly and without number. The WTS also found it hard at first to consider the great crowd as being jws, calling the two groups, Jehovah's witnesses and their associates or companions.

If they can change from a generation being 70-80 years to an overlapping generation while keeping a straight face, this is child’s play for change.

Nothing surprises me because of their being backed against a wall.

But I honestly expect that they will just cease to talk about the 144K, saying the number is full and continue to belittle the fakers and then they will open up the Governing Body to "helpers."

No matter which way they go, some will balk at it, some will leave over it, some will just say "Whatever!"

It’ll be just like “Babylon The Great Has Fallen”..... no talk about it and it will go away.

      OnTheWayOut ...

The smart money has the majority being the "some will just say "Whatever!"

Then in a few years, there will be those who will look at you funny and say that it is the way it always was.

About time if its factual. Solves the problem of claiming that less than 144,000 faithful Christian's ever existed before the 20th century. Why even in one of their own mags, they admit that there were 144,000 martyrs in one province of Egypt alone during the Roman persecutions.

The other sheep remember only began to be called after 1918.

Something popular JWs always say is we need to preach the truth to people, they live with no hope! We need to share our hope with them and change their life!

Let’s step back and analyze this. Most people of other religions believe they are going to heaven. Why do they believe that? Jesus said anyone that believes and drinks the wine and bread will follow him up to heaven. Seems like a hope to me that one can have confidence in.

On the other hand, JWs believe they will be living as perfect humans on earth. Did Jesus tell them that would be the case? No. Did Jesus say some should not partake during the Lords Evening Meal? No. Is there clear evidence there will be a paradise earth? No.

When you analyze this very simply, it’s clear the world has a hope built on a solid foundation, while JWs have a hope built on sand that is slowly getting washed away. JWs believe imperfect men and ignore Jesus. I don’t know how it can be made any clearer and simpler than that.

It seems to be literal number, since it shows how it is derived.

problem is, that wt believes, that (they), the so-called "anointed" really "sealed" are the only game in town.

What was saved was the whole nation of Israel, all of the twelve tribes, not just the few that were chosen to be the royal and priestly firstborn.

Like the concept of the mighty creation/creator wt's vision is too myopic.

    based on a talking snake.
