  Doesn't the verses just before that indicate that a rape victim doen't need two witnesses? It says if no one is around (to hear her scream) then she is considered innocent and the rapist must die.

  The elder arrangement has been in place since the early 70's. Perhaps the GB will use this RC outcome to eliminate the elder arrangement or make drastic changes. After all, it is becoming a huge liability to the org and less brothers are reaching out. No Elders, No more J.C's. No need for big service dept. at the branches. It's a money saving idea!

  That's another scripture which is talking about an engaged woman having to scream if she's raped. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is talking about a single woman.

  Doesn't Duet suggest there must've been a whole lotta shakin' n' rapin' goin' on back then? You hardly ever read about how the victim feels about anything though or that she should have a say in anything. Maybe why WT has no regard for women too... a patriarchal society.

  Dumplin, The rapist dies only if he rapes a married or engaged woman. If he rapes a non-engaged virgin, he buys her as a sex slave. So maybe he already has several wives and the girl is only 12, yes she now becomes his next wive for the bargain price of a slave, 50 silver shekels. There is no provision for divorce, ever. Pretty sick, eh?
  

  I recall that it's in the case of a married woman, they have to be found by another witness. In the case of engaged or non-engaged virgin, it is the "evidence of virginity" that is taken into account. Earlier in Deut 22:20,21 if there isn't "evidence of virginity" a girl will be stoned.

  And remember if a woman is raped in the city but doesn't scream, she will also be stoned.

  Maybe Angus could ask one of the WT geniuses to explain that.
