Sorry to be the pessimist, but JW.ORG will simply wriggle its way through this little obstacle, and will accept and implement any and all recommendations decided upon by the inquiry.

Of course the simple thing for the Org to do is tell BoE's to report pedophilia accusations straight to the police, and deal with the accused - if necessary - after the police/court have done their job.

The Searcher - I understand your pessimism but I would counsel against defeatism. The Charity Commission needs to know that it is giving tax rfree status to organsiation that systematically engages in psychologically abusive practices against members and ex- members. JWN is testament to that. At least it is worth having a crack even if the chances of success are low. We can get it on the radar and then if the Charity Commission doesn't take it seriously we could try and get some press coverage.

    @ splash:

#14: when the JW pedophile is released from prison, allow him to further browbeat and interrogate his victims while the elders watch. Because, at this point, the victims haven't suffered enough. If the victims do not agree to this continued abuse, then the elders see no reason to DF the rapist and he will be warmly accepted into the congregation once again.

    Victims? What victims?

If you want pessimism, try this on for size. The organization will give the outward appearance of accepting the mandates of the charity commission, while becoming even more secretive and paranoid. The disparity will be justified as "theocratic warfare." There may be a new "flock" book outlining how elders should handle abuse cases that indicates that the elders should immediately go to the police. Then the CO will swing by and tell the elders to cross out "police" and write in "WTS legal department."

    .

Yup, just like when they pulled a fast one on the Bulgarian Govt. over the blood issue.

Bulgaria refused to grant WT legal status as long as they continued to disfellowship people for accepting a blood transfusion. So, WT agreed to discontinue doing that. However, their new rule became any Bulgarian JW who accepts a blood transfusion is considered automatically disassociated- which accomplished the exact same thing as disfellowshipping:shunning. WT got their legal status, lied to the govt. to get it, and retains a shunning policy like always.

    "Theocratic Warfare". Isn't it wonderful?

Since they are not doing the simple thing, doesn't that in itself tell us how prevalent the problem is in the congregations?

The only reason to not do this is for PR reasons. They wouldn't worry about the PR unless it was a widespread problem.

So they choose what's best for "appearances" instead of what's best for the children - instead of doing the right thing. Obviously they are not confident in their God's blessing if they just do the right thing. They are not leaving things in Jehovah's hands.

They put their faith in lawyers instead of their supposed God Jehovah.

2 Tim 3:5 NNWT - " having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power, and from these turn away."

Who is breifing the charity commision lawyers.

This is the crux of the matter?

they must have unsurmountable incriminating evidence to stand a chance of exposing these weasel twisting charlatans.

Precedents have shown WT to cleverly bend the facts.

A satisfactory outcome for the victims is I'm afraid in the hands of skillful and well informed lawyers.

    Who has that responsibility? Us?

Religion is a snare and a racket. It captures your money and makes a lot of noise when you don't give it up!

This just at the point where the pen is hovering over contracts for the Essex new bethel site. This is like a rematch of previous ginormous new Brit HQ plan of some years ago. That was shelved at the last minute because of the French tax grab. The GB got cold feet about spending big money in Europe in case the favourable tax breaks were removed,

Maybe this project will be shelved if the legal protection of charitable status is at risk. Hmmmm!
